but in all seriousness, as animated as it gets sometimes on messageboards and in game, it is nice to see that there are people who actually can maintain some personal balance with their approach to the game.

sure we are all guilty of taking our game identities too far to satisfy on some level or other a personal fantasy. We identify with our class, our guild, other like minded guilds and players. we also succumb to some silliness with regards to getting drawn into conflict with other players and guilds and so on. THis is no mystery and i'm not writing a dissertation or anything so silly . And hey there are a bunch of morons - or normal people who act like morons in the game.

All in all we all need to chill the fuck out though, more often than not

So, I started playing and subsequently joined CoE after Leyor had really stopped being a hardcore EQ player; however I had a lot of contact with him and he always seemed very nice and intelligent, if not a bit manipulative, but generally a nice enough guy. Why did people dislike him so much?

I understand there were some things with CD and joint PoP raids and such that caused bad blood; however it seems an overwhelming majority of people really didn't like him. I know CoE never really had a terrible reputation as a guild (at least in comparison to some), so why the leyor hate?

I think it was the "a bit manipulative" part, it was much worse in his earlier years and that was probably what pissed people off at him. Like you said, he was a nice enough and intelligent guy, the manipulation just annoyed people.
