It's required in california. I got a fix-it ticket for not havng one in santa cruz about 3 years ago.

Front plates are required in TX too. Not had one on the 2 Trans Ams I had between 97 and 2003, nor on my RX-8. Looks tooooo ugly. Esp on the 8.
