The same company that brought us The Palm Islands, Al Nakheel Properties (Nakheel Corp), have done it again expanding their portfolio of man-made islands with this latest Dubai island project shaped like the continents of the world.

Yes, they have cable and DSL there (the default is DSL). Both work pretty darn well, though they cap out a 2Mbps -- or they did when I lived there. The top of the line connection cost like $200 a month or so.
Dubai is a great place to visit, even to work -- but I wouldn't want to live there more than a few years.
