From the second article:
"I'll never trust squirrels again."
This may be the funniest out-of-context quote I've seen in a long while.

These pussies won WW II how?...
(And to all the americans...yea yea u came in and helped the brits out...4 years after the war had already started, and then it was also already being won by the allies)

As for the pic of the squirrel, the animal is grey, from what I remember of my kiddy days, squirrels in europe are red.

Heh...I was just laughing my ass off at the idea of 40 year old men running their asses away from a lil squirrel chasing them down with its tail up lol..

I haven't ever heard of an agressive squirrel, however they can become extremely comfortable around humans. The little tree-rats on campus completely ignore the thousands of students walking around. Cool story tho. I will be watching my back from now on.

We have red and grey squirrels in the UK. The greys are more common here unlike continental europe where the red is more prevalent.

But we can't have the little buggers biting the childrens on their faces! Shooting is a little downmarket though. Someone should have sent a gaggle of aristos on horseback accompanied by 200 beagles to tear the critter to shreds.
Much more like it. Tally Ho!

I am not a history expert but although America didn't have actual soldiers in the war for the first few years, you still had a shitload of our weapons. Britain would be speaking German right now if we hadn't come to their aid.

Yay, let's derail this into another WWII thread!

Can never have enough Eddie Murphy.

Don't you mean Audy Murphy? What's so wrong with speaking German? I love Du Hast and crank it on the radio all the time. Don't know if I could handle German in a Brit accent though.

It's quite funny to watch a full-grown man try to fend off a squirrel. Downside to it was that my friend had been bitten and the squirrel was somehow "locked" on his hand. He danced like a wildman trying to fling that squirrel off his hand.

A bunch of us were at the lake in the fall and decided we needed a fire in the fireplace. My buddy reached down to get some logs off the woodpile and started screaming and dancing in circles. We had no idea at first what was up, but as the rest of us filtered outside to see what the ruckus was, about all we could make out was what appeared to be a squirrel's tail at the end of his arm. At first we thought he had somehow caught it and was trying to get control. Didn't take long to realize that the squirrel was in full control of that situation.

Alan eventually got the squirrel off, with the rest of us rolling around and laughing. He didn't find it so funny.

"It was awful because she (Kelsi) was spinning around and we couldn't get it off," her mother told the newspaper.

On the whole US Brit WW2 thing, it sounds like some historically clueless need to look up the term lend lease.

BTW the Russians were winning, the Brits were enduring. Amazingly enduring.

Squirrel of Doom > ANOTHER WWII debate

I agree with Pubin, the average campus squirrel isn't afraid of people at all. In fact, when I was in college, they frequently bombarded students that got too close to their territory. They'd use anything handy, acorns, bits of twig, garbage, whatever, and toss it down on you from the trees.

And you always had to be careful when throwing away garbage, because they liked to root around in there. A girl in my Psych class got attacked by one as she was throwing away her Quarter Pounder meal (thus proving my theory that Mayor McCheese is the arch-enemy of squirrels).

There's a botanical garden near the house with "tame" squirrels. People have been feeding them so long that they don't care in the least if you pet them. Not that I would, getting bit by a rodent is waaay down my list of things to do.

Heh, same place. The tame woodrats really weirded me out. I can't remember what the little girl feeding them thought they were, but she (and her Mom) freaked when I told them it was a rat.

Pretty nice garden, not something I'd expect out there in bubbaland like that.

yeah totally )

it was nice. but my friend tried to make some squirrel noise like he was Dr. Doolittle, and the thing jumped up on his chest. he of course jumped, fell down, swatted it off him. And the rest of us laughed our asses off.

Too bad it wasn't on ABC or CBS news. I love their teasers.

KILLER VERMIN HOLD TOWNS HOSTAGE. FIND OUT WHY YOUR CHILD ISN'T SAFE!

Nearly every news segment they run starts with

"Find out why you(r <insert family member or possesion here>) isn't safe"

Posted: November 8, 2002, 5:54 pm
by Raistin
I love news starting off with that. They build up the story like it will change life as we know it. Like "Findout tonight at 11! A killer is on a rampage _insertrandomtown_, tune in when we tell you what cities the slayings have been in. We also have a sketch of what he looks like, and drives. You can count on us,tune in at 11!" Then they run a 10 second info tape, and has a sketch of a guy who looks like everyone you know.

This is one of the reasons I don't watch any type of news anymore. They rely more on their own thoughts, than what the public would like to know. Thus cluttering up bullshit stories that only tell one half of the story, and totally misses any type of point that could be made.
