Dead like Me

Good call. Cancel a show that was some of the best writing, directing and acting that I have seen in a long time. This show could have you laughing, crying and then laughing again in a span of five minutes. I really wish some other channel would pick this excellent series up.

Ack. I saw this thread and was blindsided by the news that it would be cancelled, I figured it was going to be news of it's renewal or something.

That sucks, I really liked DLM. :(

This sucks hardcore :( I was really looking forward to the next season.

On the plus side, even without this excellent show on their schedule, Showtime still has the best series TV of any of the premium channels, imo.

Latest rumor is that the WB may be picking up the series ><

The CNN article was in regards to a (then) rumor that Dead Like Me was about to be cancelled by Showtime. Showtime did indeed cancel the show, for now apparent good reason, and now there is word that WB is showing strong interest in picking up an obviously watered down version of the show for the WB network.

You tell me. If it goes from Showtime to The WB, episodes will be shorter (to fit into the typical, commercial laden 1 hour prime time spot), will have to play by broadcast TV rules for decency and will have to produce far more episodes per year (a network TV series would require double the number of episodes, which could, and probably would, affect the show's quality). That doesn't seem like an ideal scenario to get even edgier, now does it?

Someone does subscribe to HBO. I didn't say that HBO's programming was bad, just that I prefer Showtime's. HBO clearly has more original series, but it seems to me that Showtime makes up for quantity with quality.

Well, at least it'd give me something to watch on the WB aside from Charmed.

/bump

MGM released a direct to video DLM movie last week. I haven't watched it yet, but we're planning to this evening. Most of the main characters / actors are back for this movie, but Rube (Mandy Patinkin) is not. I've seen some bad reviews from fans of the series, so my expectations are low. Anyone seen it yet?

I thought the movie was well done, but gave about as much closure as the series did in my opinion, so possibly another one will come to follow? It is a lot like what you would expect of it, just 5 years after where it left off.
