I know some of the readers of VV are European so maybe you guys can help me.
We are reading Dubliner's in my English class and my teachers gave us the names of these two Irish Whiskey's: Bushmill's and Jameson's.
The question he posed to us is, which one is the one Protestant's drink, and which is the one's Catholic's drink.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

here's a little more, there doesn't seem to be much information on the history behind it:

This writer supposes it's because Bushmill's is made in northern island and Jameson's is made in the republic (south ireland/dublin). That's a good enough reason as any.

I don't really know all that much about it, but there are a lot of irish where I grew up and the catholic whiskey and protestant whiskey was a source of debate even where I was in Canada.Like most Irish dichotomies (North/South, Republican/Unionist, Catholic/Protestant), the divide separating the two great Irish whiskeys can incite violence. While there are intrinsic differences between the two brands, you only have to look at a map to get at the real root of the issue. Bushmills, product of the oldest licensed distillery in the world, is made in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Jameson, founded in Dublin's Bow Street in 1780, is now distilled in County Cork, deep in the Republic.
