I was reading another message board and someone posted how they were grossed out by LeBron James biting his nails all of the time. It didn't seem like a big deal to me but what about Steve Nash? Nash licks his hands like 20 times a game and before every free throw attempt. The basketball is touched by everyone and is bounced on the ground all over the place.

LeBron James and Nash are swapping spit on the court. I'd be concerned if I was Nash, or any other player, about getting sick from all of that hand licking. Maybe germs aren't as big a deal as we thought.

Coming in contact with all those germs just builds up your natural immunity. Why do little kids put everything in their mouth, including their own snot that they picked out of their nose, toys that lay around on the floor, etc? We're just fighting our own natural instincts that are designed to keep us healthier!

Now I'm aware that good hygiene is important, but our society takes it way farther than necessary. I'm convinced that our hygiene obsession is the primary reason for many of our health failings.
