I am going to Jailbreak 3.0 tomorrow evening, if nothing else just to get iBlacklist again.

Biggest improvement for me is stereo bluetooth. It was a huge deal for me. I went out and grabbed some new light stereo blutooth headphones. So nice!

There are little things you'll notice.

Podcasts, for example, now have a 30 sec rewind button on the main screen which is nice. There's also a toggle button for podcast, allowing you to change the speed to 2X or .5 x . Listening to podcasts 2X speed (audio pitch adjusted so no chipmunking) is great for those long podcasts where there's good info to be had but the podcasters are a little long winded. I can now pack in twice as many podcasts a week!

Still havent played much with 3.0 yet but am liking the little things. also, copy/paste rocks. I used it the other day for an SMS message, copied a URL from Safari. Worked great.

Keep that link Winnow posted to the already modified FW handy. I tried the normal upgrade/jailbreak and it didn't work. I could only get it working with that FW posted above that's already broken. I didn't get any failures, but Cydia wouldn't run right, and it wouldn't update properly no matter what. That and I never got the pineapples.

Anyway, just saying..

Ultrasn0w has been released for 3.0 to unlock the iPhone. I applied it to mine, but don't know how to tell if it worked or not other than I didn't get any error messages. Since I'm on AT&T I can't check it if works with another provider. *shrug* MMS or Tethering options didn't show up, so who knows.

Instructions:

Ultrasn0w for iPhone 3G is ready!

1. Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0
2. Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy)
3. Run Cydia or Icy
4. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or Icy. That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.
5. Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia or icy and install ultrasn0w
6. Reboot your iPhone 3G
7. T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w
8. Enjoy

Why are you using Ultrasnow if you have AT&T acct? What benefit would that have for you?

As far as I can tell, that's only needed if you use another carrier.

So if I have AT&T and a PC (no Mac here), I should use RedSn0w correct?

Which one would I use (or would be the best to use) for an iTouch?

You probably want to read this article:

redsn0w = jailbreak
ultrasn0w = unlock to use on any carrier

Reason I wanted it, even though I'm on AT&T, is that sometime in the future I may need to change. Also, should I want to sell it I can sell it as unlocked.

Has anyone else noticed that since upgrading to 3.0 the responsiveness of the OS is much slower? For example, the camera seems to take MUCH longer to open up (3-5+ seconds) where it seemed almost instantaneous with 2.2.1 running.

And maybe it's the games themselves, but games like to crash a lot too. Tiger Woods for example. Maybe it's just a bad crack or something, I don't know. And yeah, I always free up memory before launching them.. NFS worked well and never crashed on me but stuff like The Sims (never get more than 5 minutes before it poofs) and Tiger Woods crash too frequently to bother playing.

I have the cracked Tigers Woods and it hasn't crashed on me. Nothing seems slower to me using OS 3 either.

Not sure if you unlocking a legit phone would do anything to slow things down.

I can't remember if I already answered this question in the past, but the volume for the iPhone is adjustable in SETTINGS under the SOUNDS options.

There's a volume slider there. It defaults to low (meaning max volume is lower then the max possible) due to some pussy Euro ear protection law. If you go into settings and crank that volume slider to the right, your speaker and headphone audio will be louder.

I didn't think to do this after upgrading to OS 3.0. Peeps might want to check this setting is the volume seems low to you.

Thanks for the tip! The low volume has been bothering me since switching to 3.0!
