Another brilliant comment by Bush

You can intellectualize my statement all you want, Toshira. That doesn't change the fact that there is definite credence to it. Voter turnout alone demonstrates the average citizen's apathy toward the political process.
I'm supposed to feel sorry for people because they're not willing or don't have time to do their own research because researching is HARD? Sorry I'm not biting. Even worse are the people that define research as 'reading the pamphlet my church passed out to me'.
No I'm sorry; the average American IS a large part of the problem.
The average politician has zero accountability to anyone but the special interest groups that fund their campaigns.

Intellectualize? You mean, apply intelligence to your statement? Is that a bad thing?
I always thought your statements were pretty solid and meant to be scrutinized. However, if you want to take the low road and apply this anti-intellegencia mentality to my comments in a cute attempt to write me off, go ahead. I thought you were better than that. You might as well start using cliches like "Toshira is out of touch with the American Mainstream".
The rest of your statements are tautological bullshit as well. "average citizen's apathy" - "Average American" - "Average politician has zero accountability". You do seem comfortable making blanket simplifications about non-existant, or at least vaguely defined, entities.
Finally, no one asked you to feel sorry for people. I was stating facts. Facts like: There is a huge sum of information out there for one to ingest, filter and transform. Reading the pamphlet your church handed out to you is research, sorry. Making decisions based soley on the information contained therein however, would be uninformed. If that's what you meant, I would agree with that.
Yes, forming informed opinions based upon the supported facts that one pulls from all of the information out there is very hard. It is time-consuming. But it is also very important to do. I was pointing out why, for many adults, it may seem like an overwhelming task. I did not say it was not worthwhile.

I'm tired of people using the "I'm a parent and I'm too busy" excuse for everything. Plenty of folks have kids, work, and still manage to keep abreast of current affairs. The problem is apathy and/or stupidity. And I wholeheartedly beleive the average American is stupid. Living in Houston, I've filled my days around idiots.

I have to agree with parts of both Tosh's and Noel's posts. That being said though personal experience teaches lessons, it's best if we learn from them.
Sadly, what I have learned is that most people, and I'm talking about White-collar Americans mind you, don't spend enough time to figure out the issues. They pick one thing and focus on it and make a decision which supported by many of their peers. Anything outside that decision, they don't have time for and don't want to hear. All the excuses arise from that.
They don't want to be different, they don't want to take a stand for something that everyone might not agree with, they are happy in their own little world not worrying about anyone outside their immediate peer group except in passing or when they are at Sunday service to get a new pamphlet reinforcing their decision with more misinformation. I work with these people everyday... I've seen the pamphlets, I get them in my email the amount of half-truths people cling too is amazing, especially when they are sitting in front of a PC which 90+ Mbps to the Internet and the ability to verify the beliefs... they are sheep, and they like being sheep. Ah, makes me want to pull out PF "Animals" and zone away...

I thought your post was correct. I'd have to check back, but I think I agreed with everything you said. What I don't agree with is the idea that the point I was making has no merit. Like it or not, we do live in a country that (at it's worst) is full of people who spend all their time in front of either a TV or a Console gaming system, and don't really care too much about world issues, and only pay tertiary attention to the political system. This certainly doesn't mean everyone.Toshira wrote:Intellectualize? You mean, apply intelligence to your statement? Is that a bad thing?

I am prone to making unsubstantiated blanket statements. It's somewhat of a bad habit, but I generally do it to provoke a reaction.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

I think there will always be a large portion of voters who walk in and pull their parties lever no matter who the candidate, what the issues, etc.noel wrote:Joke all you want it, but here in Southern California, I know people like that.Adex_Xeda wrote:*cough*

In a perfect world no one would do that and greater than 50% of elligible voters would give two shits enough to educate themselves and then turn out on election day and do their duty.

I would know. Because, I pay attention to my surroundings. But, I do not do that. Sorry to break your little heart. I know you thought you had me all figured out. Gosh, too bad.Teenybloke wrote:Well, you would know~I think there will always be a large portion of voters who walk in and pull their parties lever no matter who the candidate, what the issues, etc.

No seriously though, in this case, Midnyte is dead on.Teenybloke wrote:Well, you would know~I think there will always be a large portion of voters who walk in and pull their parties lever no matter who the candidate, what the issues, etc.
In fairness to the thread overall, I will freely admit that I am not educated on all issues that will be on the ballot on November 3rd. I've done what I think it reasonable research on the presidential candidates, reasonable research on my Congressional representatives, and I've done some research on the propositions affecting my state. I've not really (yet) looked at who is running for state assembly and/or senate.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
In know Midnyte is right in the quote I quoted him on. Do you see me disagree anywhere?
Tis a pity he simply cannot see how retardedly hypocritical about the whole thing he is.

WTF? Is that your brains way of attempting to state you aren't a moron?
Take a fucking look at your own point and learn from it.
Maybe then people on this board will stop treating you like the quadraplegic brain wrong of a demented man mental you are.

The more you type the dumber you look. Please stop, for your own sake.
Your little jab of "you would know", fell short. Just give it up and move on. Yes many other little brained members of the VV may find that funny and think it is dead on, but it isn't so leave it be. Haha, it was funny. Now lets continue on with the topic.
