Racers - PC or console?

Post by Leonaerd »

I wasn't able to take the family Playstation up to college with me, and I'm having intense cravings for some of my favorites, such as San Andreas and NFS: Most Wanted.

I've already been told by many people that San Andreas is worth purchasing on the PC, but what about a racing game? Is it as fun to play with a keyboard, opposed to a console controller? One thing I can imagine being a hindrance is the lack of pressure sensitive keys. On the other hand, my computer is fuckloads more powerful than a PS2, so the graphical leap would be expected.

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

I have played racing games on the PC and had fun with it. Although I bought a Saitek usb controller instead of trying to use the keyboard.

You can get USB playstation (ripoff) controllers for the PC... I picked mine up for a massive $15AU and it does a great job in NFS:Underground, even works as expected in analogue mode. Also works well in the PoP games and basically everything I've tried it with in default settings (changing defaults can be difficult/impossible however)

Once you get used to the keyboard though, people can race just as fast with that, my room mate kicks ass in Trackmania Nations with a keyboard (I think I'm a bit faster in NFS w/ the stick)

A lot of games tend to quietly give you assisstance where you would otherwise want pressure sensitivity/analogue control if you're using the keyboard. You might find some games are actually easier w/ the keyboard.
