I posted this in a WoW thread as a response to several people's false sense of righteousness.

It's an interesting article that applies to all games, and even things in life. I thought I would post it here for those that would never see it on page 2 of a month long WoW discussion.

Afterall, everyone knows a scrub, or has been talked down to by someone who thinks they know better, but in reality is so far behind the curve you can't even begin to explain the reality of a situation. A WoW example is people saying that Druids cannot tank or Pallies cannot heal. I mean, where do you begin to correct someone that is so wrong?

Anyway, I play to win. Do you?

I agree that a know-it-all is also a sense of perspective. For example, a teacher may appear as a jerk to a student who thinks he already knows everything. In reality, the teacher is just trying to instruct.

Often, when trying to share knowledge, a scrub will immediately take offense because they think they already know everything. The conversation goes downhill from there and usually ends up in flames.

Then there's the "I just know it all" that is condecending and an asshole. The above article seems to skirt that line a bit, but in the end gets his point across quite well.

Playing to win is a state of mind. You either get it or you don't IMO.

I often see that article linked by people who want to show the superiority of their approach.

There's nothing wrong with other approaches to playing. Until you expect to win by your own rules instead of the real ones. Which is the point. The point is NOT to prove one way of playing is intrinsically superior to another. If you link the following 3 parts of the series it says as much.
