Inadequate doses of general anesthesia can allow people to recall surgery, or even wake up during it, problems that occur in 1 percent of cases, Sessler said.

"If redheads require more anesthesia and are not given more, their chances of having recall during surgeries increase," he said

One time, I had to have a scope put into my mouth down into my stomach. I woke up just as they got it inside of my mouth and imediatly proceeded to puke up absolutly nothing... except for my stomach lining. Grats retard doctors >_<

I woke up briefly while I was having my wisdom teeth removed. My head was being violently jerked to the right as the doctor wrenched on my imbedded tooth. I didn't feel any pain, but I remeber seeing blood and wondering how it got on his wrist. I passed right back out, but that makes me wince now.

A few years ago, I had my tonsils and adnoids removed, and I had an operation done on my septum at the same time. While I was getting prepped for surgery, a student doctor was explaining all the risks of anastasia and such, and he also put in my IV into my palm, well, he got the needle end of it in, and blood started to spew out of the end of the tube, but the guy was shaking so hard it took him like 15 seconds to get the cap onto the damn thing. Needless to say my outlook for things turned to shit there.. everything went smoothly after that though, and they told me that in a few weeks I should expect minor bleeding from my throat.

Well, about two weeks later, I woke up and tasted blood, so I went into the bathroom and proceeded to choke up a blood clot the size of a softball, and continue bleeding from my throat. My parents rushed me into the emergency room, and I sat in there wide awake, no sedatives or anything while they cauterized my throat over and over for about 30 minutes. Finally - after sitting through this, and having the lady in the bed next to me die while her whole family sat there and cried, I got rushed into emergency surgery for a blood transfusion. To put it lightly, I wince everytime I think about a hospital.

When I went to get my appendix out, they were leery of giving me a general anesthetic since I'm a smoker and I have mild asthma. Instead, they gave me a spinal and just put a curtain over my chest so I couldn't see what they were doing down there. I have clear recall of it for the first little bit of surgery, and I remember feeling like a little pulling sensation on my stomach that tickled a bit.

I asked one of the nurses if they were shaving me and she told me that it was the first incision. Not long after that my memory fades, but they told me later that the spinal hadn't worked correctly, and that I was feeling what they were doing and kicking my legs around. They then put me all the way under and finished up. The part I remember while being awake was pretty trippy, it would have been kind of interesting (and totally freaky) if the curtain hadn't been there and I could have seen what was going on.

well they try to minimize the amount of anesthesia they give to people cause they don't want them to die from too much anesthesia =).

Heh I had my appendix removed last week and they sent me way under. I remeber breathing it in and getting way woozy and then waking up in more pain than I had before going under the knife.

Had my followup exam yesterday and everything's fine.

I had plastic surgery on my leg a while back, and the anesthesiologist got a bit freaked about how much it took to put me under. They didn't want to do a local as it was going to take a couple hours. I didn't wake up for 2 days afterwards.

I'll take a local if at all possible after that.
