It doesn't take much to piss you off.
You have anger issues.

LOL YEAH IM SURE A HYPOCRITE!!1
The difference is I'd rather not deal with the constant shit slinging, name calling, etc - I get zero enjoyment out of it... But if you guys are going to make it a point to piss me off at every step, I might as well return the favor.
Since failing at quitting this place the last (third?) time, you've stated multiple times that the only reason you come here is to piss off/annoy all of us and ruin this place so noone wants to come here anymore.
But uhh, nice try...
What don't you get dude? You guys wanna wreck my fun and spout off everytime I post, I'm going to strike back. What I don't understand is how someone's life is so pathetic that they get their kicks out of getting a rise out of someone, I've never gotten a answer from anyone here to that question.
Wow, you still don't get it?
Let me spell it out for you...
ANSWER YOUR OWN QUESTION. You're asking us why we do the exact same thing you do. Why don't you ask yourself why you do it, cause that's the same reason we do it.
For someone who has proclaimed to be smarter than anyone else here (multiple times), you're dumb as hell.

We respond to you not in a deliberate effort to piss you off, we do it to try and get you to understand that you're a fucking idiot and you should probably change your ways or educate yourself or shuffle off this mortal coil. However, you readily admit over and over again that, since we bother you, you're going to be an asshole on purpose. Then you say you can't understand why someone would be an asshole on purpose. Does that help illustrate what an idiot you are? Can you see that?
Please note: my intention here is not solely to be an asshole or to "get my kicks out of getting a rise out of" you. My intention is to cause you to have a moment of introspection, however fleeting, in which you might realize that changing yourself might be good. Try not to spit on people who accidentally do minor damage to your car, try not to call your opinions facts, try not to end a good number of your posts with "[insert people you don't like] should be fucking shot", try not to be annoying only for the sake of being annoying. Good little changes that you could make in your life.
But you won't.

You're the one missing the point. 98% of the time it's not me to start the name calling and bullshit. I am a pissed off person, I don't like people, I don't like society, and knowing that people like nick are allowed to live
infuriates
me.
However, don't flatter yourself by thinking that the way I act is for you, for anyone else here, or for you assholes as a whole. That you don't like the type of person I am doesn't mean you have to constantly attack me or make me a target everytime I say something - it takes the fun out of posting for me, and I don't go out of my way to annoy people here for my own enjoyment.
The point you keep fucking dodging is I've specifically heard a good majority of you that these comments are directed at say that you do the shit just to get a reaction out of me - that is pathetic beyond belief, and not on my part.
I don't care if you think changing myself would be good, I don't care if you don't think the way I am is ok/cool/whatever. I am content being angry and being exactly the way I am, because I
hate most people, they make me sick, and that makes me even more mad.

Funk,
I think the reason it seems like the world is against you here is threefold.
1. Many folks here dislike you (you know who they are) because you have set yourself up as the representation of their ideological enemy. It doesn't take much to set you off.
2. You called out "IT people" and declared your hatred of them. Many people on this board are or have been or sympathize with "IT people".
3. You refuse to recognize valid arguments.
I'm in the latter two camps. However, I started out my career as a technical support representative for CompuServe and was still doing some level of second tier support for the company as Windows 95 and the Internet boom hit. I understand your frustration with "one browser" policies and your desire to explore and understand new technologies and their impact on your customers (and your job). I spent countless hours doing much the same back in the early/mid 90s.
That said, I know that IT Managers (and the ever present IT Security folks behind the scenes) have a very difficult job supporting the company's software platform (both OS and Apps) and restricting new browser (and other network-aware) technology is a must until it's impact is assessed and understood. The fact that you can even install your applications at all says that your IT Managers are far from the "Nazis" you paint them to be, as many enterprises (and even small companies) take advantage of the ability to lock down desktops.
IT Managers were absolutely correct to block the download or installation of the Google Chrome Browser. You can be mad at them if you want to (I'm sure they're not losing sleep over this). There are enough risks to the stability of the work platforms we take for granted without allowing an untested application in the door. If it proves to be the second coming, it will find it's way in eventually and with testing... the safe and accepted way.
Back on topic: I rewatched "The Website Is Down" last night. It doesn't lose it's impact with familiarity. I still laugh my ass off when the guy's boss calls him.

I have no problem with any of what you said for the most part man, that's the part of this I think people seem to be missing.
The IT department here is not your average department I'd say, skill and knowledge wise. The IT guys have had to have me test shit for them many times in the past because they couldn't figure something out on their own. They come to ME with questions - not all the time, but enough to question whether they should really be doing the jobs they are doing.
An example, our "DB Admin" (we have two, and they are equally as worthless, but I will use this one as an example.) I went to him with a complex sql script I had written to see if there was anything we could change about it to optimize it, because it was going to take hours to run and would probably just eventually lock the DB. He spent THREE HOURS on this, most of which he was trying to figure out what I had written because apparently he doesn't understand SQL very well.. He then sent me back his "modified version" of my script, in which (out of like a 75 line script) he changed like one LIKE statement to a IN statement. He passed it off like it would help tons, when in reality it changed nothing - the script still locked the DB and got killed.
Another example is the MANAGER of the department not understanding something simple like the simple reasons why we shouldn't support a OS that Microsoft doesn't even support anymore. I finally did convince him of that, but it took way more talking than it should have. The IT department has had me test multiple things because they don't know what to look for - including testing Vista when it came out to see how compatible it was with our product, testing IE7 when it came out, and testing multiple versions of our VPN client to maximize user efficiency.
I guess a lot of the problem I have with this Google Chrome thing is the blatant hypocrisy they are displaying by saying that we need to support these browsers if people call in because they are having issues with our product working in them, but then telling us we can't install them on our machines because we don't support them. How am I supposed to field the questions the support reps have for me if I can't even install the goddamn browser to see what is actually happening?
Also, most of the users at the company have their computers locked down (no admin rights, etc.) The exception here being development (and a select few others), because they need to have them for a multitude of reasons.
As to your original 3 points at the beginning of your post:
1- That's fine. What I have said in the past and maintain now is that I feel it's extremely pathetic in every way that people get enjoyment out of getting a rise out of someone they don't know on a message board. If you don't agree with me, try stating it in a normal person way, instead of talking shit immediately, and maybe my reaction would be different and the environment would be more enjoyable for both parties. But that would be waayyyyy too easy.
2- In my experience, the vast majority of the IT people I have encountered have a severe issue with power trip. They are like the mall security of the technical world, and I have no respect for people like that, so why pretend?
3- That's simply not the case. I refuse to acknowledge anyone who doesn't go about making their point in a way I deem acceptable. If someone starts by running their mouth off and talking shit, I don't have much interest in taking them seriously. I think if you really looked, you would see that that is the case. This post is a perfect example.

There are good IT people and bad IT people. Good IT people realize they exist to help others accomplish things. Bad IT people believe users are scum, or have such a power trip that they demand control of everything that touches 'their' system. I've met many of both sides.
As an IT person, I didn't take offense to his 'I hate IT people' remark, because I hate some IT people too.
By the way I think a lot of you are, or are pretending to be, total idiots (mainly Xyun, Xatrei, Aslanna, and Nick)... Absolutely nothing has been accomplished by discussing anything with you, ever. You probably should split out the functionality of your SQL script--and make it a proc. Also don't use fucking LIKE operators. Nothing more annoying than people trying to create quasi-code out of SQL, which is not even an advanced programming language.
Here is a small list of shit that you don't want when dealing with a large dataset:
wildcards
non-specific operators (like, NOT IN)
overuse of cursors
excessive Left Outer joins, etc
Dealing with developers and qa people is like herding cats.

See, that's what I was going to the DB ADMIN for... That kind of feedback, but he couldn't even give me that. I have a pretty decent understanding of SQL, but I'm not the best, and I know I could learn, which was precisely what I was trying to do..

Oddly, this is how I feel (I won't speak for the others) about you, your tool brother, Funk, Sirton, Noysy and a few others around here. A simple search through some old posts here would reveal many times where I, and others, have attempted to engage you mouth-breathers on substance, yet you refuse to accept simple facts, statistics or evidence when presented, falling back instead on your relentlessly dogmatic and willfully ignorant beliefs. I gave up a long time ago trying to have any kind of serious interaction with you guys. On the other hand, I'll take the time to engage in a thoughtful discussion with people with whom I may ideologically disagree (in general or on a specific topic), but a few of you just aren't worthy of that effort.
You're like the lawyer in

Hmm, well he should have helped you out. Those are pretty obvious ones and even small changes can help performance. Also try to avoid using 'OR'.
Simple is better for SQL, whether it is T-SQL, PL/SQL, SQL+ or whatever. If gets too complex, consider using .NET code and calling stored procs when necessary.
And cheer up, getting stressed at work is pointless and not worth it health-wise.

I hope he's not one of the aformentionned Bad IT guys. (Then again, I'll take anything at this point to lighten my workload, I'm currently doing 2.5 people's jobs at a completely lousy salary compared to the average in this city for my position.
