that last clip was a mashup of kanye and the disco version of beethoven's 5th. i don't remember who recorded or arranged it (sorry i'm drunk atm), but i had to play that fucking version quite a few times at various functions in jazz band in high school.

Anyways, for those of you curious enough (or those of you old enough), that disco version of beethoven's 5th was huge during it's day and very popular in the dance clubs.

Screw XM for getting this song stuck in my head:

Lil Wayne - I feel like dying (the video is just set to the music, not actually for the song)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edVj9AkPzCs

Lyrics below if interested:
[Show]
Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying... I feel like dying
Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying... I feel like dying
Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying... I feel like dying
(I feel like, I feel like, I feel like...)

Yeah, hello...
Get lifted...
Yeah, I get lifted
Yeah, yeah, so get lifted... yup! Haha...

I am sittin' on the clouds, I got smoke comin' from my seats
I can play basketball with the moon, I got the whole world at my feet
Playin' touch football, on marijuana street
Or, in a marijuana field, you are so beneathe my cleets
Get high, so high, that I... feel... like... flying
Down in a cigar, roll me up and smoke me 'cause...
(I feel like dying)

Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying... I feel like dying
Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying... I feel like dying
(I feel like, I feel like, I feel like...)

Swimming laps around a bottle of Louis the Thirteenth
Jumpin' off of a mountain into a sea of Codeine
I'm at the top of the top, but... still I climb
And if I should ever fall, the ground would then turn to wine
Pop, pop, I feel like flying, then I feel like frying, then...
(I feel like dying)

Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying... I feel like dying
Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying... I feel like dying
(I feel like, I feel like, I feel like...)

I can mingle with the stars, and throw a party on Mars
I am a prisoner, locked up behind Xanac bars
I have just boarded a plane, without a pilot
And violets are blue, roses are red
Daisies are yellow, the flowers are dead
Wish I can give you this feeling... I feel like buying
And if my dealer don't have no more, then...
(I feel like dying)

Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying... I feel like dying
Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying... I feel like dying

Sarah Brightman - First of May. Written by the Bee Gees (!) and only performed by Sarah so she obviously has no talent.

Sarah Fimm - Story of Us (Ignore the video!)

Sarah Harmer - Basement Apartment

Sarah McLachlan - I Will Remember You

Apparently I like a lot of artists named Sarah. Weird.

What this thread needs is some hot accordion music (no, really, seriously!).

C.J. Chenier owns. If you ever wanted proof an accordion can sound soulful here it is. I think he has a great voice as well.

Knorkator - "Buchstabe"

Okay, so it's about creating a new letter pronounced "Pthpbt" like the sound associated with the :P smiley! He replaces the letter B with Pthpbt throughout the song...I think I might have to try this at work tomorrow.

I don't like country, but recently I've been searching for country I can enjoy. I realized it's not country music that I dislike, but rather the mainstream, blindly patriotic monster that it has become. This song reminds me of why even though certain genres of music may be unappealing to you or me, there's always something there that deserves to be heard- if not appreciated.

Jimmie Dale Gilmore - Just A Wave Not The Water

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcM2pZ9Lusk

Lyrics (by Butch Hancock):
[Show]
Thirst is not the answer, oceans come and go
I loved her seven seas worth, Lord I loved her so
But she let me down so easy, one slow drop at a time

I would've killed myself but it made no sense:
Committing suicide in self defense
But I lost everything I brought her
When she said babe, you're just a wave, you're not the water

Centuries ago we were living on the gold coast
She was still in love with a long, gone, cold ghost
I was only trying to turn back the tide of her tears

I felt like an endless ocean, rolling through the fog
Full emotion drifting like a weather beaten log
I even thought that I out-thought her
Till she said babe, you're just a wave, you're not the water

I said someday we'll love again, then you'll know the score
I've taught you everything I know and maybe even more
That's true she said, more than you ever will

I've said I've been your raging river, precious African queen
I've shown you everything that I've ever seen
But she knew more than I had taught her
When she said babe, you're just a wave, you're not the water

Well I followed her far and wide with all of my will
Water on the move, you know it never stands still
And I moved every muscle, just to prove it can be done

Then up some old sad river, where snow white lilies float
I came to her for mercy, but I hardly rocked the boat
She seemed surprised that I have caught her
But she said babe, you're just a wave, you're not the water

She said babe, you're just a wave, you're not the water

My problem with a country album is it's one or two hits and a lot of filler. It's rare that I can make it through a whole album.
Luckily (?) country artists are covered up in Greatest Hits albums.

But the one I love to listen to all the way through is Marty Robbins Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs.
And the Urban Cowboy Soundtrack if that counts.

I've got to go with Brother in Arms as my favorite Dire Straights Album, made popular by the "Money for Nothing" song on MTV but the title song of the album is one of my all time favorite songs.

The last part of the lyrics from Brothers in Arms:
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
Bad video, but great song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5JkHBC5lDs

Mark Knopfler wrote it for his father who was a soldier in the Israeli army.

Brothers in Arms, more than most albums, requires a nice acoustic setup to fully enjoy. A YouTube video on PC speakers doesn't do it justice.

"Brothers in Arms" is a great song, as is "So Far Away", but I really never cared for songs like "Money for Nothing" and "Walk of Life" - perhaps I got sick of the constant 'heavy rotation' they got on MTV (note: intentional reference to microwave bit from the Money for Nothing video ;) ). In general, I run hot and cold with Dire Straights: I never like "Sultans of Swing", for example.

I love Making Movies, though. Well, I love 6 out of the 7 songs on it (I could take or leave "Les Boys"), which is why I put it tops on my own personal list. Here is the entire album:

"Tunnel of Love"
"Romeo and Juliet" (Nick's addition)
"Skateaway"
"Expresso Love"
"Hand in Hand"
"Solid Rock"
"Les Boys"

Note: I tend to run out of the norm with band favorites anyway. Some other oddball favorites:
Pear Jam: "Vs" (most prefer "Yield" or "Ten")
REM: "Monster" (most prefer "Automatic for the People")
The Police: " Zenyatta Mondatta" (most prefer, well, just about any other, heh)
Peter Gabriel: "Peter Gabriel 3: Melt" (most prefer "So" - I like that one a lot, too)

Here's a couple of random tracks:

Warren Zevon - "Searchin' for a Heart" - Great tune, performed on the Letterman show
X - "Johnny Hit and Run Pauline" - gotta love X
Gerry Rafferty - "Baker Street" - one of the coolest songs of all time
