Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition
I've played quite a few racing games lately and Midnight Club 3 ranks pretty high on the fun list.
Rockstar Games (same peeps behind the Grand Theft Auto series) know what makes a game fun. The cities are great looking. So far I've only raced/cruised around San Diego. The game teaches you what you need to know as you advance all caringly taught to you by a mexican chop shop hood guy.
The races are fun and suspend reality in that you can pretty much plow through anything and keep going but it slows you down. This allows you to have fun but not have to be anal about your driving.
The racing is fast paced like Burnout. The ability to upgrade and customize your cars is on the level of the game Juiced. There's shitloads of upgrades you can do to your cars from looks to performance. My Dodge S4 is riced out to the max! Hoochie mamas stare as I ride by although I could upgrade my rims a bit.
One of the first things I did was challenge some dude in a Luxury Car. Beat him three times and the Luxury Cruisers invite you into a tournament (Hummers, Lexus, etc type cars). I won a Crystler 300C that looks pretty good.
The races are wide open. There are steam flares that shoot way up in the sky so you can see them in the distance even over buildings to figure out where your next checkpoint is. They change colors to indicate final lap and finish line etc. It's well done. There are lots of short cuts you can find/take while racing. I bought some nitrous for the my new wheels which helps quite a bit.
There appear to be tons of cars/classes of cars to buy.
I'd describe the game as the best parts of Burnout and Juiced with the quality of graphics found in Project Gothem but flying through them at high speed and more colorful and alive with people and vehicles. Along with this, you get the attention to detail that only Rockstar takes the time to polish with very smooth/integrated tutorial/help from the mexican dude in the garage you frequent.
You'll feel special even in your budget first car when you get your first spoiler, flames and rims...sniff! It has a great soundtrack as well (focused on the type of music you'd expect but I heard some songs that are out on the radio right now playing in the game)
Bottom line: Rockstar knows how to make games that people will have fun with and play often.
This is a winner if you like racing games with lots of crap you can customize.

You can get exhaust systems, suspention, headers, tire types/thickness, neon lights, etc etc. You can even choose the color of the nitro flames that come out of your tailpipes. As you advance, more options are unlocked for your car(s). It's a wannabe ricer's dream come true.Rayquan wrote:how is car customizatoin in that game? u mentions vynal rims and spoilers, how about body kits and suspension,. etc?
Another nice thing is being able to choose "auto upgrade" for performance. I don't know shit about cars so this option works well for that part. The game takes the amount of money you have in the bank and suggests what you should upgrade with it. You can still do all the looks upgrades yourself like vynals, stickers, lights, paint jobs, etc. It's up to you on how much you want to screw around with your car.
The camera controls are well done so you can zoom in and out and spin around 360 to see all angles.
You must be using cheesy firefox or something. My margins are fine!miir wrote:fix margin plx...
I switched the way the URL displays though.
Rayquan, you can fucking Customize EVERYTHING in this game. Rims, height, suspension, hydraulics, wheel width, you name it. Its there.Rayquan wrote:how is car customizatoin in that game? u mentions vynal rims and spoilers, how about body kits and suspension,. etc?
I picked this up last night and I'm loving it. Online play is great too.
I'm Gamertag "Thornfist" now, and a buddy of mine and I started a "Club" (clan whatever) so shoot me a friend invite.

This game is great. San Diego is a blast to drive around. I just got done doing donuts on the baseball stadium infield.
Now that I have a little more money I took an ugly Lexus and made it totally customized. It's amazing what you can do. 100's of options. I changed my license plates to Arizona and customized them to "DAMQUIK"
Anyone buy a Hummer yet? I'm wondering how they handle. The Lexus with maxed performance upgrades is doing well in the races. I'm not sure how though as I lowered the body so it sits like 1 inch off the ground.
I didn't think I'd use the "bullet time" special ability but it's come in useful when I accidentally hit it. Nitro has saved me countless times...I usually save it for the final flare/flag stretch run.
Rockstar made these cities more detailed than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. They continue to improve on their already great games. I'm guessing the first offering from Rockstar on the X-Box 360 platform is going to drop some jaws.

All of these racing games have similarities. Midnight Club happens to be the best of it's kind.Zamtuk wrote:anyone else smell a nfs:underground 2 ripoff?
It's like saying Jade Empire is a rip off off KOTOR. It's similar, but better. I'll take the better. Some of this is just progress. Good gaming companies learn from previous efforts. Champions of Norrath is a rip of Diamblo/BG. So what. CoN is better.
And all FPSers are a rip off of Doom but it doesn't mean I'm not going to play the better game just because it's based on the same idea.
sure, its adding to the underground import tuner scene, i havent yet tried this game cuz NFSU2 kinda killed it for me, im bored of it.
Hummers? wtf is with that, why would u throw hummers into an underground racing scene game?
NFSU2 wasnt a racing a game, it was Pimp your Ride. There was no point to that game but making a tacky pos ricer. I hope the same isnt for MC3
Ive quite fallen for GT3/4, they have the cars i like without the bullshit hummers and escalades, and not diving into the praise of the hip hop scene and instead more of the racing and skill scene, nfsu takes no skill i can beat the first game on hard... easily, only dodging traffic at 150mph is hard.
So if i ever wanted to beat another "be the biggest pimp" racing game... i might rent it and beat it in 2 days. Id never play it online since i got nfsu1-2 on PC and id rather not buy a modem for ps2 (shakes fist at sony for a shitty origional ps2 design).
(Shakes fist at PD for not making GT4 online ps2 compatabile.. yet)
(EDIT) Dont even get me started on how pissed i am at Namco for making the shittiest, poorest escuse for a rippoff of the underground scene ive seen yet... what a horrible game, on top of that, it has horrrrrible moral values stuck into it... Id rather play Maximum Tune at 1.00 a race than put 50 down on SRS.

This game is not beatable in 2 days, under any circumstances, and I'd like to say that its more fun than NFSU2. I have been playing the hell out of this for 3 days and I'm 15% thru the game.Rayquan wrote:sure, its adding to the underground import tuner scene, i havent yet tried this game cuz NFSU2 kinda killed it for me, im bored of it.

I agree with that. If you're worn out on this kind of game, I wouldn't get it. It's the same stance I have on Brothers in Arms. If you haven't tired of or played a WW2 game, that's the one to get. If you've been playing those games for awhile, it's better but too similar to cause much excitment.Rayquan wrote:sure, its adding to the underground import tuner scene, i havent yet tried this game cuz NFSU2 kinda killed it for me, im bored of it.
Hummers are useful as this game isn't NFS, it's more arcadish in that you can plow through stuff so Hummers are like tanks. I was just wondering how they handle on turns. I'll play some more tomorrow and make enough to buy one and find out. Midnight Club 3 is pimpier than NFS though!
I bet if you got a bunch of gang members from LA and had them vote on which game they'd want to play while serving time in jail, Midnight Club 3 would beat out NFS2!

I still have not bought a vehicle other than the Neon I started with, and I am 15% through the game. I rely on those that I win from races. My main car right now is the Chrysler 300c DUB edition that I won from a series of races. I have done the 1st set of auto-upgrades to it, and I think that the only time I had any problems was against Phil on the Motorcycle just due to the vehicle weight in swinging through the alleys.
Bpog, if you sell that Dub 300c, I think you get like 60k or something crazy. I sold my 300c and never looked back.Boogahz wrote:I still have not bought a vehicle other than the Neon I started with, and I am 15% through the game. I rely on those that I win from races. Yeah, I sold that Crystler 300C and bought a Lexus and decked it out. Auto upgraded, the Lexus performs a little better than the Crystler 300C and transforming the ugly car into something decent looking had soem entertainment value to it as well. That's been my ride so far but eventually I was a little better acceleration.Boogahz wrote:I still have not bought a vehicle other than the Neon I started with, and I am 15% through the game. Some more thoughts on the game. The motorcycle dude is tough to beat 4 races but worth the rewards and unlocks.
After getting C class cars unlocked, I bought a Lotus. At first it didn't seem that good as the first race after getting it was in the rain. Rain sucks! It also took a few races before I could unlock level 1 performance upgrades. When looking at performance, you can't just look at the three bars. They are specific to the car. The numbers below the bars tell the full story.
I just took my pearlescent green Lotus to Atlanta and am looking for Voronwe's pimp wagon to race!
For those playing Midnight 3, here's a decent message board with thoughts on the game and info:

Just an update for you all. Rockstar is putting midnight club 3 dub edition on the greatest hits/platinum hits collection. Not only that, but they added a ton of new content to the game too. 20 more licensed vehicles and some other stuff. Just thought many of you would like to know.
I just hope this doesnt turn into a trend. I wouldnt like to buy a game twice.
