Pat Summerall sucks!

Why in the name of all that is holy did ESPN hire Pat Summerall as an NFL commentator? Sure, he's had a great career but the man has become senile and can barely follow the game anymore. Every Sunday night I think the same thing, but next week he's still there. He should be narrating NFL Films documentaries!

p.s. Dallas sucks, too.

Discussing a Jerry Porter reception near the end of the game:

Other Commentator: "Yes, his knee comes down in bounds, then his elbow, then his left shoulder."
Pat: "I think his left foot may have been out."
OC: "Well, let's see it again. There's his knee, his elbow, his shoulder. Nope, left foot never even touches the ground."
Pat: "I think it was out."
OC: "Where? Let's see it again... nope, no foot."
Pat: "It was earlier."

What the fuck?

lol, I remember that. Joe Theisman or the other announcer then says , "oh" or "huh?"

I equate the Pat Sumerall hire on Sunday nights to be equivalent to ABC's hiring of Denis Miller for Monday Night Football. Needless to say, I only watched one quarter of the first monday night game that year with sound.

But, I will say, listening to Joe Theismann and the other guy argue damn near makes my ears bleed. When I watch football on Sunday night, I mute the sound.

Bah I loved having Dennis Miller in the booth. He's hilarious. Using big words that the ex-football players turned booth jockey can't even hope to comprehend.

It is not actually a Dennis Miller in the booth problem for me, it's a Dennis Miller period issue. His humor just isn't appealing to me.

Put Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock in the booth and then I'd probably humored. but other than that, I don't like people cracking jokes every damned play. Hence, the reason for my mute button.

Madden is losing it as well.

One of his quotes from Monday Night, "Coaching is for coachs"

Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein. - Joe Theismann

To win in this league, you have to score more points than the other team. - John Madden

And just for the hell of it

We're gonna turn this team around 360 degrees. - Jason Kidd

I'm like the Pythagorean theorem; no one can figure me out. - Shaquille O'Neal

Hawaii doesn't win many games in the United States. - Lee Corso

That would quickly make me hit the Off button and leave it off for sure.

I agree with the first part.. and considering the second part I guess he proved himself right :p

Thats my point about Dennis Miller being terrible for broadcasting football.

Not everybody has the same taste in comedy. But if your sitting at home/bar/whatever on Monday night watching a game, your not watching it for the comedic value. If I wanted to watch a sitcom, CBS, NBC, and all the other networks offer them in that same timeframe.

ABC was just making a lame attempt to draw in the non-football fanatics and I am so glad the experiment failed.

you mean the 2-1 Cowboys?

At least the Texans were able to squeeze out one win this season. Congrats on that.

Let's hope that the Texan's win two in a row so that David Carr will cut his mop.

Yup, Pat needs to go. He just called the Redskins Jacksonville.

On a hilarious Theismann note:

Dan: John Ogden just blocked two guys and got in the way of another.
Joe: No he just took out three people.

I feel so sorry for the third guy who is forever correcting Joe and Pat.
