Scary Movies

Well, it's Hollowen time and some friends and I are having a little get together this weekend. Everyone is going to bring to bring a scary movie to watch as we play UT3K on a LAN.

It dosen't matter if it's old or new. Post what movie you thought was a good, eerie flick. It dosen't even have to be extremely scary either, as long is it's entertaining.

I am leaning towards John Carpenter's, The Thing. That scared the bajeezus out of me as a kid and still has some creepy visuals. My other pick is Dead Alive. If you have never seen it, grab a barf bag and prepare to witness the most violent/gory movie ever made. I figure that would get an awful lot of Oooos and Ahhhs and maybe distract my buddies long enough for me to capture the flag ;)

Any of the Hell Raiser movies are pretty good.

Personally the Exorcist was the one I remember as a kid scaring the crap outta me.

Blair Witch = the suck
Jeepers Creepers = not bad (could have been much better)
Original Halloween = good
The Thing = good

Living Dead series always fun.
Army of Darkness = laugh riot

Exorcist has the be one of the top ones on my list. I remember going to watch a movie at the theatre when I was little and hearing the screams of people next door who were watching it. Rocky Horror Picture Show if you want something goofy to watch as well. :D

No Xou. :( EH was a pile of stinking monkey crap that wouldn't be graced by even the foulest of dung beetles, congressmen, or porn site operators and may or may not have had it's roots in the intestinal track of Fat Bastard after eating a moldy gourmet being served by the butler from scary movie 2.

It's hard to find a good scary movie these days where the evil guy is not cracking terrible one liners. That should be outlawed. If you are gonna be scary, then scare me, If you want to make me laugh, then make me laugh. PLEASE do not try to do both. Ex. Nightmare on Elm street....scary, no jokes, no comedy, just evil guy slicing it up. THEN come the sequels *hey, lets have him crack some jokes, won't that be cool!* NO!

Jacobs Ladder is one of my favorites. One of very few in the genre I liked.

Works with my "Anything with Christopher Walken is good" theory too.

For it's time, I thought Candyman was really good. Of course, they ruined it by making 2 more films that sucked ass.

This is an older flick but it scared me when I was younger. Prince of Darkness. It isn't a vampire movie, it is more of a Satan kind of movie. Along those thoughts the Omen series was really good too. Or Phantasm series.

Exorcist gave me the most trauma as a child.
But otherwise movies arent scary.
Books can be great for a scare though, the night I finished reading Cujo I slept with the lights on. Ignored the movie pretty much.

God I think I was like 8 or something when my big brother took me to see The Thing... When the dogs busted open I proceeded to go under the movie theater seats and started bawling lol. I ended up next door watching Annie

Ummm...Communion...not good...Though I guess if I were type casting for a guy who was repeatedly molested by aliens, no name other than Christopher Walken would come readily to mind...

Poltergeist and Psycho are the two best scary movies, ever.

The Thing scared me witless as well, when I was a kid.

For newer films, Event Horizon had some good moments. It was a combo of several genre flicks, but did well. In the Mouth of Madness was pretty damn creepy as well...

NO, teenie shit is not scary. Yes, all you goofball Jeepers Creepers/scream fans can suck it. Garbage shit. Plotless, boring, plastic mask fucking 29cent bullshit. It was not good 20 years ago, it is not good now. If I want to see cheap skin, I will rent Lesbian Sorority Nurses and have at it. Be original, fuck people up in the audience. Leave the teens to their Eminem, 20 inch rims, bling bling necklaces and baggy pants.

And now, for some classic scary shit:

Dawn of the Dead
Evil Dead
The Shining
Poltergeist
Night of the Living Dead
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
TCM2 (Just because Dennis Hopper was badass)
Phantasm
Hellraiser
Alien
Halloween 1 & 2

Campy great gore:

Return of the Living Dead
Zombie(Lucio Fulci's finest work)
City of the Dead
Dead Alive (unrated, and Peter Jackson's finest ;) )
Bad Taste
Redneck Zombies(nothing like a secondary character who only chugs booze the entire movie)

Posted: October 30, 2002, 2:06 am

and my personal favorite The Hitcher
Ah yeah, that was an excellent flick :) One of my top ten psycho-thrillers for sure :)

The Gate
Dead Alive (OMFG that was too fucking funny)
The Others (they did it right)
Jeepers Creepers (Daylight part anyhow)
