The meaning behind songs

I enjoy songs because of the beat, rhythm and singer's voice etc.

However, I often find I will like a song even more then I already do when I find out about why the song is written, if the lyrics to a song tell a story or are written for an event. I seem to enjoy it even more when I find out about it.

Examples:
Youth of the nation - POD - I found this tune catchy at first and then I found out they wrote this song for the school shootings. I listened to the lyrics and related it to those events and I seemed to enjoy the song more.

Don't stand so close to me - The Police - Just a great little story about a young teacher and a school girl fantasy. Actually I just recently got curious to the line "He starts to shake he starts to cough / Just like the old man in / That famous book by Nabakov" I was wondering what book they were talking about. I checked it out and if I am correct it was the book "Lolita" which is about an old man having an affair with his twelve year old stepdaughter.

Anyhow...

1. Does anyone know of a website that has easter eggs for songs or just explains if a song has a deeper meaning or a story behind it.

2. Does anyone just know of a song that they enjoy much more because of a story behind it or why it was written? If so which song?

I'm not as much of a fan as I used to be of his music, but Manson's fourth CD, AntichristSvperstar, follows a lot of Nietzsche theory on the ubermensch, evolution of the human race and the state of religion/God.

Of course there's always MJK's work that's very cryptic and has some level of meaning to it.

Blasphemer! You can't mention Manson in the same breath as Maynard. MJK > all.

I agree, so I put some space between them for ya. I'm not even going to touch the hidden meanings etc in Maynard's lyrics. Though I have been listening to Opiate a lot recently and found that meanings aren't very hidden at all in that era.

One of the coolest meanings in songs has to be in Filter's "Hey man, Nice shot".

I never personally saw the video for it but I love the song. Isn't it about someone's suicide?

It's about Kurt Cobain's "suicide".

Best I remember, it was about a congressman (i think, some politician i guess to be accurate)...but the suicide part is right, just not the subject.

I heard it was written by Elvis and the Big Bopper from their island paradise in the Pacific and was telepathically sent to Kurt Cobains corpse where it rose from the dead and went on to sing backup on the song.

Yeah, I think you're right on that one. There was some political figure that killed himself on camera, during a local (?) news interview or press conference or something like that. Apparently the whole thing is often used in classes studying the media, because of the differences between the cameramen and how they covered it. One camera immediately went off of him when they realized what was going to happen, one of them cut away right after he pulled the trigger, and yet another like zoomed in on his bleeding body. At least that's how I remember the story being relayed to me, my friend is actually the one who took the class.
