If this really is a real quote from the guy, not only should he be removed from office.. But he should be prevented from running for ANY office EVER again.. I dont care if its a position in the fucking boyscouts. He should also be deported.. to anywhere but here.

This quote is an attempt to calm the black community. If you'd seen what's going on in the Lower 9th Ward you'd understand why they're pissed off and fearful that they're going to be pushed out so they can take the land and give it over to developers.

And you're talking about the community with the highest rate of black home ownership in the United States, but of course the parts that aren't owned by blacks aren't going to sell for the money they would if every second (or fifth, whatever) lot is owned and occupied by black people.

It is a quote from him. He tried to justify it by explaining that he meant chocolate like chocolate milk. It is black chocolate and white milk mixed together...I don't think he managed to insert the foot far enough into the mouth on that one. Either that or a shoe string got caught on his chin.

I am still completely and utterly confused... when talking to your ethnic base, referring to them by a term that is, by all accounts silly, but acceptable... why the fuck is this a bad thing. New Orleans WAS a chocolate, black, african american, negro, wtfever city, whoopdiefuckindoodoo, they also made up a large portion of the poor who are finding returning to new orleans to be most difficult. The "liberal" media jumped on a non story because of the way this guy spoke out... he didn't say "Im gonna get me a shotgun and shoot all the whities I see" he said "chocolate city", sounds like pride not predjudice

No, it doesnt sound like pride or prejudice; it sounds like ignorance. How would it sound if the city was all white and the mayor said he was rebuilding a "vanilla" NO? Yeah it may be a fact, and it may be what many of the people that live/lived there think/say but that doesn't mean its something a politician needs to be saying.

Stop me if I'm wrong, but wasn't his whole point that it's black and white coming together to rebuild the city? While I agree that he's an idiot and chose the absolutely worst analogy for it, but I remember him talking about taking like dark chocolate and white milk to make a milk chocolate. Once again, the guys a tool and I'm not defending him, just really.. am I wrong and I made that up?

If that's what he meant, he probably should have said that instead of making it sound exactly the opposite.

Like I said, he's definitely an idiot that can't string together a coherent thought, but he's only initially to blame. Media in general spiraled his comments out of control. Hell, when he first made the comments I had trouble actually finding a source that showed the whole speech and not just the chocolate city soundbite over and over. I had to get the full context from the freaking Colbert Report I think
