I'd say the semi's (Dallas v San Antonio) were the finals. Thankfully that won't be happening next year, or ever again.

4pt plays make me happy in the pants. Go Mavs!

Well, it's not over yet, but it sure looks like this will wind up tied 2-2.

Hey Winnow, how many games did the Suns take from the Mavs again? Was it more than 2?

shhh. winnow still has a shot at thinking the suns are actually the number 2 team. who am i joking, they will be the number 2 team whether or not the mavs actually win.

Im not very happy with Dallas right now , When they were up 2-0 they should of shut up and play ball and for Cuban to come out and say the shit he did about Riley was uncalled for. Why wake a sleeping Tiger you had them dead in the water now its a best of 3 series. Damnit Damnit Damnit.

D-Wade is over the flu he had when the series started too. Should have put the Heat away while he wasn't 100%.

Wade looks unstoppable, In the last three games he is avg. 40pts of course the last game he had 21 trips to the frre throw line. I guess when you can drive the lane and push off of multiple people all night and night get called for a foul your as good as gold.

He's amazing to watch. He was struggling early, but with the Heat down by 9 at the end of the 3rd Qtr, he just made 5 quick pts and a dish to Posey for a 3, capping an 8-0 run to finish the 3rd.

Even if Dallas comes back and wins, you can no longer spout your bullshit about the WCF being the 'real' finals. Dallas played 4 teams in the postseason this year, and you came in third place, behind Miami and San Antonio. Phoenix can be considered on par with San Antonio, Detroit and Cleveland this past season. And yes, if Miami wins I will very much enjoy going back and looking up all the pro-Western talk you've been spouting.
I haven't had a chance to watch the games, is Wade playing as great as it seems from the stats?
Yes. If they win the series, his will be one of the all-time great finals performances. Last night was amazing. He and Dirk traded big plays at the end of regulation and overtime. The game was a bit marred by the final sequence, though. First, Gary Payton hit an absolutely sick layup, tossing the ball off the very top of the glass and straight into the basket. Then Dirk drove right, got double teamed, and hit a fadeaway jumper just over the outstretched arm of Shaq, putting Dallas up 1. Wade got the ball, did a bunch of fancy dribbling, and got bailed out with a questionable foul call. It wasn't clearly a bad call, but it wasn't clearly a good call either. Wade made the two pressure free throws (props to him), but even the excitement there was marred by Josh Howard's mistake, which is unfortunate because it probably didn't make a bit of difference anyway. Sadly, a huge amount of the post-game coverage was devoted to the timeout call instead of the good game and incredible clutch play by both stars.

Why boot the best team from the West?

But I think if the Heats MVP doesnt show up for the next 2 games Dallas is a lock for the championship. When I say the Heats MVP I mean the Refs.

The Mavs did not play well last night, and as much as Mark Cuban would like you to believe it, the refs are NOT the reason why Dallas lost. They simply didn't play well, and they blew too many opportunities that allowed the Heat to stay in the games.

Dirk Nowitski practically disappeared once there was actually someone defending him and playing defense. He's a phenomenal player, but he has a ways to go before he's having an impact the way someone like Tim Duncan can. The good news for Dallas is that the future is brigther than it's ever been. Beating San Antonio was an amazing step for them, and I'll say right now that they're the team to beat in the West next year.

isnt there some old addage where if the refs take a game from you, you didnt deserve to win in the first place?

Posted: June 21, 2006, 10:46 am
by Cartalas
Im not talking about game 6 as much as game 5 even though that foul on Dirk at the end was utter bullshit. When one player has more fouls then the whole team something is wrong. Oh well season is over and I can take a rest till football season. I bet Stern is smiling knowing he didnt have to hand that trophy to Cuban.

Dirk was never overrated until he played the Suns.

Hell, the Suns made Kwame Brown look good in a few games! :P

Edit: I'm probably unfairly poking fun at Winnow. I think what the Suns did this year was pretty amazing given their injury situations. I also think that if Amare hadn't gotten injured, the Suns would have likely walked away with the Championship this year.

Posted: June 21, 2006, 12:39 pm
by Winnow
The past two years, the Suns couldn't afford any injuries but last year Joe Johnson (faceplant vs Dallas in Semi Finals) and this year Raja Bell (calf muscle in semi finals) pretty much wrapped up the Suns's season even though both times they managed to advance to the WCF after those key injuries.

The Suns 6-7 man rotations need to be 8-9 man rotations to keep the players healthy and rested into the 4th. Too many times I've seen the Suns just blow the doors off teams in the first half only to slowly lose the lead.

Extending Diaw and Barbosa, Amare's return, if at least 80% of what he was, and picking up a decent PG in the draft should put the Suns at the top of the list, at least for the preseason expectations. I don't think that will surprise anyone. Of course, we could see some big trade in the NBA that could alter things.

Wade should be #1 on the short list for MVP candidates next year.

Scoring was not an Issue other players steped up to score but when your team gets 30 pts on free throws something or someone is biased.

Posted: June 21, 2006, 1:03 pm
by Kelgar
Getting to the free throw line a lot that means your team gets more of its points from the paint and tends to draw more contact. Terry/Nowitski vs Wade/Shaq is a no contest in terms of which duo attacks the basket more.

Posted: June 21, 2006, 1:29 pm

Did Nowitski even cross the three point line once in the fourth quarter? If you want fouls, don't you have to take it to the hole?

Oh well I guess its over done with, Time to move on. Time to look ahead to next season and rest assured Miami will not be there next year. As Noel said Dallas can improve, They are young and talented they will be back. Miami is a lot older they are real close to rebuilding. Miami has one thing going for them is that as long as D-Wade keeps getting treated like the 2nd comming of Jordan ( Which is a huge insult to Jordan), Stern will make sure his precious gets the calls.

Totally. Lets not kid ourselves. Shaq is on crack if he really thinks he's getting a fifth ring. He wouldn't have a fourth ring if it weren't for the fact that his backup, Mourning, kicked fucking ass. Shaq looked fantastic quite a few times during the ECF and Finals, but I don't think you could find a person on the planet that doesn't think he's on a slippery downhill slope.

Dallas will be great next year. Look for next year's final four in the West to be Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio, and some other team not named Denver ('Melo is by far the most overrated player in the NBA). Dallas is young and has nothing but upside. As much as I cannot stand Monobrow Cuban, he cares a great deal about his team and he's willing to do whatever he can to help them win. AJ will learn from this (there were some huge coaching mistakes made in last night's game) and he'll be better for it.

Finally, Wade is awesome, but if I were building a team from scratch, I'd take Lebron first before Wade every single time. Any comparisons between Jordan and Wade, Jordan and Kobe, or Jordan and Lebron are being made by people who either have shitty memories, or were too fucking young to see Jordan play.

Posted: June 21, 2006, 2:01 pm
by Kelshara
I don't think it is wrong to compare LeBron/Wade/Kobe to Jordan at all. But you have to compare them to where Jordan was at the same point in his career. You can't compare let's say LeBron now to Jordan at his best.
