Hell yes it is!

For people that get stuck with a PS4, eventually when you wise up and get an Xbone, you can connect it to your Xbox One.

So Far, Titanfall Is Getting Thumbs Up from Japan

Japan knows a good giant mecha when it sees one. And from the sound of it, the country's gamers are more than pleased with what they are seeing with Titanfall.

Today is the first public day of the Tokyo Game Show and the first time that Respawn Entertainment has shown its mecha-filled FPS Titanfall in Asia.

Japan is notoriously particular about mecha and mecha designs. There are years—no, decades—of manga, anime, and games with a long, proud history of innovative and amazing mecha and robot designs. There's a tradition here.

Respawn's Abbie Heppe told Kotaku that the studio wasn't exactly sure what kind of reaction to expect from Japanese gamers. "That's why we brought it here," Heppe said. "It was a let's see."

So far, the reaction from Japanese gamers has been overwhelmingly positive. Shortly after the show opened today at 10am, there was already a two hour plus wait.

The line at TGS has reached well over a three hour wait, and gamers who got hands-on with the title have been chatting up the title on Twitter, calling the game "fucking fun" or "cool," expressing their desire to play the game, or even saying they were going to buy an Xbox One because Titanfall was that good.

It shouldn't be surprising that Japanese gamers seem to be taking to Titanfall. The art style and the mecha design aren't Japanese per se; however, they are filled with clear, yet subtle Japanese influences.

According to Heppe, Joel Emslie, one of Titanfall's artists, has been influenced by Masamune Shirow, the famed manga artist best known for Ghost in the Shell.

Image

But, as mentioned above, there are more obvious Japanese nods—they're subtle and smart. One of the in-game weapons manufacturers, for example, is a Japanese company. What's more, the Titanfall map demoed at TGS, for example, has a few cherry blossom trees dotting the landscape, which not only pay homage to the Japan and Japanese art, but give the map touches of lovely color. These elements also help Titanfall feel different from other brown or drab FPS games.

"I got a really interesting interview question the other day from a Japanese journalist," said Heppe. The journalist apologized for being rude, but said that other Western-designed mecha are usually, ahem, "shitty," and wanted to know why the Western-designed mecha in Titanfall were so good.1

As Heppe noted, "I guess that's the greatest complement you could get—that Japan likes your mecha." And an even greater complement is that it's not just Japan.
...as Microsoft moves in to conquer the Japanese market!

Hmm Dead Rising at Launch, Titanfall shortly after

Gee, gaming for gamerz seems better on Xbox One compared to some crap Driving game (easily countered by Forza 5) PS4 has at launch. This gen Xbox had more total games both retail and online and sold more games per unit than PS3. Somehow PS4 is for gamerz as if they were before with their suck ass controller...but you go ahead and believe that marketing hype!

Going by this that's not in danger of happening. 32 random people and not one said XBO. Closest maybe was the one person who said either based on games.

Microsoft should probably focus on conquering the American market because even that's not guaranteed this time.

At least they have a game that appeals to the Japanese. Sony is still waiting on anything even remotely interesting to it's own country to launch their console. It's nice that Microsoft at least considers Japan even they have been a non factor in sales up to this point.

The Xbone doesn't even have a Japanese release date yet. They consider it a "Tier Two" territory. Their words, not mine.

The 360 dominated the states. We're the ones that bought a fuckton of games on the system. Worldwide sales are what eventually brought the PS3 in line with the 360. This is why it's a big deal that the Xbone was announced to such piss poor fanfare here in the states. If they lose their home turf, it will be a hole they won't dig out of.

A good run at E3 hype events only helps so much. Even that has faded greatly over the past few months as Microsoft has gobbled up the headlines, adapting to whatever the masses want while doing a good job of demonstrating the PS4 isn't anywhere near 50% better and probably worse in many areas. Of course Sony wants the US as only Europe matters other than high spending Americans. They played their hand as well as they possibly could but now Xbox One, which is more tailored for the US consumer, will win out over the course of this next generation.

Sony's "for gamerz" rally cry is complete bullshit/desperation. That will be easy enough to see as things play out.

Your post is dumb. Titanfall, which isn't made or published by MS, was shown and you say "at least they have a game that appeals to the Japanese".

And? Microsoft spent the $$ to make it exclusive. It's doubtful a company would make a game exclusive just for the hell of it.

You quoted it in one of your previous posts. Respawn said they needed Microsoft's super-duper cloud technology. I've never seen it mentioned anywhere that MS paid for exclusivity.

Therefore my point stands.

It is pretty obvious that MS is paying for exclusivity. It would be trivial to port it to PS4. However since MS' biggest 1st party title coming to Xbone is an HD port of the first Fable game (lol...), it makes sense they would throw money at actual good game developers to make games for them. Thank god it is coming out for PC so I won't have to wait for six months for MS's QA to approve patches.

At least Respawn is already owned by EA so we don't have to worry about MS buying them and almost instantly turning them into a shovelware developer like they did with Rare and Lionhead. It is like being owned by Microsoft instantly bankrupts you creatively and you wind up being some subsidiary that MS paid half a billion dollars for just so you can create shitty avatars.

This is a few weeks old.. Surprised Winnow didn't mention it!
A slip of the tongue by EA boss Frank Gibeau may have given away that Titanfall is only a timed exclusive, as rumours increase of a PS4 version.

On the face of it the big story here, in this interview with Frank Gibeau at CVG, is that EA intend to turn Titanfall and Star Wars: Battlefront into regular franchises, in what is implied to be a three-year cycle:

‘The shooter rotation we think about now is Battlefield, Titanfall and Battlefront, and so we like those three brands going forward,’ said Gibeau.

‘We’re working out how we’re going to line that up because that’s what you’ll see from us.’

Quite interesting, but there’s something that doesn’t quite make sense: if it’s Battlefield one year, then Titanfall, then Battlefront, how does that make sense if Titanfall is an Xbox and PC exclusive?

Either Gibeau has let slip the fact that Titanfall is only a timed exclusive or EA is planning to have one year in every three where they don’t release any major shooter at Christmas on the PlayStation 4.

And we don’t think you need us to tell you which of those two eventualities is the more likely.

It’s long been assumed that Titanfall is only a timed exclusive, but there’s never been much hard evidence to go on. Although the video below is interesting because if you pause it at the 2:34 mark you can clearly see a DualShock controller and a curiously blurred out console.

It’s not even part of the video but a still photograph, which means it was purposefully chosen. But if it was surely Game Informer and developer Respawn could have found an image that didn’t have something that needed blurring out? Was it actually meant as a secret hint?

The video was also posted just a few days after the PlayStation 4 console was unveiled, making it seem even more likely that that’s what was being blurred out.

It’s still just conjecture, but until there’s an alternative explanation for what Gibeau was talking about we find it very hard to believe that Titanfall won’t appear on PlayStation 4 at some point.

Of course it is only a timed exclusive. It is one of the most expensive games ever produced. It won't make any money on Xbone's tiny installed base. You can't even rely on fucking Winnow for a sale because he will just pirate it.

Microsoft demonstrates Halo 4 streaming from the cloud to Windows and Windows Phones

Microsoft is building its own cloud gaming service. Company officials demonstrated a prototype of the service during an internal company meeting today. Sources familiar with the meeting revealed to The Verge that Microsoft demonstrated Halo 4 running on a Windows Phone and PC, both streaming the game from the cloud. We're told that the concept service runs smoothly on both devices, and that Microsoft has managed to reduce the latency on a Lumia 520 to just 45ms.

We understand that Microsoft is building the service as a way to stream games to its Windows devices. Microsoft's demonstration included a Windows Phone with a Xbox controller attached through an accessory, and a low-end hybrid PC. Microsoft has not yet branded the cloud games service, and officials stressed it was simply prototype at this stage. It appears to be an answer to Sony's acquisition of Gaikai's streaming technology that the company plans to use for PS3 and PS4 game streaming sometime in 2014.

Hints at cloud backwards compatibility for Xbox One

Microsoft has been gradually building a cloud service for Xbox One games, but the company also hinted that it may be able to stream older games to provide backwards compatibility.

Good news for gamers. A company, with a network capable of supporting it, will be streaming games to a multitude of devices, along with possible backward compatibility via streaming.
Microsoft officially reveals Xbox One personal fitness app

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90vnJ_cNKf0

After fitness games proved to be a huge draw for Kinect on Xbox 360, Microsoft is taking the workout game into its own hands with Xbox One. For its next-gen console, the company plans to offer a service called Xbox Fitness, a built-in personal trainer that promises to detect micro-fluctuations in a user's heart rate, form, and more. It does all of this using the Xbox One's Kinect sensor, according to a page that briefly appeared publicly on Xbox.com.

Microsoft is recruiting top talent for its fitness program: Jillian Michaels of The Biggest Loser and Tony Horton of P90X fame are among the experts that will guide you through workouts and provide real-time feedback on progress. Xbox Live Gold subscribers will have unlimited access to Xbox Fitness from the launch of Xbox One through November 2014. After that, the service will convert to a premium, standalone subscription for all Xbox customers. Microsoft has yet to make any mention of Xbox Fitness, but with the cat now firmly out of the bag, we may be hearing more very soon.
More good news for future Xbox One owners. Kinect did a great job with fitness programs and Kinect II will be able to take this to the next level. Fat Ass Xbox One players will be able to work their way into fit and trim FPSer shape while PS4 fat asses will remain fat-asses along with adding severe hand trauma due to the horrible joystick placement of the PS4 controller.

You fat ass pork chops (Funk and others) should use this blessing to save your unhealthy blob bodies.

Here's a review of BF4 on the Xbone from a guy on NeoGAF named Timurse.
BF4 XBO
I played it on the business day of Igromir ("Game World" on English) in Moscow.
The resolution was definitely 720p, running mostly 60fps.
The game looks slightly better than Xbox 360 version of BF3 (I would say 50% better, no where near those videos of Paracel Storm gamescom build). Though textures are a lot better than on X360, some god rays, lots of foliage on the map.
It was a new build with Domination on Zavod 311. No vehicles. Though everything is unlocked.
For some strange reason player movement speed is VERY limited. It's like the sprint speed is somehow similar to the walking speed in BF3. I think it was this particular build fault. Cause on X360 the speed is ok.
The controller is SO SHITTY I couldn't even aim properly (and got 55 eagle in X360 version and 20th level in PS3 version). EDIT: added my small gamepads comparision.
The game ran on Xbox One debug kits. I saw one, it was black and I couldn't make any photo. There wasn't any local network mode, they used Windows server for the 26 machines.
The game supports kinect for voice commands, leaning with your head behind the corners and some other stuff. You can choose the language of voice commands.
Man, this guy sure did not like the Xbone controller.
The controller is very, very, very unergonomical compared to X360. It's smaller, the feeling is kind of like you are using a DualShock3.
The move distance of sticks is a little bit smaller, than the one in X360. I really thought about PS Vita sticks while playing.
Bumpers are totally connected to triggers. There isn't any piece of plastic (like in DS4) in-between trigger and bumper (clearly seen on video I edited in) so in 30-40% maybe you would miss the trigger and hit the bumper.
The vibration is a lot less than on X360.
The D-Pad is deepened into controller and it's really awkward. As in X360, DS3, DS4 it's slightly above the surface of controller. So while you try to press it on XBO gamepad moving your left thumb down from left stick you hit nothing, then you have to spend a second to find d-pad and actually press it. Really strange.
In order for you to not think that I am biased - I was the biggest basher of DS3 ever and also a huge fun of X360 gamepad :(
Holy shit, check out the lag!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxYVol5 ... 0cuyJCyBOA

I really hope they fix this stuff. It's pretty bad as it stands right now, and there isn't a whole lot of time until launch.

Good fucking christ this is bad news. That's the worst thing you can say about a controller.

And then there are other opinions
FINALLY got a hands on go on the PS4 and Xbox One unfortunately for some stupid reason PS4 only had octodad available to play so I couldn't really get any idea of the graphical power of it so I'm not going to begin to compare between the two power wise since Xbox was displaying Fifa and Forza, however I'd have to say in my opinion controller wise the Xbox is ahead, the DS4 is a huge improvement over the DS3 but still didn't feel as good as the X1 (which now has a D-Pad that actually works!!) the rumble in the triggers is also implemented really well, I thought it was going to be a shitty gimmick but it actually works really well especially in Forza, i liked the quick jump out into the xbox dashboard on the go aswell (it was disabled on the PS4 for the show)

One of Microsoft's Xbox marketing leaders Yusuf Mehdi has opened up on the advertising potential for the soon-to-be-released Xbox One console. Speaking during the recent Association of National Advertisers Masters of Marketing Conference, as reported by AdAge, Mehdi hinted at the possibility of making Xbox data available to advertisers.

"We are trying to bridge some of the world between online and offline," he said. "That's a little bit of a holy grail in terms of how you understand the consumer in that 360 degrees of their life."

"We have a pretty unique position at Microsoft because of what we do with digital, as well as more and more with television because of Xbox," he added. "It's early days, but we're starting to put that together in more of a unifying way, and hopefully at some point we can start to offer that to advertisers broadly."

Through its Kinect camera, the Xbox One will have a window into players' living rooms. This opens up a "huge new trove of data" about how people are interacting with TV ads, according to one marketer who spoke under the condition of anonymity.

"It could have a big impact on [advertising pricing]," he said, given the Xbox One's ability to determine if people are paying attention to advertisements or how their bodies respond to promotional material.
So how does it feel to have an always-on camera pointed into your house 24 hours a day so some corporation can mine data about your personal life and sell it to anyone with a chequebook large enough?

Responding to a request for comment from Eurogamer, a Microsoft representative linked to this forum post from Microsoft Director of Product Planning Albert Penello, regarding a previous marketing-focused interview. Penello assures that the company will not use the Kinect's player-tracking features to collect data for its previously outlined Natural User Interface Advertisements.

Penello continued: "First - nobody is working on that. We have a lot more interesting and pressing things to dedicate time towards. [...] I'm not aware of any active work in this space. Second - if something like that ever happened, you can be sure it wouldn't happen without the user having control over it. Period."
Sell paranoia somewhere else. Can't wait for the epic network fail when PS4 launches and ensuing brickfest from 10 hour updates at 1kb/sec download speeds with Sony eventually mailing everyone an update weeks later putting their company even deeper into dept.

NPD: Close to 50% More People Use the Xbox 360 than PS3 for Playing Online in the US
In the last 12 months, we delivered more than 20 billion hours of gaming and entertainment on Xbox, over 17% growth over the previous year. We’re proud and humbled to be the top online gaming service – according to NPD’s August 2013 Online Gaming report, close to 50% more online console gamers use the Xbox 360 for playing online than the PlayStation 3.
So, even when "forced" to pay for online gaming, 50% more choose Xbox over PS3. Curious how Sony now charging for online gaming will reduce this ratio. If anythign, some of the cheapskates that took advantage of free online game play on PSN might switch to the better XBL network.

Microsoft clearly has prepared for the Xbox One with their monster 300K server farm and have focused on online/cloud gaming features. There are less and less pure offline games while almost all games now include online game play, with some being exclusively online like Titanfall.

I hope Sony hasn't cut corners on their online servers/network.

Not even a troll this time. I even placed it in the Xbox thread. It should be a genuine concern for Sony. It's a really bad sign that SNE is tanking again today for no reason. If their stock can't go up now with all the "positive" mojo Sony has received recently, they better damn well have no issues with their network or things will get extremely ugly no matter how cute their commercials are with their poor exclusive launch lineup. Microsoft can't market for shit yet still beat them last gen in mega software sales and online.

a) It's only US. And honestly it's a useless metric.
b) PS3/360 are now last-gen. I don't think it's that much of a concern
c) SNE is a whole lot more than the PlayStation division. Not relevant.

a) by far the largest gaming market that spends the most on games.
b) what's changed except for that Sony now charges for online gaming?
c) With insurance having been their only profitable division, it's very relevant if Sony wants to actually turn their company around.

Even though Microsoft appears to still be committed to the idea of letting Xbox Live users identify each other by their real names, if they so choose, that feature won't be available when the Xbox One launches on November 22, a rep for the console confirmed to Kotaku.

That confirmation came after a demonstration of the Xbox One's new, refined friends app earlier this week only identified gamers by their Gamertags and not by their real names. That conformed to the status quo for Xbox Live on Xbox 360, but seemed to be missing the real-name options previously announced by Microsoft executives.

It seems that feature has been postponed
Oh no more promises MS isn't delivering on.. lol lol fail RRoD!

We knew that Microsoft was aggressively promoting its cloud-gaming services for the Xbox One. We knew that meant that games like Titanfall will benefit from everything from more on-screen computer-controlled characters and stabler connections because of it. Now comes news that those dedicated servers will be free to all developers.

"One of the benefits of publishing games on Xbox One," Microsoft director of Xbox product planning Albert Penello wrote yesterday on the NeoGAF gaming message board, "ALL game developers get Dedicated Servers, Cloud Processing, and 'storage' (for save games) free."

That's the kind of good news that should trickle down to gamers in some cool ways. After all, if those services are free, there's more reason for game creators to use them—so long as they have the resources to develop for them.

So, what's it mean for you?

Back in June, we reported that Xbox One launch game Forza 5 would use Microsoft's cloud servers to read and spread players' driving habits into other copies of the game, populating the playerbase's Xbox Ones with computer-controlled racers that drove like real players. Neat, but that's a Microsoft-developed and Microsoft-published game. Of course they'd get the chance to try tricks like that.

The potential impact of cloud computing and dedicated servers on Xbox One games became more clear when the creators of the EA-backed, Respawn-developed Titanfall began talking in June about the benefits they were getting from Microsoft's tech:
"That’s a 7 on 7 game but it felt huge because there’s [extra] AI [soldiers] in there that brings the world to life," Respawn boss Vince Zampella says, referring to the Titanfall bout I'd just seen.

The AI for the grunts is designed to run off of Microsoft's cloud servers, a service that the Xbox One maker is offering to all game creators on the new console. ...

With Zampella there, I sense I can get some answers on whether this cloud stuff is really just hype. I mention I'd seen plenty of games that don't use the cloud rendering tons of characters on screen, though maybe not in multiplayer. "It’s better to do it on the cloud," Zampella said. "It’s more secure. It’s a better experience. It also lets us focus on the experience we’re giving to you, the rendering experience, all that power. The more we can offload the better, because then we can do more locally on your box." In other words, if they calculate the grunt AI remotely, the Xbox One can spend more processing on graphics.

It's not just that.

The cloud servers, Zampalla said, are "dedicated servers so there’s no host advantage. The game spins up fast." No host system has to be bogged down with that grunt AI. "When that’s handled on the cloud, now it’s the same experience, it’s not lagging for you. If I’m the host, and I’m calculating AI on my box or if we’re both calculating AI on our boxes and we have different things..." That wouldn't be good. The cloud helps. To Titanfall's busy multiplayer design, perhaps it's essential.
In August, Microsoft said that Activision and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty Ghosts on Xbox One would also have dedicated servers. Dedicated servers would ensure that players didn't have to worry about player-hosted matches dropping because one gamer had a bad connection. They meant that Microsoft's reliable server tech would keep games running as players came and went, making it much more likely that games would be more stable for all players in a match.

While we knew the cloud was coming to all Xbox One games, if developers wanted it, it had seemed like this might be a service that had special perks for the most elite games. Penello's comments on NeoGAF, however, suggest that what's been offered to Call of Duty and Titanfall could be used at no charge by all game creators. That's a good thing, for sure, and it's consistent with Microsoft's sometimes-controversial vision for its console: a machine that lives best as an online-connected device, that is made, like our computers and phones, to take advantage of being networked.

The Xbox One may no longer be situated to mandate a regular connection to the Internet, but the kind of services the company is talking more and more about are likely to make Xbox One gamers want to keep their console online as much as they can—especially if the games they can play on it do great things with all of these options being offered at no extra charge to hard-working game creators.

Most of the information in this promotional Xbox One video is common knowledge, but a few interesting tidbits can still be gleaned. Albert Penello, lead planner for Xbox, reveals that using your profile on another Xbox One not only gives you access to your purchases, but also your own customized home screen and your game saves. "Basically, any Xbox One, anywhere in the world, is your Xbox," Penello says.

Ryse: Son of Rome and Dead Rising 3 are also specifically called out for their SmartGlass functionality. Ryse lets players customize their characters, set up multiplayer matches and comb through a bunch of other content while away from the console, while Dead Rising 3's integration is more literal – your real-life phone is treated as a phone, and Dead Rising 3 will dispatch mission calls with their own storylines and characters through SmartGlass.

Or buy one because it's $100 less, is better hardware, will have better games and does not spy on you and sell your personal metrics to Pepsi so they can sell you more Mt. Dew. You also have the stability of a company not polluted with corporate officers who change their minds every 30 seconds.

PS4 with 2 exclusive launch games (if lucky)....it's for gamerz! lol Sony fanbois are blinded by that stupid controller light.

Shame sony sucks ass with networks and looks like the SDK sucks ass again as well with Driveclub probably delayed and the Slavestation holding up everyone's fun with Watch Dogs. The thing is a train wreck. You get what you pay for. Cut rate crap with horrible support. The hardware will be falling apart, made by forced laborers that could give a shit about build quality.

Can't wait for the great indie games from Sony

Image

Don't expect the next GTA (most successful series ever) game to come from a PS4 indie developer. You can expect lots of colorful faggot (trying to get on kyou's good side since it seems to hate fags) lights that flow when you wave your faggot MOVE wand around in faggot looking motions. Hey Sony! I'm an Indie developer and want to make a game similar to the most successful game in history because people like to play those kind of games. DENIED!

Yeah. I'm sure Hotline Miami 2 will be all about hugging kittens and kissing puppy dogs...

PS4 Launch Game DriveClub Delayed, Sony Confirms
bummer! SNE down again in early trading. The only red stock on my watch list.

Meanwhile
Microsoft has confirmed it's extending the free Xbox 360 game programme Games with Gold indefinitely.

It was previously only confirmed that the promotion would run until the end of the year. There's still no news on whether or not it'll cross over onto Xbox One, though.
More positive news for Microsoft.

Yeah. More positive news. Doing something, and poorly at that, that PS+ has been doing for years now.

How are they doing it poorly? Is there an issue with the install or something wrong with Microsoft's incredibly reliable network while downloading the games?

Well let's see.. Here's what Gold got you in October: Halo 3 (2007!) and Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes. And what for discounts? Anything decent? I don't follow xbox news but maybe there was something. Seems to be a few listed here so that's a positive. A couple years ago when I had Gold they barely had any sales other than on DLC which was super lame.

Here's what your $4.20 (or less) got you over on Playstation:
Sony added Shadow of the Colossus, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Poker Night 2 to the PS Plus Instant Game Collection earlier this month. That leaves one more game in Sony's previously announced slate of free PS Plus games during October, the shoot-'em-up Sine Mora.

PS Plus members will also receive deeper discounts during Sony's Halloween-themed Sale of the Dead, which offers price cuts on all five episodes of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, a few Resident Evil games and more.
That's how Microsoft is doing it poorly. The only good thing is that you keep them even if you go to Silver status. However this program at the moment is only for 360. PS+ applies to Vita and will carry over onto PS4.

Shadow of Colosus: "released in North America and Japan in October 2005"

You also get a rock solid online multiplayer network with XBL Gold.

Kingdoms of Amalur I pointed out as an interesting title because I don't think many played it and it's probably a good one to try out since who knows if it will keep being sold due to the lawsuits, etc.

Halo 3: one of the best selling games of all time...free! #3 behind GTA V and CoD Black Ops.
