New Orleans Eats

One week until the New Orleans Fan Faire and I am looking for *specific* restaurant recommendations. I know the food is great in NO, I just want to know the places no one should ever miss while there. Any type of food!

Cafe du Mond for breakfast (any time of day or night really). eat their beignets and drink their coffee!

I should also add that a good sushi restaurant rec and a good soul food restaurant rec would be deeply appreciated.

Most of the places I list will be pretty expensive and in the French Quarter fyi.

Italian -
Maximo's - Decatur
Bella Luna - Decatur

Japanese (sushi)-
Wasabi - slightly out of the Quarter over on Frenchmen

General Fancy Food -
The Rib Room - Saint Louis St. I think, in some hotel.

Light lunch! -
Cafe Mojo (paninis) - Decatur
Napoleon House (get the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer) - 500 Chartres

Seafood -
French Quarter Market - Decatur I think - this is where to get the crawfish (suck the head and eat the tail) and the raw oysters (cracker and a little hot sauce)

I couldn't remember the name of a good soul food place because I stick mostly with the seafood and italian which is divine. My suggestion would be to pop your head in a decent looking bar and ask the bartender, they know everything.

Edit - Don't mention Mulates (Seebs recommendation) too loud in a bar. I'm not sure if it's a restaurant or not but it's become a fairly offensive slang term for a black person in some places!

Cafe Rainy it good ... i think its near magazine street, you should also go up and down magazine street its rather awsome

Mother's on Poydras Stree
The Poboys here are low price, but virtually unbeatable in taste and quality. If you go during lunch be prepared to stand in a very long line outside! Well worth the wait though.


Commander's Palace on Washington Street
If you're looking to spend some major green. Lunch is significantly cheaper than dinner.


Port of Call on Esplanade
OMG great burgers are here. I know it's not typical Cajen cuisine but the burgers are off the fucking chain.


And of course Cafe Du Monde in the quarter is a must for the beignets and coffee at almost anytime except late at night.

The word you are referring to is 'Moolinyan' <sp>, from what I understand is Italian for 'Eggplant' which in turn the word 'Moolie' is used as a derogatory term for people of Color.

You probably tell people not to use the word 'Kite' in fromnt of Jews.

Rather nice listing of dining there. If I had to pick one single place out for you though, it would be hands down K Paul's. You can't beat this place, it's a must eat at least once in your life :)

much, MUCH <3 for K-Pauls. Highly recommended, as is Cafe Du Monde.

cafe du monde is a must at least one morning or mid afternoon snack. Sugar rush galore.

Now depending on what you plan to spend, there are oodles of choices.

If you stay near the French Quarter, Emeril's is a bit of a hike but the food really is terrific there. Call far enough in advance and you may be able to get seats in front of the chef's area. And like the show, you may get to sample a number of dishes.
The jazz brunch at Arnaud's is terrific. Turtle soup w/ sherry, mmmm. Jacket required.
Pat O'Brien's Bar was fun as well. Wicked Hurricanes, and you have to tryt their fried alligator bits.

Don't know too much about the sushi there. We try to stick w/ the town favorites when we're there.
