Charitable donations

Post by miir »

Bill Gates specifically.

Approximately $2.4 BILLION for 1999.

$1 billion to the United Negro College Fund
$55 million to the United Way of King County
$750 million to the Global Fund for Childrens Vaccines
$20 million to MIT
$50 million for the Campaign to Eradicate Polio
$1.5 million divided equally among the American Red Cross International Response Fund and International Rescue Committee to aid Kosovo refugees.
$50 million over five years to Columbia University
$25 million to RFSU, Sweedish Association for Sex Education
$5 million for the United Way of Santa Clara County
$10 million over 5 years to the WHO

His charitable donations jumped to over 5 billion in 2000.

Mindblowing.

Yep, he's always been a pretty generous guy. Helps him get out of paying some taxes too, I'm sure.

I also heard a while back that in his will he only left 10% of his estate to his children - the rest was to be given to charity. Poor bastards will only get like 10billion dollars. :(

Wish I could leave my (future) kids 10 billion!

It's awsome though that he donates a good chunk to charities.

Well, if you are the richest man in the world, you CAN literally have more than you can possibly spend. Very generous yes, does he miss it, no. People can donate 100 dollars and miss it more than he misses 5 billion. I'm in no way arguing against his giving, just saying in his world, its not as big a deal.

I see what you're saying, but I really don't agree. $2.4 billion is a big deal for anyone. Gates could just as easily invest that money.

I agree. Kinda hard to downplay a couple billion dollars and change in donations...

I don't hate on Cartalas anymore. He's come up with some pretty witty zingers in recent memory.

There are times though, where I sit here and just wonder what it must be like be his boss and get a memo or a report from him. Good times. 8)

Yeah you are right. From now on everything I post will be fucking up to the minute even if it is topical, because I was put on this planet to entertain borderline illiterate assholes who have a sense of humor roughly equivalent to the GNP of Pluto.

Yes.

I dont have any hard numbers, but I saw a documentary about polio, and especially in west Africa it's still very much a problem.

gnp = gross national product

the gnp of pluto would be a figure that is roughly equal to the average cocksize of a female antelope
