Wow, where have I been? I didn't even know they were working on an expansion.
This will be released Tuesday, March 25th. It's adding 2 subfactions to each race, raising the total army count to 9, from the original 3. It will also contain a single player campaign following Kane and his evil army throughout much of C&C's history. On top of that, it will also have an open ended "Risk" style campaign, similar to what has been done in other RTS games like Battle for Middle Earth 2 and Dawn of War.
Other than the new factions, which have powerful trade-offs such as in Generals, there will also be a lot of new units, ranging from foot soldiers to new flying units.
This expansion also introduces epic units. I have to admit, they look pretty damn cool.

After stumbling upon this expansion, I realize I haven't really delved into an RTS game in awhile. I also found there are some expansions out that I have yet to buy. I may get all of these on Tuesday if I can find them.
Company of Heros: Opposing Fronts
Age of Empires 3: Asian Dynasty
Dawn of War: Soulstorm
Command and Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath
It's also looking like this year will be yet another great year for RTS fans. Red Alert 3 is in the making, and of course we have StarCraft 2 looming on the horizon. I cannot wait for SC2. Really, I think about it far too often considering a release date has not even been mentioned yet. It looks like they have all the unis done. They just need to balance and probably do teh single player. So, 2010 or so sounds about right.

If your system can handle it, I recommend checking out Supreme Commander and the expansion for it. Several people from my EQ2 guild generally play it online a few times a month (normally Wednesday and Sunday). Much more involved than any RTS I have ever played, and your system may feel it

company of heroes is the best RTS game out there. i went back and tried to play Dawn of War the other day and its just a fucking joke in comparison.
the expansion puts in Panzer Elite and the Brits which both play completely differently from the standard two factions. the patch they just released is pretty amazing too in terms of balance and it also enables Team Automatch which is awesome. Me and my buddy are currently top 10 on the Axis 2v2 ladder.
If you aren't into multiplayer, get it for the two new single player campaigns.

Would any of these be good for a Lan Party? What I am looking for is a game like Age of Empires: Conquerors where you have have like 8 people against each other or teamed up or 5+ against the computer at highest level of difficulty. AOE3 only allows for 4 players which is really kind of disappointing.

Dawn of War woud easily get my vote. They have 8 player maps and I think it would be sweet to do some themed maps, like good vs evil races, or 2 Guard, 1 Marine, 1 Sisters of Battle team vs 4 of an all alien force like Necrons, Dark Eldar, hell any of them would do. With the 3 expansions, the game has a grand total of 9 races. They are all very unique and a fucking blast to play. There is something for every type of RTS player in DoW. I'm playing the latest expansion now and I am floored at how great the 2 newest races are. Not only are they great as individual races, but they each create some complex synergy with any allies you might team up with.Bubba Grizz wrote:Would any of these be good for a Lan Party? You can pump up the effects with persistant bodies and destructable terrain too. An 8 player map is unreal carnage! I've seen a battle with hundreds of foot troops on screen, relic units, tanks, and chracters all in one stupid pile of explosions, fire, and death. As it was happening, I couldn't help but be in awe at the not only the scale of violence and war, but the sheer diversity of what was going during the fight.
Damn I love that game.
