Dell Laptop Repair

Some time back the screen on my Dell Inspiron exploded(?) and it is all cracked and screwed up. I am not too sure how it happened, though I suspect it had something to do with a 5 year old and a stomping rampage.

I have been looking around locally for places to fix it and almost no one seems to repair dell laptops. Or at least not the screen.

So I searched online, I came up with http://www.parts-people.com and have been contemplating sending it there for repair. Has anyone here ever sent their stuff to them? Im more worried about sending it and not getting it back then sending it to get fixed.

Also, does anyone have any other links I might look into for getting it fixed? Thank you for your help and opinions!

Call them first and talk to them about it, see what you think after that about sending your laptop to them.

Also, if you know anything about computers, i.e. have ever put one together or upgraded one without a lot of confusion you could consider replacing it yourself. Typically the hardest part to replacing a laptop screen is ribbon cable from the mother board to the lcd. That and they typically try to hide the screws you need to pull.

Thanks for replying Neost!!

I had considered repairing it myself, but I already managed to mangle the F7 key in some smooth attempt to do something that would eventually lead to me breaking my F7 key :roll:

While I do plan to call them I was hoping to get some feedback from others who may have had a good experience with them or another company.

Dell considers the screen a user replaceable part. A new screen will come with the tools and instructions with lots of big pictures. Save the extra cash, the screen will cost you enough with out adding labor to it.

If it is just the LCD itself, it should be a matter of removing a total of 10 screws, unplugging 2 cables and then attaching the new LCD in the old ones place. If you have to replace a cable then you may need someone that is certified by Dell. The LCDs are expensive as hell though....I would never leave a laptop where a child or animal could get at it.

Replacing laptop parts is almost as easy as replacing desktop parts.. Dell does include decent instruction with the replacement.

Thank you for all your input.

Actually it happened right after a roadtrip and it was put with the rest of the baggage. Im still not sure how it happened, but this kid will crack sooner or later.
