So, has anyone gone to those shows or to Cheetah's? And what are some other sights to see there? Neither one of us gamble, and we're always looking for new ways to entertain ourselves.

Vegas Vacation - Suggestions Needed
My wife and I are headed to Vegas in a few weeks. Her company is flying her out for a conference and I'm tagging along. We have, essentially, two days (2 days/3 nights) to take in the city. We're staying at the Luxor, and wanted to either catch the Blue Man Group or Cirque du Soliel (O or Ka). We're also thinking about going to Cheetah's for some 'adult' entertainment.
So, has anyone gone to those shows or to Cheetah's? And what are some other sights to see there? Neither one of us gamble, and we're always looking for new ways to entertain ourselves.

I think I went to Cheetah's. I went somewhere, at least once, and I feel like that's where we went. I didn't ask for or pay for the cab though, and I was bombed, so I am not sure.
I wasn't overly impressed, I've been to better clubs in Michigan.
I'd definitely recommend just walking through a lot of the casinos. Paris is kind of cool on the inside, Caesar's has that mall that changes from night to day and back, the Venetian is really cool, as is Belagio, etc.
I haven't been to a show in Vegas, but I've heard nothing but good things about Cirque. Make sure you stop into Quark's at the LVH just to sample a Warp Core so you know what all the fuss is about.

I hope you have a better experience at the Luxor than I did when I was in Vegas last year. I refuse to ever pay those people another dime, whether that is staying in their hotel or gambling in their casino. The staff was extremely rude, and we didn't get the room we had reserved 4 months ahead of time, the pit bosses in the Luxor were pretty shitty too. They don't like to give you comps unless you are betting way more than the minimum on the poker tables. Your wife however, if she is into Spa's will enjoy the spa at the Luxor. The staff at the Oasis Spa was really nice and very professional and they worked in a super clean environment. They weren't at all snotty, and the massage therapists there gave the best massages I have ever had and I frequent lots of day spas.
The Blue Man Group is a great show and you will definately be missing out on a memorable experience if you don't go see them, I laughed the whole show and the colors they incorporate into their show made it that much better. Cheetah's is nice, I took my fiance there for a few drinks and to check out the girls and what not and I don't think I have ever been into a club where the girls were hotter, plus the atmosphere is definately Vegas style and not too brothely. I think there was like a 2 drink minimum that you had to order when you went in, while I was there anyways, But we had fun. I just hope you have better luck at the Luxor than I did. I think this year for Vegas I will be at Caesar's or the Venetian.

I recently saw O and Zumanity, and I found Zumanity highly entertaining. I have to say that I was not terribly impressed with O, but everyone else seems to love it. Zumanity is also about $35 cheaper per person than O. Ka wasn't showing when I went (middle of January), so I can't say anything about it, although I'd love to see it.
Don't play nickel slots if you can avoid it. The quarter slots have lower overhead so they tend to pay out more. Hell, play dollar slots if you can. I was there for 5 days and I won $700 playing quarter and dollar slots. Best advice for slots, however, is to find one that you find entertaining and just have a good time.
I saw Blue Man Group two years ago and absolutely loved it. I would actually suggest seeing BMG over a Cirque du Soleil show if you've never seen them.
And of course, don't forget to check out all the free stuff, like the "volcano eruption" at Monte Carlo (only takes like 5 minutes, and it goes off something like every 15 minutes). Same with the fountain at Bellagio, it's about a 5 minutes show and goes off every 15 minutes between 7pm and...I dunno, sometime later.
I didn't go to the Las Vegas Hilton because it was out of the way, but everyone seems to dig on the whole Star Trek thing, so if you're into Star Trek, it'd probably be a good idea to check it out.
If you're into aquariums, the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is pretty cool, and costs $25 I think. It's not huge, but it's nice if you don't have access to a really good aquarium where you live (I live in San Antonio, so it's kind of hard to beat Sea World in that department).
Oh, and if you gamble, get a player's club card. The one for Luxor will also work at Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo, and maybe a few others. They are free and they will give you comps and even a little cash back if you earn enough points. It's not a huge benefit, but it costs nothing, so why not use it?
Oh, and if you're above the 5th floor of Luxor, I'm sorry for you....I absolutely HATE the "inclinator", their angled elevators.
Finally, if you're going to see any shows, book them as soon as possible, they tend to sell out well ahead of show day.

Make sure to see Cirque du Soleil. Haven't seen the Vegas shows, but I've seen 3 of their shows here in Houston (the last one less than a month ago -- omg the best!) and they will blow you away. Tickets for good seats are expensive but it is so worth it.

I'm not into Star Trek, but the free entertainment at the Bellagio and Monte Carlo sound great. We'll lay out some options this evening, but I really wish this trip was happening when it was warmer out. I was looking forward to lounging pool-side. Next time.

Seen all of that! Thess is worth a repeat visit as long as it's not during a FF and there's no elections going on : )Fash wrote:If I went to Vegas.. I'd be interested in seeing the Bellagio water fountains, any poker table, the 'star trek experience', and Thess.
Adult clubs in Vegas aren't that great. Don't expect anything special. If you're staying at the Luxor then you're right were the best attractions are. You can walk the strip (a lot of walking but worth it) and see the cool casino/hotels...Caesars, Bellagio, new Aladdin, Parisian, Venetian, etc.
I'd skip gambling and do some of that at a online casino when you get home from your trip. Vegas is a visual spectacle. I saw Jerry Seinfeld last time I was there but I think he's only there when Celine Dion isn't so that's probably not an option.

Oh, and if you get a chance, you should go up to the top of the Eifel Tower at the Paris. I think it's $8 per person. Makes for good pictures like this and this!

A. Bring comfortable walking shoes.
B. Bring cool clothing.
C. Bring a lot of single dollars.
You'll be walking everywhere or taking cabs/shuttles. Everyone wants/expects a tip. The water fountains at the Bellagio are cool, but will only take up 15-30 minutes of your time tops unless you're just relaxing outside by them. There's a restaraunt straight across from the fountains (across the street) that's really good. Dont' be puzzled when they bring a bucket of water to your table, it's for you to wash your hands with. Also definitely hit Paris as it's really cool. There's a pastry shop in there that serves stuff to make your teeth rot with a smile. Take a look inside the Bellagio if you get a chance. It smells nice and there's a really nifty glass arrangement thing on the ceiling. If you need a shuttle, Hannah's seems to be the central point for a lot of them to pickup/dropoff from/to.
Also, don't believe the crap about 'its a dry heat and not as hot'. Bullshit. It was hotter and more miserable there in May when I went than I can ever remember FL's "humid heat" being. A co-worker went a few weeks after me in late June early July and said it was even worse. It's hot. Period. It's a freakin' desert.

Couple suggestions:
Fremont Street:
If you head off-strip, the Fremont Street Experience downtown is pretty cool. It's like a light-show music walkway thing. Pretty cool. Plays every hour or so after dark I think (can find out for sure online - try Vegas.com). It's free - which is nice. And in the heart of old-school Vegas so it's a bit cheesier than the oh-so-pretty strip. I liked the older-style, was a nice change. It's a long walk off-strip so take a cab or get a map and wear good walking shoes.
Bellagio Buffet
Expensive, but delicious! Can get crowded though so if you eat there, go during a non-peak dining time.
Quarks
If you like to drink, get a warp core breach at LV Hilton's Quarks! So fantabulous. (Giant fishbowl drink with many straws, a VV favorite!)
There's way too much stuff to do in Vegas to list it - easiest just to check some websites and see what interests you.

I loved the O show by Cirque du Soleil. It's pretty much all of their same stunts, but in water. It was simply fantastic. I've heard that the Blue Man Group is a must see as well and is actually the number one tourist show in Vegas.
Bellagio has the best buffet with the Paris buffet in at a very close second (they are both pricey and we had to wait in a long line for the Bellagio's buffet)
The best casino by far that I've gambled in was the Monte Carlo. It's spacious, well-ventilated (from smokers), and the dealers were all extremely friendly and helpful.
Free things to see in Vegas that are great are:
- the show they put on on the Rio floor (all day on the hour I think??)
- the animals at the Mirage
- Fremont street
- the gardens at the Bellagio as well as the water show outside
That's all I can think of for now, hope it helps and have a great time!

Ok, I live in Vegas for the time being, and here are my suggestions:
For Cirque de Soleil, you can catch any of the shows and they will be good. Try the new one, Zumanity at New York, New York. It's pretty risque for one of their shows. O is possibly the best show they have ever done.
Blue Man Group is amazing, easily one of the best shows in town.
Do NOT go see X at the Alladin. You can get a better show for less money at damn near any strip club in town.
As for the strip clubs, I recommend Sapphire over Cheetah's. Better quality on the dancers, nicer building and less money for the cover charge.
The hottest strippers that I have seen in town are at Deja Vu's Little Darlin's. It's full nude, so no booze. The cover charge was reasonable and included all the non-alcoholic beverages you could drink.
Cheetah's is all right, but the covers vary drastically with the tourist population. If there's a big convention in town, the door charge can get over $50 per person.
Olympic Gardens offers entertainment for the men and the ladies. The bottom floor has female strippers and the top floor has male strippers. The club had some decent food as well.
If you are looking for other things to do here, you can go to the Hoover Dam by heading north on I-15 from the Strip, then going to US-93/95 South. 93 takes you over the dam, about 40 miles from the Strip.
For hiking, Red Rock Canyon is just West of town. Take Charleston Blvd to get there. I-15 North to Charleston, go West.
Lake Mead Recreation Area can be reached by either going to Hoover Dam, or by going to Lake Mead Blvd and cutting through town. I would recommend coming in from Lake Mead Blvd.
Let me know if you have any other interests.

Olympic Garden (OG) is a decent club and like the above poster said you can go upstairs if the wife wants a little beefcake.
Cheetahs was the place we would go for business entertainment. The girls were pretty cute, but some of the newer clubs have hotter girls.
Blue Man Group is really cool if you like music. Very trippy and great sound.
You can do a lot of stuff there for free, but for the love of god be careful on the Stratosphere. I watched and sold materials for that building and I know a lot of things about it that you do not want to know. To this day I have never been in it.
The Palms has a really cool club called Rain, and also has the Ghost Bar. Rio also has a nice Jazz Club at the top of the hotel, older mellower crowd then the palms.
The tram will be a godsend if you want to avoid taxis.
Oh and just remember the Bellgio cost 1.6 Billion and paid for itself in less then 2 years. The MGM has a 1 million a month electric bill and that should tell you what your chances are. Set a winning limit as well as a losing one. Tell yourself if you win 500-1000 whatever walk away!!!. Set the limits and stick to them and you will have a blast.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon
hard rock hotel & casino is a blast. it's expensive and off the strip, but it's the casino where all the "pretty people" hang out. right across the street is spearmint rhino, which is supposed to be a decent strip club from what i hear. the palms is probably "pretty people" hangout number 2, it's also off the strip.
i love the inclinators at luxor. instead of going straight up and down they go up at about a 45 degree angle, along the wall of the pyramid. so yeah, i guess if you're woozy or prone to motion sickness they could mess with you.
also, sirensa mentioned the old fremont street area. you'll have to take a cab or bus to get there, but this is where all the older "historical" (har har) casinos are, and it's also where the locals go when they want to have some fun. it's a lot more economical than the strip where you'll pay $5-6 for a bottle of bud light. downtown on fremont you can get something like 50 oz of beer in a plastic football for $15. there's also the cheesy light show archway thing, a movie theater, jillian's, etc.
seriously though, you could spend 2 to 3 days in vegas, never leave the main strip area, and still not see everything. i hope you have fun here. :)

I originally wasn't going to respond to this, because it would look like I'm trying to defend my place of business or something. But there are a few things in here that should probably be explained to everyone who ever goes to Vegas.
1. About Pit Bosses. A lot of casino pit bosses are underpaid, overworked folk who spend most of their day dealing with people who want everything for free because they lost $100. Many of them aren't friendly people. I'd say most of that is due to being in the business for too long. It's a very tough business that's burns you out hard on having to deal with people.
2. Comps.
First of all, poker is growing in popularity to stupid levels. And the staff that dealt with you in the poker room was probably relatively new, relatively untrained, and god knows what else. Casinos that have held 5 year experience requirements for decades, are cutting it down to a mere 3 months (or none) because poker is growing that fast. So you can imagine, you aren't really getting the cream of the crop when it comes to folks working in the poker room. Also (in order to make things fair) most casinos are adding comp points for poker play at a calculated rate that would be equivelent to slot play, which is to say, you aren't earning much, especially because you aren't gambling much.
You don't get comps for playing $200 one night.
Let me show you part of the formula that is pretty standard. If you were to play $50 a hand at blackjack, every hand for four hours (win or lose). You could have a free room for one night for 2 people. That's going to take a good bit of money. These places can't afford to give away everything for free like they could back in the 60's and 70's. The reason being? Most people that come to Vegas now don't gamble. And those that do find games that they can play for several hours with one or two hundred dollars. That's why you see people walking around for hours looking for a $5 blackjack game (or less) on the strip.
Nearly any strip casino isn't even going to rate you for comps on table games unless you are playing a minimum of $25 a hand. Why? Because the casino has to have incentive as well.
Anyways...I've rambled...and I didn't write this to try and convince you to come to the Luxor. I just thought i'd try and help educate some folks with gaming and how some of it works. (i've been considering writing something, sort of a a guide to gambling and casinos and how all that shit works, would anyone be interested in reading it?)

Truant is dead on with his comments.
The only comped room I've been is in an end room suite at the new Aladdin that covered the entire side of the hotel with floor to ceiling windows in a half oval that overlooked the Parisian and Bellagio Casino and fountains.
What it took to get the room was thousands of dollars played in the casino with high consistent bets. Fortunately, it wasn't me blowing all of that money as I flew up from Phoenix after my friends had been there awhile and established the room. The bottom line is that someone had to gamble lots of money to get it.
With 7 years racked up of Vegas and Reno living, I've seen enough to know that a casino is not where you want to spend your life working as a permanent career.
I know Truant doesn't plan on doing this forever. About now, this is probably his favorite song he hums at the tables:
Whenever I get the urge to go to Vegas, I'll drink a bottle of booze, buy a pack of cigarrettes and leave them burning around the house, put some coins in a tin bucket and shake it violently for an hour or two, put my mp3 collection of 100 most annoying ring tones on random play at high volume, spank the monkey and then take the money I planned for the trip, gambling, and other entertainment and spend it on some nice electronic gizmo. Win!

Remember to be nice to the people in Casinos. The overwhelming majority of the people that go to Vegas lose and people tend to get cranky when that happens even though it wasn't the fault of those working in the casino. Mix booze into the equation and it's even worse. You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way

Ha! This is an excellent description of the casino experience. I got dragged to Casino Arizona the other night after my boss's birthday party and it was really quite degrading (despite winning all night).Winnow wrote:Whenever I get the urge to go to Vegas, I'll drink a bottle of booze, buy a pack of cigarrettes and leave them burning around the house, put some coins in a tin bucket and shake it violently for an hour or two, put my mp3 collection of 100 most annoying ring tones on random play at high volume ...
The Boney King of Nowhere.
I got back yesterday morning from my trip, and aside from the food poisoning I got from eating out the last night, it was quite enjoyable. Our flight left about two hours late, putting us in our hotel at about midnight. A friend of ours who lives in Vegas picked us up and we 'rolled' out to wander the strip. We walked past Harrah's and Bellagio, and finally got back around 7am.
We awoke the next morning and visited the buffet at Mandalay Bay. It wasn't too bad, but I'm sure there are better. We caught up on some sleep during the afternoon, and then went out for dinner, drinks, and Zumanity. It was quite a spectacle, and now I know what those contortionists look like naked doing their acrobatics. They mixed in some funny skits, and lots of audience interaction as well. It made me wish I would have gone for the couch seats up front. Near the end of the show, they invited a few people on stage. The announcer/MC asks this woman where she was from, and what she did. She said she was from Ohio and after a long pause, said she was a high school principal. The place erupted.
I don't gamble, so after the show, we wandered. We never made it to the strip club, unfortunately. Next time. Everything would have been terrific if only I hadn't eaten overpriced chinease food Sunday night. I woke up 4 hours before my flight wrenching my guts out. Thank goodness I passed out on the plane.
Vegas was fun, but there's certainly no place like home. If I go back, I'll have to learn some card games. Slot machines suck ass.

Hey you can take a wife/girlfriend to a strip club and probably have just as much fun, if not more so, than you would with your buddies. And you'd probably get laid afterwards, an extra bonus in any scenario.Skogen wrote:Next time, go with your buddies and not with your wife...Vegas hosts some of the finest strip clubs on the planet!!
Actually, my wife and I had planning on going to one of the fine clothing optional establishments, but I fell ill Sunday night. It looks like I owe her a lapdance. We do have a few establishments here, but it just isn't the same. It'll have to do, since who knows when we'll make it out to Vegas again.Skogen wrote:Next time, go with your buddies and not with your wife...Vegas hosts some of the finest strip clubs on the planet!!
Just got back from Vegas and saw Mystere while I was there. We had front row seats which, after seeing the show, may not be that important as a lot of stuff happens at higher elevations than the show floor.Syenye wrote:i saw ka the last time i was in vegas... was much better than mystere imo. but then again the whole circus thing kind of freaks me out, and ininjas and fire.
I enjoyed Mystere. Amazing acrobatics. I don't know why they have to wear such funky costumes but I got over that. I could have sworn one of the bird women was giving me the eye!
Tip: Eat after the show, not before. We had just finished a 400.00 meal at the Capital Grill (Fashion Show Mall on the strip...best filet I've ever had...sorry meatless vegans!). I was stuffed with food goodness and vino. All of the bodies flying around that could miss a trick and do a faceplant at any moment doesn't sit well with a stomach full of food!

Capital Grill definately has one of the best filets I've ever had. I make it my thing to go to every top steakhouse I can wherever I'm at.
Some other places to check out if you get a chance.
Capital Grill - across the US
Morton's - across the US
Houston's - across the US
Ruth's Chris - across the US
The Forge - Miami (really only have one steak)
Daniel's Broiler - Seatle
Smith and Wollensky - across the US

My suggestion would be to save your money and get something else instead.Vegas Vacation - Suggestions Needed
Sure, the first one was a classic. The whole middle aged family man/Christie Brinkley scene was too funny. European Vacation was ok...some across the pond humor. Heck, even Christmas Vacation was funnier than Vegas Vacation.
Yeah...just go with Happy Gilmore instead.

If you want adult entertainment, skip the strip clubs, and just call an escort. Even if you don't want to cheat on your wife, I think watching her get licked by another chick would be pretty hot.

Make sure to get over to "old Vegas" the old/original "strip". The midnight space invaders thing they do is pretty cool on the Freemont street experience.
After spending several months there over the course of the last 3 years I really got to liking the old strip.
Sure as hell see some interesting things there, same applies over all of Vegas but IMO there was absoultely no better place in Vegas to get shitfaced and "people watch".
