That's too much TV for you!'

Looks like a good one. Have you compared it to other TV's in its class?

I sell the new Bravia line from Sony, but the 40XBR1 hasnt hit my stores yet last I checked. Im eagerly anticipating the latest batch of LCD's from Sony and Samsung since these are the first to roll out of thier new joint plant. LCD is starting to get there, and the 1920x1080 resolution of that panel will be nice. Skip the 55" LCD rear pro and look at the new 50XBR1 and 60XBR1 SXRD rear projections, the 70" version is by far the prettiest looking picture Ive ever seen from a rear pro, including the old school Pioneer Elite's.

the sxrd line is insane...a 60 inch qualia will be out later this year too...but still i'm thinking 40 inches is plenty for me atm

Acutally, the took the 60" SXRD out of the Qualia line and made both the 50 and 60" SXRD's part of the XBR line. 5k and 6k retail.

Have you seen the 40" does it have the motion issues that are prevelant in the 1080p Sharp panels?... If so, buy a plasma... 42" Pioneer Elite plasmas should be dropping in price in November.

Sony just anounced a new SXRD front projector at 12.5k... should be close to the Qualia in quality. But you need the right room for a FP. Youll see a bunch more 1080p front projectors towards the end of the year.

How big is your room? You can buy nice automated ceiling mounted screens and also ceiling mount your projector. You only need 10 feet of space to get a 120" screen. There are projectors with lens shift so you don't even need to center your projector.

People that say they don't have room for a projector aren't really trying!

The difference in image quality between a 5K projector and 35K projector isn't worth the money IMO. I've seen the full range of offerings. Even if you're worth a few million or more, I don't see the value with the recent advances in midrange projector quality.

this 40 inch is for a bedroom...i'm not sure of the size, all i know it's definately not big enough for a projector set up hah, i have too much shit in here as it is

just want something super nice for my xbox 360 and ps3 when they come out; and i prefer to play my games in my bedroom as opposed to having them all set up in the living room on the projection set there

i'm also considering wall mounting it; and if i don't do that i'll just put it on top of a small bookshelf i have

I'll let you slide because it's for the bedroom! : )

I've got my old 40" Toshiba HD TV in my bedroom right now but when a reasonably priced 1920X1080 projector hits the market in about a year, my current projector will move to the bedroom.

All this talk about big screens has me salivating. My wife has said I can get one when I finish up the basement. What's a good tv in the $1000-$2000 range?

Bah Dew, if you are going to do it go all the way don't hold back. Look at it as the last TV you will ever need to buy.

In the 1-2k range, Winnow will suggest a front projector for a basement. Of course, it all depends on how you want to work the system. With a front projector, you will need a stereo or surround system, and then to avoid having 5 remote controls to work it, youll need some sort of integration system to make it wife friendly.....

Or, you could go the easy route and look at the slim rear projection market, which with a stand will be the same as any other TV. Personally in the slim rear pro market I like Mitsubishi and Sony... Check em both out when your ready to move forward and I can give you some advice on the individual models.

Grizz - It took me four years to talk my wife this far. I will take what I can get.

Ransure - I already have a pretty good stereo system with surround sound for my little 36" (or is it 32" I can never remember) TV. I will PM you when I get closer to finishing the basement.

sony kdfe42a10

it's a sweet new 42 inch LCD projection...if you can squeeze 2500 bucks out then you can get the 50 inch... KDFE50A10

if you buy it directly out of a sony style store they have 18 month no interest/no payment financing going on...or can do 24 months no interest with minimum payments...this offer ends December 31st i believe

DO NOT buy from the Sony Style website... just about every dealer that sells these sets can do any sony financing program you see there. Also, if you walk into a brick and morter shop and ask for a deal, you will most likely get it. Sonystyle only sells things at full retail price.

I have a question. I remember when plasma tv's first came out they had issue with going on after like 10 years of use. Is that still the case with the current generation of plasma tv's?

I have a client today that has had his plasma for 12 years... so no... thats all mythical bullshit... First and Second gen plasma panels were rated at about 30k hrs of halflife (noticable loss in brightness). At 5 hrs a day thats like 17 years... todays plasma's are over 60k hrs... and todays LCD's are 90k hrs... but you might loose a bulb before that.

Thanks Ransure, I wasn't sure if that was correct or not. I heard that years ago when plasma's first hit the market.
