Constantine

Post by Sionistic »

I was worried about this movie. Movies with Keanu dont really work unless the role perfectly works for him. However I saw this tonight and all my fears were put to rest. The movie just rocks, acting is well done and very beleiveable, effects look REALLY nice, and the camera views really potrayed the movie in a great way.

What makes the movie funny is that rachel weize outacted Keanu :)

ps: dont leave at the credits

Saw it tonight as well - I haven't read the Hellblazer comics, but after just seeing the movie alone, I'd say it's definitely worth going out for. Good acting (Keanu wasn't spouting "but why?" every 5 minutes), good plot (I enjoy religion-related movies), great effects (nothing special anymore really)... and yes, stay after the credits~

I think i have to see it. Im a big Hellblazer fan (check the Z Cult Drinsic, i got it as adopt a torrent there), and i have had a VERY bad feeling about this movie. But i think i have to give it a shot.

People who leave before credits are done = bad movie etiquette.

Keanu couldnt act worth a shit, as usual...and it had a undefined and poorly built storyline, i expected much better

Heh, I felt exactly the opposite. I thought the acting was sort of redeeming for Keanu compared to the typical shit you see. At least we didn't see any "woah" or "but why?" this time around.

Agreed, the satan portrayal was the worst.

Everything else though.. was awesome. Loved it. Hated Gabe. Pompus bitch to the extreme. Balthazar was cool.. but I didn't get the catholic priest dude (the fat one).

Hell was sweet. Very sweet. Very interesting portrayal of it... I want the DVD so I can get a snapshot screen of the demons 'under' hell doing whatever it was they were doing.

At the end, after the credits, Constantine goes to the grave of his little sidekick. He places his lighter on the grave, says soemthing along the lines of "you did good kid", and starts to walk away. Before he's off screen, the ground rustles, and the kid shoots out of the grave - with his new set of wings and all. As Constantine watches, the kid shoots up skyward; Constantine smirks, and walks off.

overall not bad. the acting (at least keanu's) was sketchy imo, and the storyline got a little confusing, but I dont regret seeing it. Im sure it'll make more sense if I see it again.

and rachel weisz is hot.

Keanu is Keanu...he has good bone structure...his acting..well...it is acceptable I suppose.

Tilda Swinton played Gabriel...and yes, that is a female actor...and yes..she was supposed to be male gender in Constantine. If you look up some info about her you will see that she has played a male role in another movie as well.

She is going to be the White Witch in the much anticipated feature film The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

This the male role shot?

She was also the psycho leader of the runaway kids on the island in Leonardo DiCaprio's movie, The Beach.

the spoiler indicates that this movie was pure homoeroticism at best, and at worst gay porn.

the fact that they use the same color shading of matrix graphics in the marketing, pretty much tells you this thing has no merit of its own to stand on.

no i havent seen it.

It was ok.. not great though but ok. I was left with a bit of a "Matrixy" feeling afterwards, Keanu did a decent job but it didn't exactly require a lot. Rachel Weisz or whatever is not too bad looking, I actually liked Lucifer.. but I HATED Gabriel.

Yeah, i think its cool that he can keep his principles like that. Heres a part of an interview with him about the movie/money issue:
I've decided I don't want anything more to do with films at all. After all the stuff with "The League," there'd been some minor law suit with somebody claiming that I had gotten the idea from an American Hollywood screen writer and you can imagine how I felt about that. So, I felt, if I'm going to react I might as well over react. (audience laughs) So, I said, right, that's it, no more Hollywood films. And if they do make films of my work, then I want my name taken off them and I want all the money given to the artists. I thought, God, that sounds principled (audience laughs) and almost heroic! (audience laughs) Then I got a phone call from Karen Berger the next Monday, she's an editor at DC Comics, and she said, "Yeah, we're going to be sending you a huge amount of money before the end of the year because they're making this film if your Constantie character with Keanu Reeves." I said, "Right, OK. (audience laughs) Well, take my name off of it and distribute my money amongst the other artists. I felt, well, that was difficult, but I did it and I feel pretty good about meself. Then I saw David Gibbons who I had done "Watchmen" with and he was saying, "Oh Alan, guess what, they're making the 'Watchmen' film." And I said, with tears streaming down my face, "Take my name off of it David. (sniffles)" (audience laughs) "You have all the money." Then I got a check for the "V for Vendetta" film. It was just, this was within three days!

Neil Gaiman wrote for comic books? I read his "American Gods" this past summer and was very impressed.

Neil Gaiman did indeed "write for comics". He was part of the New British Wave that was set into motion with Alan Moore, Jamie Delano and others. Gaiman created 'Sandman', 'The Books of Magic' and collaborated with Dave McKean on a few one-shots ('Mr. Punch' and 'Black Orchid' among others).

He also wrote for several TV-series, including the original BBC production 'Neverwhere'. Most of his work is very good indeed, especially the comics. They suffer less from the Deus Ex Machina problem than his books. I'd suggest you give it a try.

Keanu wasn't bad, but this movie was just more Hollywood crap. The Constantine in comic books was NOT a fucking victim; he'd worked the angles in Hell and come out on top.

p.s. Rachel Weisz is hot.

Not really my kind of movie but I thought it was decent. The Hell effects were ok but did remind me a bit of Lord of the Rings when Frodo puts on the ring and goes into the shadow world or whatever the technical word is.

And Satan looked fine to me. Would have been lame to have him looking like a Balrog with flames coming out of his eyes.

I just watched the DVD and I thought it was decent. I wasn't sure what to expect since the reviews have been all over the map. It was a fun, typical summer film. It didn't really explain a whole bunch of the smaller details (priest, assistant, tatoos, the club, it's occupant's and owner, where and what some of his weapons did, ect) but the overall story was rather simple. Despite it's flaws, it was definately fun with some cool shit happening along the way, which is what I was hoping for when watching the DVD.

7.5 out of 10.

PS. I liked satan too.

Nah, that wouuld have been lame. Perhaps in Hell that's how he would look. But we never saw Satan in Hell. Just on Earth (from what I remember). So that could just have been the form he took here. People seeing a big flaming demon running around would sorta tip the balance of the whole faith and free will thing.

(Just a guess. No idea how or where the comic portrayed him.)

True of course Aslanna! I jest of course! :) No Balrogs.

He would prolly only show his true self in his own domain.

I recall him looking like Al Pacino in the other devil-movie with keanu reeves though! :D
