Thanks for the heads-up on that data recovery app. I could have used something like that last year when my raptor array went tits up due to a faulty SATA (onboard) controller.

Reminds me that I should buy a couple external storage disks for shit I don't want to have to re-find and re-DL.

thanks i might try it. I "recovered" both 100GB files but one wasn't mountable (in truecrypt) and the other one wasn't recognized by Truecrypt. I'm guessing 100GB files are a huge burden on the recovery program. It took 4+ hours to recover each of them.

So the Windows 7 Beta worked flawlessly on my system... video setup: ATI 3870HD dvi -> Samsung 40" LN40A650

When the Release Candidate installs and reboots, the Samsung goes: Mode Not Supported.
Nothing currently fixes this... I can F8 at boot and get in with a lower resolution, but any attempt to go native fails. New drivers from ATI also don't fix it.

Borrowed an Nvidia 8800 from my bro and re-installed... it's working great so far :)

So, after going through a bunch of recovery apps, I was finally able to restore my lost partition almost to perfection. I can access one of the two 100GB truecrypt files but the other one wont accept the password so I'm pretty much screwed. Everything else in the partition is accessible.

The winning application that saved me: testdisk

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

This is a FREE old school dos looking interface, no frills app that gets the job done!

I'm presently using stellar phoenix to search though my recently wiped 750GB hard drives to try and find a complete file for the 100GB that I had semi recently transferred over to the new hard drive. If I can find it, it should be uncorrupted as all I did was quick format the hard drive it was on and havent placed any files on the drive yet. we shall see!

Does TestDisk restore bad sectors other than than boot sector?

Perhaps we should make a new thread consolidating all this data recovery info.
