The song is Baba O'Reilly, it's a top 5er for sure

Yeah Baba is in the top 50 all time.
But I am sorry, The Who may have the greatest Middle Rock song. But of ROCK rock, you would have to eliminate from history the bands, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, etc to promote the Who that far. Yes, they had a great sound, and were very creative, but they were not in the same class of demigod status as the best of all time.

i didn't really pay attention to the case but he is a celebrity so not like you can trust the courts decision anyway.

As I recall, Petey confessed to owning subscriptions to child porn websites and visiting them, but he claimed it was for "research" on a book he intended to write at some vague point in the future.

Wasn't vague in any way, he was molested as a kid and was doing work on his book about child sexual abuse.

yeah he wrote an article in some magazine or newspaper about how he openly went to child porn sites on the internet and how easy it was to download pictures of little boys having sex or something like that, and that is what lead to the investigation on him in the first place.

His book is done or near done, I think.
Anyhow, the Who are a great band, but not one of the best. That is deffinitely one of the songs from that era that has withstood the test of time, but I think Won't get Fooled Again is a much better song.

Not a huge Who fan but Entwhistle played a mean bass.
The greatest rock song ever is probably by Motorhead or The Ramones.

Never did care for The Who. Definitely not even close to being the best rock song of all time.
If you are only talking about older classic rock, then it is going to rest squarely on Led Zeppelin....also which I didn't care for a whole lot. You could go so many ways about which to judge a song.....my personal taste rested with pre-sellout Metallica and the politically driven lyrics.

Yes it is easily one of the greatest rock songs ever.
Yes Pete was cleared of all charges, and everything discuess about research, the book, and Pete himself being molested is true to everything I have read.
And to counter, The Who (specifically Pete) are possibly the most underrated songwriters in the history of Rock. There are some seriously genius things going on, but I think it was generally given less attention due to the fact that it was harder, more aggressive rock.
Then again...I wasn't there...but study it muchly.

I'll second that! Zepplin is king and that song in particular is my favorite. (honorable mention: Going to California)
Zepplin riffs > All pretenders

led zepplin can hardly be classified as music much less a band capable of producing a listenable song. sorry, but my origial assertation stands.

Name one of your favorite Zeppelin songs.
One of my picks is Achilles Last Stand

It's hard to pick a favorite Zep tune since they are all so great to sing along to. As a person who is trying to learn to play guitar, I have a deep appreciation for the range of styles that Led Zep puts forth. Virtually all their songs are a joy to play on acustic.
A couple of favorties:
Your Time is Gonna Come
Over the Hills and Far Away
Bron-Y-Aur Stomp <------ Probably my absolute favorite. I'ts pretty much simple blue grass music.
I have many favorites, but the above 3 appeal to me the most. They had an incredible range in the usage of insturments which created wide variety of musical textures. That's what makes Led Zeppelin so uniquie to me.

"The Battle of Evermore" that Paige/Plant did for MTV Unplugged was fucking outstanding as well.

Misty Mountain Hop ranks up there as well...and the Immigrant Song!
So as not to hijack the thread completely, My Generation by The Who is the best stutter song ever.
Why don't you all f-fade away (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
And don't try to d-dig what we all s-s-say (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I'm not trying to cause a b-big s-s-sensation (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I'm just talkin' 'bout my g-g-generation (Talkin' 'bout my generation)

Kashmir. Definately.
Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed
