I installed Guild Wars again last weekend and ended up starting a Necromancer/Mesmer character.
My old level 10 Elementalist/Ranger was still on my character select screen.
I'm still amazed by the graphics of this game even two years later. It's well worth the 19.99 it sells for now at stores if you've never played.
Playing a Necro, I realized how wimpy my Elementalist was. With all the hp/energy leeching skills, you can cruise through the lower levels nonstop.
The first page of this thread has some good reviews of what the game is like.
One thing I don't want to do this time is figure out what drops salvage into what tailoring/armor components so using the Guild Wars Wiki helps speeds things along without ruining the fun:

They made Razah more accessible in Nightfall, anything else?
I went back and started a new character (my first only made it to level 10, 20 is the max, same for all expansions, it's about skills and attributes)
I met a nice Ranger, joined their guild later, that ran me through half the zones so I could start working on some higher level armor sets while I level up and do the missions. the GW Wiki is an excellent source of info and the veterans seem pretty helpful overall.
The guild house is nice that I'm in. Basically all the merchants, skills, dye traders, materials merchants, etc are available in your guild so you don't have to run around.
I'm having fun doing the missions using henchmen to fill out my party. The world is huge. 100+ zones I think in the original Prophecies game that I have atm.
I'm impressed with the variety of possible builds for each class.
Check the spells just for necro's alone:
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Necromance ... _reference
can make three totally different Necro's if specializing in Blood Magic, Curses or Death Magic. Having a second class adds quite a bit more to the possibilities although i've concentrated on the Necro skills so far.
I like that attribute points may be switched around anytime outside of a mission so you can go from Death Magic Necro to Blood Magic with a few clicks and loading up the appropriate skills.
Having played the Elementalist up through level 10 slowly, the difference between the classes makes for lots of replayability.
That you can easily play solo with henchmen or in a player group makes the game easy to get into.
I love the colors and graphics in the game. So vivid. Nice change from some of the greyish/brown themed games out there. The details of the characters show their two year age but the level design, artwork/creativity and textures themselves are still my favorite in any game.
As I thought it would be, it's a great game to play every so often with the free online play making that part easy as well...you don't sit there and wonder if you should cancel the monthly sub or not and just enjoy it when you have time.
The missions are satisfying. The last one I ran, had me fending off a Char attack and then finding parts for a catapult that launched a fireball at the gathered enemy afterwards...the nice part is that it wasn't a cut scene, but actively done within the game.
Perfect game for those that want to play a game with plenty of content and ways to tweak your character (or secondary characters) for variety. Can get burned out on it as with any game for sure.
Working on my Scar Armor: (dyed green)

Carrying around a powder keg, looking for a dwarf gate to blow up:

I just like the overall style of the game and what NCSoft does with most of their games (Lineage II, CoH/CoV)

The cut scenes they do have are well done: (and can skip them if needed!)

The game has stood the test of time with lots of people still in the original zones.

Haha yes Winnow, i know that, i've completed Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall.
I assume you never got Factions nor Nightfall?
I was just wondering if they've added something new recently. Havent' played GW since NF release (completing NF was quicker than Factions for me, which was much quicker than Proph)
Maybe some new Elite Missions etc?
Last time i heard they made Razah more accessible, but since you played it recently i thought you had some good info about new stuff!

Didn't know you were a Guild Wars expert Kwon! i'm thinking of getting Nightfall next instead of Factions. Seems better for story/solo play. I have long ways to go in the original though.

Not sure about the expansion, but i'll prolly grab GW 2 when it's released.
Henchmen system in Nightfall is great, since you can choose your own skillsets for them.
Olias or Master of Secrets for example could be used as great MinionMasters, much better than the majority of the human Necros
With both Sousuke and Zhed with Searing Flames, things could get heated VERY quickly, they were actually much better (faster reaction and higher dps) with only 2 spells on their skillbar instead of the full 8.
Jin with Broad Head Arrow and Choking Gas made things very easy, not having to wait for a mesmer in the party, if i really needed interrupts, i'd use Jin and Zhed working as Elem/Mesmer.
Was a fun game!

Kwon is hot!
Here's the 200+ page original Primus Guild Wars Guide for anyone that would like to look at the pretty art and check out a mission walk through or two to see what they're like. No cheating though! There's no expansion info in it.

I know that! My last post said for "anyone" to use, like the penny tray by the register at a store.Kwonryu DragonFist wrote:I don't need this Win! I've completed ALL!
I scanned through the guide a bit last night. Besides looking nice, it's well done. I'm using it to find the missions with the Necro skill drops, similar to using Wiki to find what the mob drops will salvage into so I don't throw something I might need away or sell it. It doesn't ruin the fun of the game but cuts out some of the running around to merchants and NPCs.

Raked across the guts by the Pestilent Claw of Doom!
(made that up. It's just an off-hand stat modifier item)

Win!

Good point. This game could easily be stand alone.Dregor Thule wrote:I'd be more interested in playing this game if it wasn't an online one. Being able to play it independant of an internet connection or possibly over a LAN would be best.
I suppose online is necessary to prevent pirating for one thing. The game also downloads content as you need it. The first time I zoned into the guild hall, it downloaded the entire zone which was quite large, but at least you get that stuff on the fly, along with updates and some added material that isn't part of an expansion. The character select screen has been updated since I originally bought the game in 2005 to add stats and features from expansions even if you don't have them. You can turn off all channels (trade, shout, guild, team, emotes, etc) so it would be like you were playing by yourself except for some really lively NPCs running around in towns that were real people. Everything else can be instanced with NPC henchmen on your team.
I only talk to the person I'm in a guild with which has been very helpful and on vary rare occasions if I need to buy some crafting materials and want to pay less than what the merchants sell them for.
