They called for 5-9 inches here in southern Maryland, but the storm definately decided to head straight north. I see an inch at most on the ground.

We got 11" of snow. What a wussy storm. It would have been cooler if it lasted longer. How come this shit never really hits during a work week.

You know what really cracks me up. I live in minnesota, we always have a shit ton of snow. But this year we have had two fallings of snow around 3-6" and thats it, one of them just a day or two ago. Now all the snow is moving east.
Even though people still can't drive in the snow - the good thing about Minnesota is that it would take about 4 feet of snow to shut the city down where as other states / cities that are getting it would after 6 inches.

We didn't get hit that bad here in Cleveland, I'd guess 6-7 inches. Really bad wind though so I had to dig out both cars this morning. Heard from a friend in CT that they got over a foot there heh.

Maybe a dumb question but as someone who's never lived where is snows much or any, what is the point of shoveling? snowblowing? etc? Why not just stay the heck inside and let it melt? Everything closes here when it does snow more than an inch so where is there to go? It's usually melted in a day or two anyway.

Well in the city it's usually the law that you have to clear your sidewalks, etc.
Not to mention some people have to get to work. It takes a long time for a significant amount of snow to melt. Especially when the temperature isn't forcast to be above freezing anytime soon.

most businesses stayed open... even with almost a foot of snow. consider that with the temperatures as low as they are, -3 degrees on the way to work, this shit will not melt any time soon, and business simply must go on. plus it's the law that you have to shovel your sidewalks and make them passable.

If you don't get snow in your area, chances are, you have none of the equipment necessary to clear it. Salt and sand are part of the budget. Contractors that purchase plows are sure to have them paid off by being hired to clear parking lots and such. Life just goes on to be honest.
Most of the roads on my commute this morning were, largely, cleared. Less than 24 hours after 18+ inches was dumped on my area and my piece of shit little civic got to work just fine. To wait for that to melt, well, I guess we could just close up shop until march, but I don't think that's very realistic.
