Fucking SUCK!

What happened?

Best buy apparantly likes to put stickers all over any dvd case (movies, games, etc.) So when removing this stickers, you knick the hell out of the plastic, and im bored and superficial enough for it to bother me. However this is the 5th case ive knicked the plastic on and I dont see any other way of removing these fucking things. They have no removal tab or anything. Just a rectangle of anguish!

In Related news, PS2 has by far, the worst working dvd player I have ever seen. I'de rather pay $30 to get the xbox add on than deal with this pos anymore.

I usually just use a pocket knife and cut the stripe down the middle then peal both sides, usually this stops any type of damage.

I remember my original ps2 sucking for dvd big time too, I bought one of the new compact ps2's and I am hoping they worked some of the bugs out ... Such as the," break in 2 years and need to pay the price of a new ps2 to get it fixed bug", that one really sucks.

It seems you sir have not yet mastered the art of opening DVDs. You might want to work on something a little easier that you can deal with, say CDs maybe? That one only has 1 security sticker. It's quite simple really. First you need to get rid of that tight plastic around the entire case. With your finger nail or anything thin and strong, find the slit on the left side which is a bit to the right of the hinge portion. Just press in and the plastic will break. Now run your finger nail or other device up or down, cutting the plastic. The plastic film should be very easy to remove now. Next, un-hinge the cover portion from the bottom where there is no security strip. Now start flipping the cover door up. It should now be extremly easy and clean to remove the security strip. Put the cover "door" back on and whalah, all security stickers and film cleanly and quickly removed. Once you have mastered this, get back to me and I may share the secret to removing the security stickers for DVDs.

Cd stickers have a removal tab, they are insanely easy to remove, now if dvd stickers had removal tabs

The sad part is, all you have to do is work someplace (retail) for a couple of days before you discover all the tricks -they- use to get the devices off with in short order. For example, I can give you a good one for popping ink tags off of merchandise that can be done at the safety of your own home that completely defeats them without staining your clothes at the least.

I agree that Best Buy should use a method that maintains their loss prevention (If it works? Seems like the only people that have a problem with the crap are the people that actually PAY for the merchandise) goals while not fucking up my DVD cases.

I guess Best Buy is fine with the consumer choosing between a good price and non-fucked up cases. Personally, a dollar or two isn't worth shreading my DVD cases, nor is it worth any "unhinging" process.

Honestly, I try to buy DVD's from Wal-Mart because they just throw the security shit inside the box...a kick ass method of doing it...but I digress. The only way to convince Best Buy to stop using security devices that mangle the merchandise would be to go in there and start throwing DVD's while screaming "THESE FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT SECURITY STICKERS KEEP RIPPING MY DVD CASES AND NOW IT'S FUCKING PAYBACK TIME!!!!"

I'll consider that once I have exhausted all other options.

Bandwidth is getting close to the point where you can download movies online.

I use a HTPC (Home Theater PC). I would prefer to never have to see a DVD as storing movies on my hard drive and using a kick ass front and app that links to IMDB for info and cover images for the movies combined with the NVDVD Codecs and FFDShow filter gives you by far the most convenient and best picture. With this method, you could make a backup copy of the movie on DVD if you wanted to archive it but if a backup isn't important, you would save materials, etc. by keeping it all electronic (Just like iTunes, etc)

It still takes 3-4 hours to download a full DVD over the net with a fast cable connection, if the format remains mpeg-2, so this method is a generation away along with the terabyte drives.

I work at Staples and (to sum it up) our security devices suck.. We keep the ink in Acrylic boxes what can be easily broken if needed and all of our hard drives/networking/phones etc. are kept in what we call spider wraps which can be easily cut.


But since we dont sell DVDs the only software we keep out are also in acrylic boxes (that pretty much serve no purpose)...


All of our bigger thinks (digital cameras, memory etc.) we keep locked up. Thats about as secure as we get.

From what I've been told our other stores have much more security than us because we're not consider "High Risk" enough to need more. So when shit comes up missing and it falls on me I always say the same thing.

"Oh don't worry, we're not "High Risk" enough for anyone to care.

Security devices like the ink cartriges are meant more as a deterant than a true anti-theft device. Sounds like Best Buy's are a consumer deterant too!
