I, of course, play both 40k and fantasy, though my focus of late has been Fantasy. My 40k armies are:
16k Eldar, 99% assembled, 85% painted, though not better than table top
6k Tau, 99% assembled, 80% painted
7k Tyranids, all assembled, 95% painted (this is my main army of late)
7k Grey Knights, assembled, traded some stuff to a guy to paint them for me to make them tournament level

My wife (Quyrean) has:
6k Sisters of Battle, 99% assembled, 95% painted (I won Games Day with her army a couple years back)
15k+ Orks, less than 30% assembled, less than 20% painted (her favorite army)

We also share:
8k Necrons (all assembled, just need detail painting)

Fantasy Side, my wife has a 4k Orc army completely painted.
I have assembled (but not painted):
5k Wood Elves (Tree army, current painting project)
8k Brettonians
4k Mortal Chaos (Khorne)
I have painted:
4k Mortals of Slaanesh
9k Daemons of Chaos
9k Beasts of Chaos
6k Lizardmen (need detailing and basing still)

We also share a Zombie Pirate Armie we built together for fun one time.

While we certainly dumped a pile of cash on the hobby, most of it was bought up at fire sale like things where stuff was 25% cost or less, a lot at Jadeco in WI who buy bankruptcy stock from failed gaming stores and the like. A lot also came from tournament winnings, of course. If you guys are in SoCal, feel free to look me up. I play at the Battle Bunker in Westminster a lot and also help run the SoCal GW league (scgwl.com) which runs a couple Grand Tournaments each year.

I have 5ish squads + 2 HQ to paint! (one of those squads being harlequins which have proven to be about as enjoyable to paint as shoving razorblades in one's eyes).

Yeah, Blood Bowls great, think its coming out for xbox live this September!

Yeah been playing a lot of that too. My amazon team is my favorite, but I have a Nurgle team this season in the league I am in that is a lot of fun.

After much thought, I'm getting back into the hobby. I detailed out which models I already own for making a Blood Angels army, and I was kind of shocked to learn I have 75% of all troop types de-sprued and ready to be glued and painted, about 90% of all the special characters, 3 unassembled vehicles (rhino and landraider), 2 unpainted Dreds, and an unassembled landspeeder. I also have all of my Space Hulk termies. All I need to purchased is 1-2 boxes each of the new Death Company and Sanguinary Guard just to kit bash with my existing minis. So, for about 150$ I get to finish off an entire army I've had laying around for over a decade.
