Had a PC guy install my gfx card (Radeon 9600 SE) over my onboard one. Now some colours are wrong. Red shows up as black/bottle green, apparently white backgrounds are blue (but i cant see this). Various red txt isnt visible.

its not the monitor, so what is there I can do?

First thing I'd check is the pins on your monitor cable.. you say it's not the monitor so perhaps you've done this already, but if you bend/remove the R pin you'll get this result.

Failing that I'd say you have a bad card..

Also try getting the latest driver from ATi, but it does sound as though the red video output isn't connecting to the red gun in the monitor. If your monitor D-shell connector pins aren't bent/pushed in/broken in then the card is bad. What happens when you remove/disable the new card and attach the monitor to the onboard video?

Good luck!

My new video card just came in yesterday (128 radeon pro 9800 sapphire manufacturer) and I set it up. Everything was going good in HL2 but then I started noticing small different color specs in the air. Then I started noticing different color spots all over the place (like some bad paintball mode). Eventually a lot of textures just started stretching all over the screen, past the point of playable. I tried playing Wow, Medal of Honor, and other steam games and got the same results (in no particular order).

Now, I tried ati's latest drivers, and Ive tried sapphire's latest drivers. Each had the same results. I THINK it might have to do with the frequencies. Ever since Ive had this new card in Ive been getting a "Frequency over Range" warning from my monitor when I turn the computer on. Ive emailed ati about my problem but I doubt I will get word very soon, so I turned to you guys! I would GREATLY appreciate help anyone can offer.

I was told pixel and texture corruption was a sign of a damaged board when mine was doing that. =\ I sent it back and got a free upgrade though, so no complaints!

Now, Im pretty sure this will fit on my fan, but I just want to make sure that this fan's purpose is to be put on top of a video card.
