College... $80,000
Law School... $124,000
Busting up the Old Boy's Club... Priceless?
No, what's priceless is that with over $200,000 of education you still can't use an apostrophe properly. lol
I think women deserve a better spokesperson.

well in her defense I doubt many ivy league educated attorneys would busy themselves with dressing up like slob and protesting augusta.
she probably has half a liberal arts degree.
I don't neccesarily disagree with gender only clubs for certain things, but I think augusta could use a bit of a kick in the ass and a "welcome to post 1950's north america, shitheads" sign.
I do my weights at a woman's only fitness club now because I got sick and tired of guys that treated it like their own personal combination gym/dating service. I also used to work at a men's only cigar club a few years ago and didn't have a problem with that (except for getting my ass pinched 20x a day). Sometimes its nice to go someplace where you can just be with your own gender. However augusta doesn't want women on the course "just because we like it that way." That's retarded and there's no logical reason for it, but neither am I going to lose any sleep over it.
However protesting about it is perfectly valid in my view because it is one of those things where voting with your dollars isn't going to change anything. Augusta already doesn't want their dollars.

Pilsburry, what the hell are you talking about? Do you honestly believe that the goal of protesters is to piss you off for no other reason? Admittedly there are some protests which are designed to inconvenience citizens in order to make them think, but keep in mind that these protests are also generally illegal, and are very rare as a percentage of the whole.
I don't give a fuck what the most common defenses used by protesters are. I'm talking about what the accurate defenses of protesting are. The right to pursuit of happiness is not a valid defense of anything, anywhere, according to both the legal framework of our country and the judicial system. Freedom of speech is a valid defense of protesting, it just doesn't happen to coincide with the points that I am making here.
I'm really not sure what your point is. The only thing I can see is that you're opposing civil disobedience, which is much different than protesting. If that's the case, then I'm not sure why we're arguing, other than the fact that I'm not sure you're able to differentiate between the two.

Protests are often acts of civil disobedience IMHO a march is a march, a protest is something bit scaled up from something like that.
I think if Augusta's owners want it to be men's only...it's thier right to make it mens only. If they wish to exclude blacks or asains, that's fine too. They OWN it.
Hell there are all black schools and scolarships etc right? Ones that exclude whites? And as you said there are female only gyms etc...where women go to avoid men drooling on them as they work out. If ANY business in america can deny access to someone, then the rest can too...otherwise it just isn't fair. Can you imagine if someone tried to start a "whitey college fund" wow....but it's ok to have a "Negro college fund". WTF? How is that remotely fair?
Personally I would service everyone....there is a larger target market and therefor more opportunities for $$$. But that's just me.
IMHO a private business is like a private residence...and you can't force your way into it.
Get members to sign a petition if that doesn't work and you have enough signatures to come close, you have all your husbands join and then sign. Otherwise you stay home.
What some people here don't understand is a golf club that is mens only is sometimes where husbands go to get away from it all....if you allow wives on the course then you just ruined thier primary reason for belonging to a club.
How would you like it if you owned a business and a bunch of people came in and told you you couldn't run it that way?
Let's say a bunch of teen movie actors start a night club where they all chip in a monthly fee but it's limited to maybe 100 members. They bult the club so they could hang out without all the paparazzi etc....
Then some fuckhead who works for the National Tattler or some shit says "I have $1000, you have to let me in as a member"
NO. I don't think anyone has access to a business establishment.
Augusta is men's only, it's been that way for a long ass time, if the members want it to remain that way...then so be it.
Personally I'm against it preventing access to women.....if I was married I'd want my wife to come play with me.....but I just think it's thier right to deny access.

Women can and do have access to play there as guests. So the only thing they cannot do is become a paying member of the club.

Then what is the big deal?
Have your husband buy the membership...duh.
The only people this stops from being members is lesbians and single women....and they can come as guests still.
Can the wives of members come alone? Or do they need to come with thier husband?
Still same thoughts apply....if they own thier club they have the right to deny access to anyone for any reason.

That is pretty rough. Not quite as bad as Ms. magazine misspelling the word Feminist on the cover a decade or so ago, but close
