Anyone remember *FF* Topics?
I miss that option....especially after the past week or so here. It was kinda nice to be able to speak seriously about a concern or topic that allowed everyone voice their opinion in a constuctive way. Yet, at the same time, the mods were permitted to give those who couldn't a "time out" (points at Winnow ) without being criticized themselves.
While I do enjoy getting all caught up in the drama that is this wonderful place, there are also times I'd like to see a thread not totally turn into a shitfest.

As much as I love the flame fests as well, I am curiously drawn to the music, movies and books threads, as they're less prone to people like Devereaux or Masekle showing up.Laliana wrote:While I do enjoy getting all caught up in the drama that is this wonderful place, there are also times I'd like to see a thread not totally turn into a shitfest.
Good call Laliana.

Actually the *FF* originated after 911 when we had a rash of idiots posting thoughtless jibberish.

If anyone wishes to continue using the *FF* notation, feel free. I'll do my best to keep those threads in line. If they start getting used, we'll have to make an addendum to the rules so that people will not flame on FF topics.

Ya.. they'll mostly only be used for normal conversation topics... probably mostly in the Current Events forum.
We obviously won't allow someone to post "VORONWE IS A DIRTY PEPSI DISTRIBUTION SALESMAN *FF*" as a topic. That would just be uncalled for!

While I was always against *FF* in the past, and will still never allow myself to create a *FF* thread...I do think lately it has been needed. Before, we would normally discuss a topic...and then it would slowly degenerate into flames once disagreements were made. Lately it's been rather retarded, considering all the flaming is not even distantly related to the topic of the thread. Cockjousting run rampant I guess.
I see viability in *FF* in the current events forum...I see it as a defense for trolls otherwise.

Bok suck ass. Also....
I have never created a FF thread but I have no problem with it if used honestly. And...
I don't recall 911 being the motivation for the FF idea. I also thought Winnow was a proponent of the idea, and then got slapped for breaking the rule lol.

Vetiria is right in her VV history. 9/11 there was a week or so long truce enforced while people recovered from the shock. From there stemmed the request that non flamey threads be allowed to exists peacefully with their more interesting bretheren, and *FF* was born.
As well the rules were using FF was to have a reasonable conversation, but trying to hide behind FF for any reason that I or the other Moderators feel is just that, you hiding like a coward, the FF is stripped, and the flames roll.
