I experienced the same thing as Adex at an early age. I was brought up to respect firearms. I was told what they can do to a person. I was shown what they can do with gallon jugs of water. I was taught to treat every gun as if it were loaded, no matter how sure you are that it is not.
Rant all you want about gun accidents. Education = safety. Keeping kids away from guns only makes them curious about them if they find one.
Do you put rat poison out without telling your 4 year old what it is and what will happen if she eats it?
Do you leave your 5 year old in the car with the engine running while you go shopping?
