depends on what Stevie you're comparing him to

When I think Stevie, I think Stevie Ray Vaughan. I don't see that comparison, but I could see Stevie Wonder

(no pun intended)
For my next contribution, let's go back...way back
Boogie Down Productions - My Philosophy
KRS-ONE - Sound of the Police
KRS-ONE & Marley Marl - Hip Hop Lives - The Bridge and The Boogie together

Seeing her live was great, two cellos and a drum kit, more sound than you'd imagine possible.

Good stuff rhyae.
Someone mentioned Fiona Apple in the YouTube Rasputina comments so I must post her Criminal video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTpvjNn2BUM
and Live version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgEu12FjeCo
Interesting in the live version, she seems to stay true to the original recording. Might not sound great but it's accurate!
I think Fast as You Can is her best song though:

I dig those Rasputina clips. As for Fiona Apple, well, I played the you know what out of her "Tidal" album - I rather dig her stuff, too.
Here's a classic from
Joan Armatrading - "I Love It When You Call Me Names"

I guess that's probably why they/he/whatever never took off. I had never seen a video of the lead singer guy before last night, and he looks like a douche. Still, it was a killer album.

Since HBO's been playing "The Departed" a lot lately I thought I'd post this:
Roger Waters - "Comfortably Numb". Imagine being able to summon Van Morrison and The Band to back you up. A very cool version of the Pink Floyd classic

I am throwing one out here for my favorite British band from the 80's - 90's.
Prefab Sprout was such an underpromoted band - but Paddy McAloon is a true songsmith that has influenced many songwriters since the late 70's.
Johnny Johnny - 1985
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLPyrLfOYuo
We Let the Stars Go - 1990
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVKUE_EzbIc
Cowboy Dreams - 2001
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWjL5tnk76c
Paddy McAloon in 2004 - great beard! He reminds me of John Lennon in this clip.

I've seen them a few times now, and was lucky enough to participate in a meet a greet and scored all their autographs.
Personally, im just a normal fan, but my mother has been crazy about these guys for some time.
They do make some great music though, and all 3 vocalists are astounding.

Classic Pretenders:
"Tatooed Love Boys"
"Message of Love"
A couple of my favorite all-time videos, too. It still pisses me off I didn't go see them when I had a chance back in the early 80's (the original lineup). Ah well ...

Hole - Celebrity Skin
Not a Courtney Love or Hole fan but I like this song after hearing it in the Rock Band video game. I searched for a live version but she appears to all crack-whored out in all of those.
the lines:
You better watch out
What you wish for
It better be worth it
So much to die for
made me think of Kurt Cobain.
I posted a 96mb mpg version of this same song. YouTube is great but grab this version for comparison. It's kind of painful to see how YouTube butchers the video and audio of songs. I know it's a necessary evil for bandwidth reasons.

Breeders - Cannonball
Spitting in a wishing well
Blown to hell... crash
I'm the last splash
I'll be you're whatever you want
The bong in this Reggae Song
One of those songs that gets me fired up every time. Would be a great song for Rock Band, especially the bass! That's two chick bands in a row (except the drummer) I think Avril Lavigne got her wardrobe ideas from the lead singer.

If it makes you feel better, one of Kim Deal's performances is featured in Rock Band:
Pixies - "Wave of Mutilation": of course, it sounds a bit different in game (link is from an acoustic performance at the Newport Folk Festival)
And if you're going to make a run on female rock bands, let me beat you to the punch on a couple:
The Runaways - "Schooldays" - all girl band from the 70s featuring Joan Jett and Lita Ford
Veruca Salt - "Shutterbug" - ok, so just the guitarists are girls, but they are darn good

Caught him at Stubb's twice and I think he sounded better live than on Youth (studio album)
