Weird... Dante's Shitpile sold more on the PS3?

Surprised that Heavy Rain sold so well.
Impressive numbers.

Here's my commentary on Feb NPD.

Console Sales

I'm surprised at the Xbox lead. It's the first time the 360 has lead the Wii since the 2007 launch of Halo 3.

I'm not surprised the DS sells a billion units a month.

PSP continues to peter out of existance.

Ps2 went from 40k units last month, to 100k this month. That thing refuses to die!

Game Sales

First off, nice placement by Heavy Rain. I didn't expect that to chart. I also didn't see Bioshock 2 doing as well as it did. Once again you will notice the attach rate discrepancy between the PSwii and 360. Bioshock 2 didn't even chart for the PS3, meaning it sold less than 219k compared to the 563k on the 360. That's a huge difference. I wouldn't expect a Mass Effect 1/2 port at any time with attach rates like that. However, the PS3 did pull in more numbers for Dante's Inferno, which I never would've believed, since that system is home to Kratos! DI sold well enough to assume a sequel will be in the works soon. This is only the second time that a major cross platform release outsold the 360 version. Both Dante's Inferno and Batman: AA both had nice PS3 exclusives and it has seemd to sway people towards the PS3 versions in both cases.

The March NPD should see Sony climbing up on top in games. They'll have GoW3 and FF13, both of which should make the top 10. I really don't see FF13 doing amazing numbers though. Of course, they'll all be contending with a new pokemon game too. I hope to see impressive numbers for BFBC2 next month as well.

AvP tanked and didn't even chart in Feb. Look for that in the cheapie bin soon.

The difference is that the 360 has 65% of their sales in NA.
Only 40% of Wii sales and 30% of PS3 sales are in NA.

This is why the 360 will always appear to be doing very on the NPD numbers.
This is also the reason why the 360 lags behind in the worldwide numbers.

LOL, you're fucking deluded.
The PSP is closing in on 60 million units sold... that's 20 million more than the 360.

How much bullshit can you spew in one post?

Just off the top of my head:

Bayonetta (even though the PS3 version was supposedly terrible)
FIFA 10
Batman: Arkham Asylum

By posing those impressive figures, PlayStation 3 now stands at over 33 million sold worldwide, that is almost half of what Nintendo has sold (67 million) and six million shy of Xbox 360 (at 39 million).

As of Feb 2010, PSP just crossed the 50 million mark, which is 10 million shy of your claim. (unless you know something I don't?) Besides, they could sell millions more PSPs and it's moot since no one buys games for them.

The PSP does not sell games. At all. There is a reason you will not find a single analyst that believes the PSP is doing well in any way, shape, or form. It's sweet spot in sales were in 2006. It has declined ever since, with attachment rates that make developers cry themsleves to sleep at night.

So..... yeah.

The PSP has been the number one seller in Japan the past couple (?) weeks. What needs to 'peter out' is the PSPGo. That should have never been introduced in the first place. Especially at the price point it was. I really hope it turns into a bigger embarrassment for Sony than it already is.

Now entirely UNscientific but if you multiply those by 4 (to get a months worth) and compare to the US numbers you can see that NA is the dominant market for consoles in general. Or it's probably because Americans don't know how to save so even during a recession they are out buying shit they don't need!

* PSP - 37,338 (150k)
* Wii - 36,241 (145k)
* PlayStation 3 - 27,763 (111k)
* Nintendo DSi LL - 24,605
* Nintendo DSi - 15,586
* Nintendo DS Lite - 5,029 (184k for all DS variants)
* Xbox 360 - 2,510 (10k)
* PlayStation 2 - 1,912 (8k)
* PSPgo - 1,296 (who cares!)
(And yes I am aware that the Japan population is only ~128 million. As I said.. Unscientific!)

I'm lol'ing at you not thinking FF13 is going to sell well. I was afraid I was going to get stabbed when I picked up my copy of it at Best Buy (I had it reserved) as there were several pissed off people there that wanted a copy of it and I guess it's sold out all over here.

This was PS3, btw. There were plenty of 360 copies of it.

Oh, I'm prepared to be wrong about that claim! It's just that some people are throwing out numbers like 3 million in it's first month, and I just don't see that happening at all. Maybe more like 1-1.5 million, which would still be a great success. I hope they don't fudge the numbers and combine Japanese sales though. I want to see how well this game is being accepted in the rest of the world. It will give me an idea of what direction jrpgs will be headed in the future. I like the genre, but I feel it's been dieing out or regulated to the handheld market this generation.

The number I read had the PSP at 54 million... which is still 16 million more than the 360.
Using your logic, the 360 must be a total failure.
The PSP does not sell games
Yea, 200 million PSP titles sold is pretty bad.
What a failure.

The 360 had a 12 month (and 7 million) advantage in sales... the PS3 is only 6 million behind now.
You'd have to be a fucking moron or a total xbox fanboy to think that the 360 is leading in any sales category... except for the sales that are a direct result of hardware failure.

So, PS3 for March is going to look abyssmal then for sales, since they aren't in stock anywhere since February? I was actually looking to buy one too...now, not so much. Did anyone figure out what happened to their production to cause that? or was it simply, economy is down, fire a shit ton of workers, pull one shift only at the plant, and deal with the shortages?

Nah, stores are getting the same quantity from sony, they just move so quick because everyone wants one now. Tax season and it's finally worth having for people who weren't already dedicated to playstation or who want it for the games instead of bluray. Ps3 is the new wii!

Based on what they've shown with the Move controller yeah I guess you're right.

And no I don't think the stores are getting the same quantity from Sony.

I just did my part padding Microsoft's Canadian numbers for March.

They're selling the 360 Arcade up there for 129$ this week. Best Buy is also throwing in the 60GB HDD starter pack for 70$ bringing in the total for the equivalent of a Pro system to 200$.
I already had a 20GB HDD lying around so with EB credit I had from some previous trade-ins, I got the arcade unit for 80$.

Pretty happy with the deal overall.

In the spirit of continuing the numbers jackoffery. It's APRIL NPD TIME!!!

The more interesting numbers of the month are software sales.

Software
01. God of War III (PS3) - 1,100,000
02. Pokemon SoulSilver (DS) - 1,020,000
03. Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) - 828,200
04. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Xbox 360) - 825,500
05. Pokemon HeartGold (DS) - 761,200
06. Final Fantasy XIII (Xbox 360) - 493,900
07. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) - 457,400
08. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (PS3) - 451,200
09. Wii Fit Plus (Wii) - 429,600
10. MLB 10: The Show (PS3) - 349,200
God of War 3 takes the crown, Sony had 4 titles in the top 10, Nintendo shows up with 4 and Microsoft shows up with 2. There are also only 7 original titles in the top 10 list with 2 multiplatform titles and 2 editions of pokemon.

Final Fantasy sold double the number on the PS3 than on the Xbox, Battlefield Bad Company 2 sold double the numbers on the Xbox than it did on the PS3.

The hardware numbers are pretty much more of the same. Ninty is running off with the crown while Microsoft and Sony are trading blows pretty evenly. Since WalMart and Toys R Us don't contribute their numbers to the NPD's, things are pretty much even.

Hardware
■Nintendo DS - 700,800
■Wii - 557,500
■Xbox 360 - 338,400
■PlayStation 3 - 313,900
■PSP - 119,900
■PlayStation 2 - 118,300

I was one of those PSP sales this month. I am feeling a bit of buyers remorse though, and am pondering returning it. I have already spent like 30 dollars on games/themes and shit though.

I bought it for my trip to Japan this summer, cause I was soooooo fucking bored on the plane ride last year and I need something to do if I can't sleep. I had a $35 reward zone cert when I bought it though, so it really wasn't that bad.

Touch screen on the ipad/touch kinda sucks for proper gaming.

It's fine for mini-games and timewasters but games that use onscreen virtual controls have too much screen real estate blocked by your thumbs/hands.

With the most anticipated PS3 title the 360 still sold more systems. Apparently FF13 either can't move PS3s or everyone who was wanting FF13 already had one.

And despite the PS3 selling not even twice as many copies of FF13 (360 only ~330k behind) I still find the 360 number surprising. Will it be enough to see more cross platform titles? Probably not.

Not to mention the fuckload of other functionality an iPad or Touch has. If you have room for something slightly smaller than a magazine, an iPad blows a PSP away for battery time and beautiful LED backlit screen for movies and other Apps beyond music and videos with super speedy processor. (eBooks, etc that can be self contained on the device without need for WiFi which, again, would then blow away the PSP for travel if available)

I have a touch, I love it... but not as a gaming device.

How the hell can you compare the $500+ ipad to the sub $200 PSP?

Ipad cant fit in your pocket.
Upscaled games on the ipad look like poo.
You can connect your PSP to other devices via USB.
You can connect your PSP to your TV.
The PSP has a media card slot.

If anything, I would say your statement was too focused. IMO, all portable gaming in general sucks for "proper" gaming. However, the gaming experience that the iPhone/iPad offers is fantastic.

I've played more engaging and fun games on my iPad and iPhone than I have on my DS. Plants vs Zombies on the iPad is awesome. Godfinger on iPad is amazing (and free). Civilization Revolution is great on the iPad and games can't much more involved than that, well, unless you count a free MMO like Pocket Legends which is also great. Then you have things like Geometry Wars, which while not having quite the percision of the Xbox version is still a damn good game. The innovation there is having the virtual controls appear wherever you place your fingers. Aurora Feint 3 uses both the touch screen and tilt functions with amazing results (another free game). Tap Tap Radiation is such a great rythm game for the iPad that, even though it was free, I paid 3 bucks for all the Lady GaGa tracks.

Final Fantasy 1 and 2 on the iPhone are better than the DS versions. Peggle on the iPhone is the best version of the game IMO.

The thing is, the device is just starting to come into it's own. The difference in quality and entertainment in the iPad games vs the iPhone games is an amazing leap forward and I only see it improving from here on out. Games that are made specifically for the device instead of ported over are going to be commonplace, and that is where the iPad truely shines as a gaming platform.

Walled Garden? 100K plus apps? I suppose if you don't have the tech nads to jailbreak (who cares if you shouldn't have to...you can. OS 4 is already jailbroken) Screw Flash. It's heyday is long gone. Don't believe me? Buy some Adobe (ADBE) stock!

I understand the whining about lack of ports, etc but portable devices aren't the same as full blown PCs. I recognize the difference. I'm all over PC when it comes to my powerhouse computing device and I'm planning on buying an EVO from Sprint without a service plan just to screw around with Android Apps, but nothing touches the iPhone, and for now, iPad. I'll also eventually buy an Android Slate and Windows Based Slate when decent ones finally hit the market....maybe not android slate if I go with the EVO.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/192286/s ... tures.html

New iPhone will be announced June 22. I'm betting it will match or better most of EVO's capabilities. Either way, I'll get both.

People get wrapped up in "blasting" the fart apps when there are still a bazillion great apps left over after you weed out 90+%, still more than other platforms....and growing faster than any other platform save Android which has its share of fart apps. Equivalent Android apps to iPhone apps are still a bit more clunky as well at the moment.

No doubt there's a few thousand useful apps but the signal to noise ratio is astro-fucking-nomical in the app store.
Even with the games... for every decent game, there are hundreds of shovelware minigames and thousands more garbage games that are free because nobody in their right mind would pay anything for.

90% garbage is a very, very generous estimate. My estimate would be closer to 97-98%
