That's ok, all men have been wrong on a few cunts in our lives
Thanks for the info. I also believe you Brits woulda given Germany hell if they ever would've landed on your beaches.

Ok, I left specific number out to keep my post size down. Since Xyun has asked, however, here they are.
BTW, I have to eat a little crow here. Handguns now narrowly beat out long guns as the weapon of choice, and the .38 caliber is beating the .22 as the preferred ammo.
All statistics are from the U.S. Department of Justice Statistics division.
1. "Victimizations involving a firearm represented 8% of the 6.3 million violent crimes of rape and sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated and simple assault.
The FBI's Crime in the United States estimated that 66% of the 15,517 murders in 2000 were committed with firearms. "
2. "Fewer than 1 in 10 offenders serving a sentence for selling or carrying illegal drugs and 1 in 30 inmates in prison for
a property crime — burglary, larceny, fraud, or destruction of property — had a firearm with them while committing their current offense"
So, murder is obviously the one crime committed overwhelmingly with a handgun. All other violent crime is committed 92% of the time without any sort of firearm being present.
3. "Less than 2% of inmates reported carrying a fully automatic or
military-style semiautomatic firearm"
4. "In the 1991 BJS Survey of State Inmates, about 8% of the inmates reported that they had owned a military-type weapon, such as an Uzi, AK-47, AR-15, or M-16. Less than 1% said that they carried such a weapon when they committed the incident for which they were incarcerated. A Virginia inmate survey conducted between November 1992 and
May 1993 found similar results: About 10% of the adult inmates reported
that they had ever possessed an assault rifle, but none had carried
it at the scene of a crime."
Assault weapons don't even make a blip on the chart of violent crime. Less than 2% of convicted criminals carried one, much less used them.
5. "In 1997 among State inmates possessing a gun, fewer than 2%
bought their firearm at a flea market or gun show, about 12% from a retail
store or pawnshop, and 80% from family, friends, a street buy, or an
illegal source."
So 80% of guns owned by criminals were obtained from an untraceable source. Explain to me again how gun registration lowers crime?
As I said before, as long as guns are manufactured, criminals will have guns. Considering that fact, I would much rather be armed myself.
Rikk,
Th reason those addresses are flagged is that a gun owner with even the most basic knowledge of using a gun is a very real, very immediate danger to even the most highly trianed personnel. Forget that movie bullshit. The reason criminals get owned "like little girls" is that we do our best to hit them at 4 AM with at least twice as many bodies as the worst estimate of their strength.
Your assertion that not as many murders would be committed without a gun is probably true to a degree. However, one-third of murders committed today don't involve any sort of firearm. makes the assertion that guns are the cause of murders a bit shaky, don't you think?
Xyun,
You don't have to use a gun to hunt. That is a personal choice. As for it being a sport, that's a tag I don't really care for. Hunting isn't a sport, it's a deeply personal connection with the natural world. You can't sell tickets for it.

Ok, last jingoistic semi-hijack from me before the weekend ;p
1) The German Army of WW2 would have needed 2 panzer divisions just to winkle my grandma and her mates out of their boltholes. Seriously.
2) No-one can be sure if/how we would have capitulated in the face of an invasion anyway. There was a pretty strong pro-Nazi political movement in the UK at the time (aristos with german roots etc). Hitler had us pencilled in as possible allies before it all kicked off, and we came closer to that position than most people realise.
I'd better sign off by saying I like the people of germany a lot these days and a great deal of the war-related ribbing is in jest. I respect the germans I've met personally for (1) their fine women (2) their love of beer and (3) their sense of humour (really!).
