All DC not Batman was horrid.

Spiderman and Daredevil rule because they explored the pscyhe of the characters instead of just bashing the bad guys.

Then came Spawn and put them all to shame.

After it was all said and done, it come down to the writers about which was best and when. Some great titles sucked for a long time due to lack of good writing.

Its been said, but Frank Miller is easily the best writer in the Genre from the 70s onward.

Yea I started to update the list, but there are hundreds of options. Just state your fav, and how they could defeat the Hulk. I read a few issues of Hulk vs Thor, their very first meeting ended in a stalemate because Hulk got bored, and once the old Hulk was not mad, he did not want to fight. Another meeting they had, Hulks powers were pumped and Thor had to choke him out, it took like 6 days for Hulk to pass out lol. And yet another meeting, I think Hulk punched Thor into the sun. If Hulk can stay concious long enough to get super mad (his strength increases exponentially with his anger) he would be nearly unstoppable. One series Apocolypse chose Hulk as one of his Horsemen and increased his powers...Hulk eliminated most all of the super heroes on the planet.

Mine has to be Sandman of the endless. There was nothing that could compete with Neil Gaiman's imagination for storylines month in and month out. For normal type comics it would have to be Gally from Battle angel Alita or maybe Thanos during the Infinity Gauntlet days.

Frank Miller created comics for adults with intense storylines.

Spawn was one badass.

Green Lantern -- which one? Kyle or Hal? Hal > Kyle as a GL.

Hope the upcoming Daredevil movie is good.

Thanos was actually kind of a dumbass when he didn't have that fancy glove with all the gems on, although one of my favorite comics was when he killed almost every superhero, but somehow it didn't really happen or something.

Venom was and will always be my favorite character. He was 100% badass plain and simple, and he actually had an interesting story. His creation after the secret wars, the secret rivalry between him and spiderman who started off as co-workers, and that 15-inch tongue that drove all the wimmenz crazy... if I ever had a role model as a kid it was Eddie Brock. :o

Racheal Summers as The Phoenix

I thought Jean Gray was the Phoenix. Perhaps I'm remembering it wrong.

Jean Grey was the first Phoenix but Racheal Summers is from an Alternate Timeline and is the daughter of Jean and Scott in that timeline.

Racheal escaped to this timeline we all know since in her's she was a hound or a tracker for mutants =)

I guess that poll is limiting itself to Marvel comics, so I chose Spiderman. Spiderman was so freakin' cool back in the day. Venom was a badass, too. I stopped reading Spiderman when they introduced Carnage, a skinny little freak who could somehow beat up Venom. No fuckin' way I was buying that.

As for DC Comics, Superman is and always will be the greatest superhero ever. Superman is the pimpest of all pimps. Much <3 for Christopher Reeve as Superman, especially in Superman II.

Fuck spiderman and batman, Xzion has to be the most badass superhero. He can blow shit up and do lots of damage, he can summon elemental dudes to help him fight, he has a damage shield so everytime someone fucks with him they get hurt too…and he can summon people to his feet. On the downside though he can not type.

It's been years since I have read any comic books but I'd have to say that Thanos was, by far, my favorite character. This guy was diabolical to the core....fearless and cunning and always looking for ways to become all-powerful, which he succeeded in doing for a short time. The Infinity Gauntlet was the most incredible comic book story I had ever read.

Posted: January 31, 2003, 2:13 am
by Momopi
For those who liked Infinity Gauntlet I would recommend Thanos's Quest the 2 part mini series on how he got each gem needed for the gauntlet. Then in Silver Surfer #50 which was the prelude to Infinity Gauntlet. I also strongly recommend the series Sandman by Neil Gaiman from DC comics. The stories are second to none.

Since we've moved on from Superheroes in the traditional sense, I'd want to highlight stuff like Preacher, Jamie Delano's run on Hellblazer, Allan Moore's SWAMP THING and Grant Morrison's The Invisibles.

Favorite Marvel: Franklin Richards - There's just so much they can do with him, and if they follow the EarthX story arch, he's Galactus, who's just one of the most badass tormented characters in their galaxy.

Fav DC: (Going with Pure DC, not the subsidiary companies that I'll mention later) - Has to be Batman. No one can beat him, no one can outsmart him, and no one can write him like Frank Miller.

Wildstorm: The whole WildCATS team. Just a great standalone storyline.

Image - The Maxx - because I hate McFarlaine.

Cliffhanger - Every title was great, but Alex from Crimson stood above them ALL.

Joe's Comics - The Poet from Rising Stars. For anyone who liked The Watchmen, Joe Strazynski (the creator/writer for Babylon 5) created a series based on the idea of a few individuals granted extraordinary powers, each unique, and each bound by the power, so that with the death of one, the others became more powerful. Great story. Probably my favorite series.

Online strips: Sinfest - just because it's hilarious. (http://www.sinfest.net)

Witchblade rules

Not Marvel or DC. Top Cow is my current favorite.

Image

Fabled throughout legend, revered as a religious icon, and spoken of in hushed whispers, the Witchblade has existed throughout the ages. Though many have tried to possess this mysterious gauntlet and exploit its power, it can only be possessed by one woman in each generation... and nobody chooses who may wield the Witchblade.

Except the Witchblade itself.

The carnage Symbiot (sp) was a mutation from Venom, He could form bladed weapons and what was unique about him was the ability to shoot shards of himself at spidey and Venom, I'm not sure if he can use his costume to swing around though, gotta check that out... The thing I love about Venom is he is a vigalantee, he takes out the bad guys who threaten the innocents, but if someone tried to stop him (good guys) he would open the whole can of whoop ass on them.

I believe Thor's avatar was a crippled Lawyer and when he rapped his cane on the ground he turned into Thor.

A buddy of mine is a Superhero Junkie he's got a slew of the comics in boxes and he told me Marvel created Hulk as a ballance to DC's Superman, someone who could beat him.

When they had the marvel/dc crossover, Superman knocked the merged Hulk out. I guess if he was going to defeat the hulk, they had to have it happen while Hulk was not the savage Hulk, that way fans *like me* have something to fall back on as a handicap. I hated it. Although Superman was quite battered after the fight, the guy that actually killed Superman *forgot his name* was much more azzbeat than the merged hulk, and opened a can on Superman. I am not even sure if the savage Hulk could defeat that guy. He ripped Sups to shreds.

Damn, I forgot that guys name Man.... I do know he had Reed Richards kid in suspended animation in a tank hanging on his back though.... my friend told me his name but I can't think of it atm.... Savage Hulk did stop him though.... I'm pretty sure that's the reason the other heros allowed the Savage Hulk to emerge.

I'll post the dude's name Later on, it's too early to call my friend :P

Doomsday was the guy who killed Superman (and some other crappy DC superheros)

Wolverine was my favorite...I remember I had this What If... comic where this 7 headed serpent thing turned like half the superheros into snake-headed guys and they fought against each other. It was pretty cool seeing em kill each other.

His name was Doomsday.....

*Doomsday has the power to regenerate after being killed by an opponent. When regenerated, Doomsday has gained immunity to the previous cause of death.*

That's why he owns Superman.

I read The Death of Superman but I don't remember how they ever got rid of Doomsday. Didn't they like shoot him into outer space and just let him drift?

ONSLAUGHT... that was the dude's name with the Richards baby in the tank.... he pretty much romped through the Marvel universe and destroyed everyone, I'm gonna get the comics from my friend and check it out.

Ahhhh...finally something I can talk about:)

Marvel: Gambit, definitely. Even if he was a stock 'style' character of the 90's, they did a lot with him, not all I agree with, but who can control crappy writers?

DC: See my pic.. not exactly a superhero, but John Constantine rules! Conman, sorceror, asshole all in one. Ready and abuse and use anyone, friend or foe to save the world or himself. Countless times he's tossed his friends in the crossfire without nary a care and still wins in the end. And besides who else can say they gave Lucifer the finger?:)

Nothing will ever match Sandman month in and month out, I was worried I wasn't even going to find a Sandman post in this thread. I would probably not say Morpheus, instead John Constantine. The cynic that cannot resist a call for help. The outsider that battles against any authority, including both God and the Devil.

My all time fave has got the be the everlovin' blue eyed Thing ... with John Byrne's Next Ment and Mike Mignola's Hellboy up there as well. I loved the Legends brand.

And Krimson, as to whom to beat the Hulk, well it would be one of the Things teamates, Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman. Cripes the woman practically killed a Celestial by herself. But here's how she could kill the Hulk, and maybe anyother superhero,

1. She could cut off their air supply with an invisible bubble and let em suffocate. Er read about taking the Hulk 6 days to be choked out, this would be a bit different I'd think.

or ..

2. She create's a small marble/bee-bee/watch battery/pin-head sized force bubble, launch it into the Hero's mouth or nose .. force it down or up. When its in the right spot, all she has to do is expand it till the person blows up. BOOM dead Hero.

With either one Sue Storm could take out most if not all of the hero's out there, but their would be some that would be able to go on. Not many, just some.

I think all Marvel characters owe Reed Richards (stretch from Fantastic Four) a big thanks for inventing the material that makes up the indestructable superhero costumes that everyone wears. Without that stuff, most of the heroes would have to run around naked (human torch would burn up his uniform...reed richards not being ablt to stretch his body without ripping up his clothes,....i'm not sure how the Hulk keeps his pants on everytime he changes into the monster....*ponders*

I thought Preacher was cool when I was 15. Looking back it is kind of immature and stupid though.. You may think it's not much a revelation that a comic book is immature and stupid, but it's because the creators were trying not to make an immature and stupid graphic novel.

The vampire guy was a tad over the top. Yeah okay he is a vampire, but does he have to be an australian nihilistic poet goth raver sociopathic anarchist vampire?

It was a good idea, but it read like a good idea conceived by creative people and implemented by 16 year old boys that listen to too much Slipknot.

Its kinda tough for me to post an opinion here, because the 30 or so years since the last time I read a comic book, have been taxing my memory. I do remember Jughead though
