How to put it quickly?
There is a difference between being open, and having a relationship. I am very open and honest, especially on-line. My posts are just my posts, they mean nothing...it's not a means to start an intimate relationship.
----------------------------------
Now back to the concept:
I can understand if they were local, because then you just met them through EQ, and then you built the relationship in person, that's normal. I can see myself doing the same.
But the long distance ones are the ones that I'm curious about. I mean do they see eachother often IRL? It's hard to see myself investing that much effort at the beginning of a relationship.
If not then the relationship was built mainly on-line? I don't really see myself as capable of taking anything further then casual friend on-line.
Then again I know I'm a slow mover and that is why I'm so curious. I look at my friends and they walk into a bar, get a phone number and call them up for a date later that week. I have to meet the girl a few times before I know them enough to want to ask them out. Of course that is problematic, because how do you meet them multiple times without asking them out? heh...ya...it's a bad practice. I don't recommend it.

I can't believe I'm going to respond to this but what the hell.
I met my fiance online... in Everquest actually. It is long distance... I live in Sudbury, Ontario... he lives in Anchorage, Alaska. After a couple of years chatting online and on the phone, we met in person. We met out of a common interest (Everquest/gaming), and built upon that. We have similar interests, we want the same out of a relationship, we have the same ideals on how to raise a family, etc etc. I'm currently waiting for my Visa appication to go through so I can move up there (all my stuff is already up there.. I'm just stuck here... waiting).
Long distance/online relationships aren't for everyone, but the are becomming more common. The fact is, the internet is bringing together people who may never have met without it, whether it is through a game, or chat room or online personals.

well there is always that one guy at a wedding that makes a complete ass out of himself and everyone whispers "God who invited him" and the bride always gets onto the groom for inviting them.
Since that didn't happen at the wedding I guess Pilsbury felt it his obligation to be "that guy", so grats to you and once again GRATS TO MIKE AND ANGELA!
and may you raise little buddha's of your own. (private joke - vegas people should get it =) )

I think you guys misunderstood. I don't mean to question his actions. I merely want to ask him a question....
Legenae did a good post....I understand that totally. I'd have a lot more in common with an EQ player then a random person in a bar. I still can't see myself doing so...
I still have one question for her....same as the the couple that tied the knot (if they were long distance also)...did you meet eachother a lot IRL before you realized where it might be headed? Or did you do most of it on-line?
It's just curiosity....not a criticism.
I hope the orginal poster understands...some of us wonder how this stuff works...and ask legitimate questions. Others try to turn it into the usual flame fest. You make your call on who is more inappropriate.

Life is for living be happy

Quick answer to Pils questions.
We met on-line. She originally lived in Michigan and I was in California. However, we played together in groups for a long while and just chatted. At one point, we continued the relationship outside of EQ and began emailing. It was a lot of everyday stuff about jobs, interests etc. We found through chatting we had many common experiences and interests. Phone calls began between us. We ended up meeting when I took a trip out to Michigan. Then we followed up seeing each other at a Fan Faire. By that point, we pretty much knew we clicked and began to plan trips to see each other. That went on for about 9 months or so. Then she made the decision to move west for job, school, and our relationship. We have lived about 8 miles away from each other for about 14 months prior to getting married.
My opinion is that meeting someone online is not for everyone. It does take a lot of effort to keep things going and getting to know someone. However, if you are interested, you make the time to do it. That is what we did. Also, it helped that when we met each other, we just knew what we were to each other. It was like a freight train hitting me. I knew I had to be with her.
