Not that he would have played, but the Lakers second round pick in the 2004 Draft, Marcus Douthit, was just indicted for identity theft, embezzlement, and insurance fraud.
What is it about this franchise that seems to attract drama and controversy like a magnet does iron?

They are kind of like the Pro Sport version of the University of Miami!

As you said he probably won't play anyway. I would like to know why the NBA even bothers to have more than one round of draft. It seems like the top ten are the only ones who really stick around anyway. They don't have a farm league like baseball far as I know and they don't need the large amount of numbers that NFL does.

No, that would be the Oakland Raiders. They seem to care more for their "bad boy" image than quality players. (re: janakowski, marinovich, romo, etc). I bet it is a prerequisite to get one of those NO FEAR tattoos or something, because you know, that is just sooooo badass.
The Lakers seem to stay relatively clear of truly troubled athletes aside from this latest case and the Kobe thing(I don't think he did it).
You want Basketball drama, how bout the Blazers? It is funny as hell! These guys can't stay out of trouble. Mostly it is just the weed, but man, the last couple of years they have been all over the news.
Edit: missing pronoun

Want to debate whether the Lakers or Suns will have a better record next year? It's all about "what have you done for me lately" so we must focus on next year!
(The Suns are working on another deal atm so things aren't settled yet for next year)

Working on another drug deal? You guys should trade some of your stiffs and get a couple of (aptly named) Blazers.

I despise the lakers, but I still know the Suns suck
