This is about the worst cover ever made. Absolute muck. Mark Ronson is an embarrasment to British music.
The version of the song is so-so, but I think the video is actually quite clever.

I really like Michael Buble, he has a good voice, great stagepresence and his phrasing is awesome. It's mostly this song I'm on the fence about in a rather odd way. On one hand it really lifts a song that's a little hampered by Cohen's extremely deadpan delivery in the original, on the other hand it's a little weird and Cesar's Palace-y in his version. I dunno.

Hmmm, I am not sure myself. Early on in the song I was only so-so but as he got into it more as the song went on I thought it worked better. I'll have to listen to it some more.
I think Cohen's version of the song on Cohen Live is better than the studio version. Still pretty deadpan, but a little more life to it.
Have you heard the Elton John version of it? It was one that I wasn't too sure of originally but I like it now, but definitely a different take.
Elton John - I'm Your Man
And speaking of Leonard Cohen covers. I LOVE this version of The Future by Teddy Thompson off the I'm Your Man soundtrack.

Since I put one of Toby's originals in the other thread I figured I would post her cover of Mary J Blige's Real Love here.

To expand on the "Add a cool song" thread, I thought I'd start a "Add a Cool Cover/Version" thread. I was making a covers playlist and thought it'd be interesting to hear some covers I hadn't heard of yet.
Here are my first contributions:
White Lies covering Kanye West's Love Lockdown

M. Ward doing Let's Dance

Oh snap! I posted on that thread and don't remember it in the slightest. I do agree with myself wholeheartedly that Eva Cassidy's Fields of Gold is fucking brilliant.
Merge please?

Joe Cocker's cover of "With a Little Help From My Friends" by The Beatles. Not many voices out there carry as much emotion as Joe.

I can't take Joe Cocker's cover seriously. The first time I heard (of) it was as the theme song to Wonder Years (when I was like 10 or 11) and that's how I relate to it. Nothing about a theme song says "take me seriously" to me... =\

He recorded it about 20 years before The Wonder Years, but I can see how most people of a certain age would relate the two that way. I'm a bit older, and I never realized that Joe Cocker was anything other than a singer of movie theme songs for the longest time, thanks to Officer and a Gentleman heh. I'm not a huge fan of his, but this is one of maybe a handful of his songs that I like. He did a cover of "Let it Be" that's decent also.

Everyone always says it was a great show, but I have to take their word for it since I never watched it. I don't think I've ever seen more than a few minutes of it. I wasn't watching a lot of TV at that time in my life, at least not prime-time network TV.

Oh, I know that *now*. But as I said, I was 10 or 11 when Wonder Years came out in the late 80's, and at that age, I wasn't listening to much Joe Cocker. =P At that age, I hadn't even heard the original.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I was mainly commenting on how I thought it was funny that at ~9 years older, I thought he was a douchey movie theme singer until I got older and exposed to more music heh. This was much in the same way that I didn't realize Kenny Loggins had ever done anything but crappy movie soundtracks.

Great cover - but I like this one even more:
Joe Cocker doing "Feelin' Alright"
Here's a video I blundered into while watching some Cramps videos. I don't know this band at all (I guess they're from Argentina), but I was blown away by their sound - especially the pipes on the lead singer:
Taboo - "These Boots Were Made for Walking"
