EQOA

Post by Joramile »

Anyone plan on playing it?

If I can get some answers about the network adapter I might consider it.....

If the only line comming out of your DSL is USB, then yes, you'll need a hub at the least. That's what I'm doing... The PS2 Network Adapter has connections for RJ11 (phone line) and RJ45 (Network Adapter).

And that version of the game sucked hard IMO.

Or you can disconnect and reconnect your modem evertime you play EQOA. Thats what I used to do before I bought the router.

Jacked my friend's old Ethernet DSL modem. /rox0r it worked!

Well...it comes out Wednesday for me so I guess this may be a "return" to EQ so to speak.

Will it cost a premium per-month to play?

I plugged my network cable from my hub to my PS2 network adapter thing. It worked fine, it stored the connection information on my Memory card in Slot 1.

I also suggest a keyboard, any USB keyboard will work, I got the gameshark version for $20 or so....just to make sure because it said PS2 on the front.

And Shaerra, regarding your comment about monks, I actually liked that improvement.

Hey I played it for about 8 hours today. Went from 1 to 11 halfway to 12. Barbarian Rogue on whatever the hell that server is called (always wanna say veeshan :P).

The first 2 quests you do give you automatic levels and they are uber easy.

Just to clarify some things:

ANY USB keyboard will work. I stole an internet keyboard and it only uses the 102 keyset (no special E-mail buttons or anything).

You have to use Ethernet for DSL (no USB modems like mine, read above)

You don't have to sit down to med (drink water)
You don't have to sit to heal life (eat food)

Really I think its a slightly more simple than EQ for PC but I think EQoA has a lot of potential.

Oh yeah the real low blow, it takes 4 people and 5000 to create a guild, what a bitch eh? hehe, that's EXACTLY why I haven't done it yet.

EDIT: And the quests are actually worth doing! Awesome rewards for the newbie quests thus far!

The food and drink thing sounds like Diablo. Takes 5000 what to make a guild? Plat?

In EQOA they don't have plat, they use Tunars...and yes, only one coin, not 4 types.

What was weird was getting used to the new locations of the cities...Kaladin was near Halas and such...it's just one continent.

There are horses to move you from town to town, you just go to the stable in any new town and from then on you can just use the stable to move quickly between towns.

The con system is a colored circle around the target, you press L1 or R1 I forget to swirtch targets. At the bottom of the screen it has a blue happy face for amiable, white face for indifferent, and red angry face for KoS.

When you die you get a purple face on the bottom when you target yourself until your exp debt is gone, you can't delevel.

Items need to be repaired over time.

My level 4 quest gave a decent reward, my level 9 quest gave an awsome reward, my level 13 or so quest was broken in beta as a dorf cleric. Also some quests even at low level were handing out non-purchasable abilities. Granted the ones I got were just a slightly scaled up version of another spell line, but who knows what happens after level 17? I don't.

All items have required levels, so you can't twink high level armor or weapons. Also there are multiple types of cloth and such...

I thuoght the quest were much nicer but they did make it a tad easy to get to level 5....I mean you do 2 quests w/o leaving town or killing anything to get to level 3, and to get to level 4 you usually had to kill a common level 1 monster like 2x and bring back some item off it. And that would ding you again to 4. So basically kill 2 level 1 mobs and your level 4 and change.

All classes have "abilities" like rogues backstab goes the same place as a clerics heal would. Clerics healing was way different then the PC version in beta, it seemed everything was a HoT. I think you could have what 6 abilities mem'd?

The economy was much more balanced because of the non-twinking and use of cash to med or heal with food/drink and repair items....plus buying ability scrolls.

I felt like I was getting rewards non-stop for playing. Like if I didn't get an upgrade to one spell line, I got an upgrade to another, or I was abile to buy the next level of armor or weapon.

All in all I think that although I won't be playing that game (or any other mmorpg), they did learn some things from EQ-PC.
