My dog has fleas

We just got a new dog. Can someone recommend a good flea preventative? There's all kinds of shit at the pet store and I don't know what to get.
And here is a pic of our new bug-eyed baby, Pierre, rescued from the jaws of death!

are you sure your dog doesnt have hamsters?

that's not a dog that's a baby ewok!
i've used a few different method's and depending on the dog prefer different methods. my older husky was usually good at taking a pill but the younger one refused a collar and a pill and needed a dip a few times a year.

Don't waste your money on the flea preventatives at the pet store. Get prescription stuff like Frontline Plus from a vet.

Get something from your dogs veterinarian. If your dog is purebred, which from pic looks like it might be, they are a lil more finicky on what kind of treatments you can use on them, ( allergic reactions etc ) .
The stuff that you can get from the vet will be the best thing to use for your dog. Frontline is what I use for my Minature Pinscher and it doesnt bother her at all, just a drop on your dogs neck and they are protected for a month if not more. Anyways I think its around the woods of 23 dollars for a 3 month supply, but maybe more where you are. Hope this helps

Here is a link for Frontline if you want to read up on it

Yep, Frontline Plus is the way to go. I have a longhair dachsund so the fur is always in contact with the grass(well, once the snow's finally melted anyway). I've heard that some of the stuff in stores can cause a bad rash at point of contact.
Friggen cute as hell

Frontline Plus for sure. There's nothing better, and it beats the hell out of all the medicines, foggers, shampoos, collars and bullshit that's sold at the store.

Frontline Plus, it was said earlier. I use it on two dogs and two cats. The stuff works amazing. Not a single flea, or tick. Just put it on every few months as it says and you will not have an issue.

Thanks guys. That was easy. Its too bad he's already been fully vetted recently that now I have to take him in just for the flea stuff. Maybe I'll get it online...

If you get Frontline, make sure it is Frontline Plus. Plus kills flea eggs, normal Frontline just kills the adults.

It's a good thing your opinion weighs less than a rat, then!

There is a pill that you can get from the vet that will immediately kill all fleas/ticks on your dog. It's wonderful. After that, I'd put him on Frontline as a preventative measure. (I believe that all Frontline does is prevent female fleas from reproducing.)

Once you get the initial batch of whatever from your vet, you can get it MUCH cheaper online.
p.s. You need to shave that rat for less drag when it's punted

I think the pill from the vet is called Sentinel.

First off... get him a hair cut and trim! It wont matter how much frontline you put on that beast, that much hair is gonna absorb all the juice! Plus fleas love hair and roots, the less hair on your pet the less space they have to hide from the frontline.
Eventually it will kill them all though, as it absorbs into the skin and covers the whole dog for 3 months again fleas, however if TICKS are also a problem in your area, the less hair is the better and you will need to frontline him once a month to stop ticks.

We think he was abused by prior owners (he was found in a shelter, so we don't know much about his previous life) because he gets very angry if he sees scissors coming toward him. It will take some time and work to train him to trust us, but for now, full grooming is out of the question. Besides, he is a Pekingese and supposed to have long hair.
Otherwise, he is a total sweetie and very playful

You can always take the flea collar off your neck and put it around the dogs, this wont help your flea problem but it will protect the dog.

Of course you two were, you combined have less intelligence than the dog.
Frontline Plus is great, we used that when we adopted an abused, long-haired cat we found outside. Cleared her up pretty quickly. And on a side note, we know she was abused and she is also scared to death of scissors..

Well, we all know (Apart from a way too big part of america it seems) that lifeforms are evolved from lesser life forms. Humans from monkeys, dogs probably from some sort of prehistorical predator.
And im pretty sure that rocks evolved from Cartalas.

I think he's jealous because the fleas want nothing to do with his receding hairline

Nice job grabbing a pet from a shelter. It's the only way people should get pets. Breeding farms and pet stores are bad news for the pet population. (especially pet shops)
Mutts > Purebreds

i once was in a conversation with a couple of afghani's about dog's and how much they cost in america and they were baffled that people will pay hundred of dollars for a dog instead of spending that money on their kids. when i explained about dog's being purebred they laughed and compared it to hitler trying to breed a perfect race of people.

Thats an interesting analogy of it nobody.. I agree, pet owners should buy from the local pound, I dont see the wonder of purebreds myself...
Just a word on collars, the ones I've looked at atleast, they dont get rid of fleas even.. all they do is supposedly prevent the fleas from reaching the dogs head and getting in their ears and stuff

Well, you know what the say about sexual predators, they're likely to branch out into other areas. From the little ones to the big ones... grats Atokal, you're growing as a deviant!

Hehe, me too. I never cared about dog breeds really and its just a coincidence that Pierre is full blooded. But, for people who are into particular breeds, there is a network of rescue organizations that specialize in each breed and they work together to find foster families and get the dogs into good health and then good homes. There are plenty of full-blooded breeds abandonned in shelters. No need to support breeders.

My mother's been looking into rescue programs for Westies since ours died. Some of them make you jump through some pretty ridiculous hoops tho. I can understand them wanting the dogs to find their way to good homes, but some of the background info they ask for is excessive.

If he did he must of been drunk I know Toker does not find women with Gunts attractive.

Atokal finds anything with a gash attractive, what're you talking about? I can quite honestly say I have never seen a more pathetic human being with zero redeeming qualities. Unless behing a hypocritical sexual predator is a redeeming quality that is.

The only person who should be ashamed here is Lalanae for lying. Shared a room with Robbyn never once made any untoward gestures to her and I was never even remotely drunk enough to make a play for Lalanae. Further I am married and have kids.
But you don't need to depend on my word. You can ask Robbynn or anyone else I hung with.
I do remember Lalanae making a statement that she wanted to hate me but that I was too damn cute. I said thanks and moved on.
