How many people held out to buy the boxed version with the added 30 minutes of footage? I did and now it is time to buy. Next Tuesday the boxed, and gift sets (comes with bookends) are available to purchase. Now to find out who will have them.

You ask that like there's something wrong with owning both versions:)
I bought the first one, and I'll buy the 2nd one.

How cool is this, my entirely hip Great-Uncle, preordered me a copy like 2 months ago from Amazon heh.
I sent him the vcd while it was in theatres and he wanted to see more himself. Now all we need is Liv Tyler in the rain with her nipples poking thru he wet shirt ( err wait that was Kirsten Dunst in Spiderman)

Speaking of midget porn, Howard Stern was talking about some movie called "The Whore of the Rings" a few months ago. Supposedly it's a midget porn movie with a fairly substantial budget, which is mostly faithful to the LoTR script...you know, except for the whole part about the hobbits having freaky sex and all.

We held out for the Uber-Boxed edition. But now I have a dilemma, because the complete boxed Band Of Brothers was released earlier this week, to the tune of $120. And I really want that series too.
How much does LotR cost? It probably won't matter, I'll likely end up buying both.

$120 is list price on BoB. Can probably get it for $85 at Wal-Mart or wherever.

Yeah..I passed on getting the theatrical release to wait for the 4 disk set. Saw no oreason to buy both...had a good copy on cd anyway... Glad its finally coming out.. digitalbits.com gave it a good review..lots of extras

Best Buy had the regular 4-disc version for $30 and the box-set for $50. Not a bad price, really.

Best Buy = One Stop Shop for new DVDs (if you're not ordering via the net). They always have the new releases deeply discounted.

I just got the boxed gift set.. it's pretty cool. I thought the book ends were going to be incredibly cheesey, but they're pretty well done.
Extra scenes are very nice. The extended footage fleshes some parts out nicely. All the extra shit is great too.. just dont have enough time in the day to sit down and watch it all.

they needed not chop about 90 minutes off this movie, not add 30.

Well I think we found one person who didn't like LoTR!
Anyway, I almost forgot. If you bought the Theatrical release, it came with a rebate coupon for $5 if you bought the Extended version and $10 if you bought the Gift Set. So that brings it down to only $40 at Best Buy.
Oh, if you bought the original DVD and it didn't have any rebate coupon in it, you can request one from the LoTR site.

(Of course, that assumes you still have your original sales receipt)

I am looking forward to the day that all three movies are out with all the footage so I can kill a weekend. This is one of those movies you really wish wouldn't end, so I think adding 30 minutes is awesome. I wish they could add more.
Would love to see a TV series if it was done right.

You're buying the same movie twice? What the fuck is wrong with you people?

Not all of us did. I held out and waited for this one to come out. It wasn't easy but I managed. Now I am trying to avoid all previews on TV (and the dvd) of the next movie so I can enjoy it all that much more.

Once again, proof that Searyx is a dipshit and I don't know why I bothered to un-stfu him on that post.
It's not the same move twice. None of the special features are duplicated. And, after rebate, I end up paying $5.99 for the Theatrical Release which is not much more than a rental.
So kindly go back to where ever you were the past few weeks. It's been rather nice around here without your lame comments.

Aslanna knows her shit when it comes to DVDs.
This site needs a DVD Review forum. ...I think we'd have plenty of input.
Make it so! (or no buffs for you pyrella! : )

Well, I meant I clicked the 'HERE' thing to see the post. Don't ask me what came over me to do such a thing. I have no idea! I wont let it happen again.

Ok I watched the extended version last night / this morning.
Now was I nodding off - or did the entire scene where Isiador (sp?) and the Elf from the Matrix go up to Mount Doom to destroy the ring get removed?
It was like 5am when I started watching it, so I'm really not sure if I was just spacing out or what.

You were nodding off apparently. It's still there. I don't think any scenes were removed.

This was a must buy - we rented the theatrical release when it came out just to see it again because we knew we would be getting the extended release.
One of my biggest hopes is they go back and do The Hobbit to make it complete.

Picked mine up at Best Buy for 25 bucks

Not bad at all for all that you get. Also, it came with a voucher for a Two Towers ticket

I don't think any scenes were removed.
I wasn't watching for removed scenes so much as looking for new ones, but there's a part in the beginning when Galdalf is riding in on the wagon when Frodo says something along the lines of "tell me of the outside world, tell me everything" and he responds with something like the outside world doesn't think of Hobbits or something, and how he hopes they never do.
Or something like that. Not really important, but missing..

Haha, Searyx on STFU, why didn't I do this before!
