Roughly how many people do you think you've heard say that? 5? 50? 500? And where are you seeing said people say such things? Keep in mind that even if you've heard personal accounts of 10,000 people saying they aren't "that type", that's only roughly .014% of the people on Myspace. And while the type of user that you describe certainly exists, I would hazard a guess that there are far more people that don't fit that stereotype than do.

I'm only defending it because I'm one of the people who doesn't feel like they're "that type"; I have only one person on there who I haven't met in real life, though I've known her for years from playing video games (and she's about to be removed due to her comments in this thread!). I've also caught up with several people that I hadn't seen or heard from in 5 or 10 years.

It's got the private messaging features of a message board like this one without limiting them to a specialized video game-centric site, the ability to find contact information for people you may have lost touch with (such as Classmates.com or one of those types of pay sites), I've been turned onto several musicians that I was unfamiliar with before someone I knew had a song embedded or a link to the artist's page, and I'm sure there are more uses that aren't readily available at the top of my head.

I don't know, it seems like a pretty decent resource to me...

I was referring more to the fact that when I hear someone mention myspace to me in person, or even online, there's always a negative tone that goes with it.

Refer to one of my previous messages - I stated that it has ton of benefits. I completely agree with you, these are GREAT features on the site, but at the same time there seem to be many negatives that bog down these benefits, mainly due to the users on the site, not the site itself. If you use the site legitimately, as you seem to, then more power to you my friend. I think it's great that you have quite a resource. But to the friend whoring 14 year olds that comment with hearts on every myspace page they see - what the hell?

I have been reading the forums on myspace and trying to figure out how to make one of the couple of mp3 players that people have designed work, but its really complicated and I got frustrated with it last night.

If you can figure those out, and host an mp3 somewhere (I found a free site with 500mb storage) you can have an mp3 player on your page with as many songs in it as you want.

Using the default single song mp3 player that is on your page, if you go into edit profile, and click on profile songs or whatever the tab is, there is a box you can uncheck so that the song you have will not start up automatically.

I just removed the myspace player and set up the XSPF Web Music Player on my page. Was pretty easy to do, and now I can put a playlist of my own songs up there. All you need is an easily-created spiff playlist and some webspace to hold your mp3 files.

You can even set whether or not to autoload/play your playlist. I chose the annoying faggot route.

Everyone at work has a page so I decided to join in the fun.
