One Nation

Post by Fash »

I'm talking about the phrase "One Nation, Under God, With Liberty and Justice for All" here, which was used twice today at the inauguration by the priests that went before and after the president.

Focusing on the "One Nation" part, I never really thought anything of it. We are one nation, great, yay, wtfever...

But, the way it was used today, the context of the preceding sentences and the tone of the voices, it seemed meant as "One Nation... and only One..."

I never thought about it like that before.

I think that the one nation under god thing is in referenc to the fact that we are all states. A state being a soverign thing. Even though it's no longer that way. Possibly these priests are trying to promote unity of some sort. Saying that possibly we should work together instead of being so distant and atagonistic of each other :(

ya, i think they meant that even though liberals suck hairy ball's they can still swallow their pride ( and the ball's) and we can all get along. "one nation" means unity b/c liberals are big meanies who use the airwaves to control our thought's and won't leave us compassionate conservative's alone.

i kid, i kid. but unity was the point i think

OMG Tinkin, it's three o'clock in the morning and you had a simple typo you fucking idiot. You're fucking dumb now and nobody will listen to you. You mispelled something and now your general ideas don't mean shit to myself and the rest of the super duper inteligent people that are far superior to making a minor mistake. Yeah, fuck off.

That rant would be more convincing if your sig quote wasn't misspelt as well..

They need to get rid of the "god" part and leave it neutral, i still dont understand why the hell we have it

I would go on a limb to say about 40% of americans are skeptical about the exsistance of a "god" that have power over humans everyday lives...its not "one nation, under no god" so by the same token it shouldnt be "one nation, under god"... the "god" part wasnt even added in most cases until the cold war when we inserted it everywhere to show how superior we were to those godless heathens in the east

I don't think it was meant exactly how I took it... but it was the world domination sense... one nation, instead of the 180+ there are now.

This inauguration speech had me saying "Wow"... "Whoa"... and "Oh my God" a few times each... Bush has huge nervis.

british newspaper headlines about the speech:

"Bush: Have I got nukes for you"
"His second-term mission: to end Tyranny on Earth"
"SMILES FOR THE FAMILY, A FIERY WARNING FOR THE WORLD"

Here's a question. Are there any states that have seperatist movements that would like out of the Union?

Conscious is the correct spelling however you are probably assuming that the word that I would want would be conscience which it is not.

You may be correct that technically it should be consciousness. The point of my sig was to draw some sort of paralellism between the cricket and broader thoughts (outside of the box sort of thing). I would like to apologize if my gramatically incorrect sig offends you, it was not my intention. I'm just not sure that I see the correlation between my sig and the ideas that I attempt to convey when I post. :?

I dont think Siji was slamming you for you misspelling a word, but rather slamming Bush and the whole sovereign thing.

The whole idea of pledge itself is absurd. It was made to increase sales on flags way back when our glorious country was formed, then sometime in the 50's we add the words "Under God", fearing that US was becoming too much like godless USSR. But anyways I could care less about "one nation", I'm more concerned about anyone labeling people who do not wish to say the pledge of ... sales as UN-American as saying a fucking pledge makes you anything.

Yep... not a new thing though... We were a revolutionary egotistical country from the start... but I was shocked to hear the 'mission' re-stated as emphatically and eloquently as it was written by the speechwriter.

You know, Hitler came to power due to an incredibly nationalistic surge in Germany. Eventual rise to things like the Aryan race being the best, eventual persecution of non-aryans... Food for thought.

And Hawaii has had one ever since joining the Union.
